Twin Cinema (which will be 3rd on your trek if you go chronologically from there) is one of my absolute favorite albums of all time, but Electric Version (which would be next) won't give you any reason to quit before you get there.

If you like the New Pornographers, check out the solo albums by Neko Case (early ones are listed as with Her Boyfriends, but it's all the same stuff). Middle Cyclone is probably closest to what you've heard, but I think you'll also enjoy Blacklisted and Fox Confessor Brings The Flood. Her first two albums were more countrified, so beware.

Listening to the new The xx album. It's pretty fantastic, I think it's a lot better than their debut LP (which was also very good). They really know what they're doing.

B&S is basically what made Twee known to the mainstream so go listen to some of the classics (Camera Obscure was also recommended and is basically a female fronted B&S)

Thank you! This is exactly like what I wanted. I was always scared to do a hardcore twee exploration just because it seems like there are so many bands to check out.

I am especially loving heavenly. I did not care for that The Field Mice song, but maybe they have done other stuff that makes them worth giving another shot.

It's been awhile since I've heard a new indie band that has gotten my attention, but lately I've been digging The Rogue Apostrophes. I'd recommend them to anyone who likes the early output of They Might Be Giants. They have the same kind of experimental, genre-hopping sensibility and dark yet goofy lyrics. Their first album is on Spotify and it's okay, but their second is much more polished and accessible.

New How to Dress Well is streaming over here. http://www.wired.com/underwire/2012/09/how-to-dress-well-total-loss-stream/

Just started listening to it, but I have really been waiting for this album for months. Tom Krell has an amazing voice for a skinny white boy.

Also, the new Wild Nothing is good. Lacks the punch Gemini had, but I like it better in it's own right. I was friends with the guys down at Virginia Tech (when they were Jack and the Whale) I still have that album floating around somewhere... any interest in some proto-Wild Nothing? (I was given it to spread freely by the band, so no risk)

"Fox Confessor" is probably the best album to come out of that whole collective, but I'm a pretty unashamed Neko Case fan. "Twin Cinema" is my favorite TNP album, but "Electric Version" and "Challengers" are also very good. "Mass Romantic", their first, has some amazing songs, but the album as a whole is weak in my eyes. (I'm often alone in that opinion.) If you want a little more of their power-pop sound, check out AC Newman's solo stuff, and if you like the weirder songs, check out Dan Bejar's band Destroyer.

I am in love with the new Menomena album, Moms. Anyone else? They've always been super-consistently good, even though I think it took a while to warm up to some of the songs on Mines. Also, I really thought they'd have lost a critical component when Brent left the group, but it's like the other two members have gone into overdrive. It's surprisingly aggressive and really cohesive.

Hi,

For any acoustic song lovers here's Daughter's 'Youth'. I feel kind of mixed about her EP, but this track is killer.

Generationals haven't been mentioned here before, but I absolutely love them. I feel like the poster who was looking for more twee sounding music might like 'em as well. Here's 'Ten-Twenty-Ten'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2-4PTjB7Do.

'When They Fight, They Fight' is really simple, but catchy.

If you're a fan of Rilo Kiley or generally like female-led poprock bands then check out Gold Motel. I heard they had some members from The Hush Sound, but I can't really be bothered to check. They're really easy to listen to pop. My favorites from them are:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WI2o9Tmo8M8

The Raveonettes recently released an album called 'Observator' and it's a pretty awesome piece. If you're into reverb heavy, dream like rock check them out. Here's 'She Owns The Streets',

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGBLKevkdUw

On topic of the new The xx album I really don't like it in comparison to their debut self titled. I think it's cool that they decided to emphasize more of the vocals and an almost soothing ambient vibe, but I personally think they simplified their music too much. Most of the people I've spoken to about the album feel the same way, but to each his own. I'm glad they're really cultivating their own style if anything.

Did you guys listen to Cat Power's last album "Sun"?

She now seems to be under antidepressant treatment, but i wouldn't say that she's radically changed. Most songs are more joyful and a bit more up-tempo than before, with more electronics thingies, which makes the LP more pop-ish, but i'm still not a fan. For reasons i don't fully understand, people around me seem to have a crush on "Ruin", but "3,6,9" is my favorite.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nl3Oo4-IQ4

On a completely different register, i like very much WhoMadeWho's latest album. It's in the exact same electro-pop vein as the previous one, similar to Hot Chip, New Order, the Presets etc.

Here's a video of "Running Man" and "The Sun":
