Pre-merger I was a hardcore fan of the music stations, but when they cut down a bunch of channels the programming also turned to poo poo.

I was an XM sub when the merger happened, so I was excited I would have a chance to listen to Howard without buying new gear. Then the playlists got smaller, DJs started yammering through all the channels, and the great "wow, this is a fun channel I can't get anywhere else" channels disappeared. The last few years of satellite radio have been very disappointing to me; in fact, I only re-subbed because Sirius Canada offered me 5 months for $20.

Also, I really miss the XM jingle. After several 12+ hour road trips, it became my comforting best friend on the road.

I still remember the first day with Sirius in my car, showing all the channels to my parents and tuning into Ocatane just in time for the female DJ on it to go into detail about preforming cunnilingus on other girls while having a 9-volt battery in her mouth.

Thanks Sirius, that wasn't awkward at all!

I'll hold on to my service because I love the music, but as soon as Howard is gone I'll get rid of Best of Sirius. I really want to get the paid version of Spotify, but really feel guilty paying for that as long as my Sirius account holds all the bells and whistles.

Has anyone noticed how terrible the Nick and Artie podcast has been lately? I'm not talking about Nick's political views or Artie's attitude towards women. The segments have been ending randomly; cut short. Like last night's file for the first hour is 17 minutes, and the third hour is only 10. They should be around 40 minutes. This has been happening a lot over the last few weeks.

I'm down to one subscription, a streaming Sirius account. No hardware at all; I stream to my Sonos in my home, and from my phone to my car or jambox when on the road.

Sirius XM spends a lot of money sending me free offers to get my old XM hardware hooked back up... despite the fact that when I called to cancel the service I told them that I had SOLD the car. Sigh.

I stream Pandora a lot, too. While I agree that the music channels went downhill rapidly after the merger, I still feel that I get my money's worth out of my one subscription.

How do you do the streaming from phone to car? Do you have wi-fi available everywhere you drive?

I don't know about last night's show, but I've noticed this since they started here and there. Mislabeled shows, missing segments, re-upping old mp3s. The mp3s used to be 128kbps, too.

It seems petty to complain since it's awesome that they offer an mp3 backlog of the show for free, but it is annoying.

My subscription is streaming-only also. I just use the Sirius app on my iPhone to stream over the phone's data connection -- wifi isn't required.

I don't think complaining that their archive being incomplete and nearly unusable for months counts as "petty" tbh :shobon:

I had two radios since my commute was 90 minutes one way and having the show was a lifesaver.

After the merger it went to poo poo. It seems to me that when Sirius one, they retained all the management which were mostly East Coast/NYC based and they programmed the channels that way. KISS was in heavy rotation on every rock channel as well as others. You'd have a good mix of songs going until the 3rd one when the DJ would talk to 90 seconds and then talk for another 20-30 seconds over a record until they hit the post (when the singing starts).

Hair Nation (don't you judge me) got really ater Sirius had to start paying royalties. They put the worst of some bands into heavy rotation so that they could pay less.

With the exception of a few channels, I have no idea why they need DJs at all. It's nice to listen to Deep Tracks and hear the history of the songs but I don't need a DJ to stop the music and tell me about their boyfriend or party or whatever. What is also annoying is when they remind you it's commercial free and then promote another channel. If I'm listening to Octane, I probably don't give a poo poo that Tom Petty is going to be a guest on some other channel.

In late 2009 I got laid off and since I wasn't commuting any more I cancelled, or tried to.

When my sub was up, I called, told them I didn't have a job and had to cancel. They gave me 6 free months so I just kept it. When the 6 months was over, I was still out of work and wanted to sell my radios and just be done with it.

I stayed on the phone for 45 minutes trying to cancel when I finally said this.:
ME: Look..I have not worked in 6 months, neither has my wife. I honestly don't know if I can pay my mortgage this month.
SIRIUS: Oh, I'm sorry. What if I gave you 6 months for $20
ME: Did you seriously just not hear me say that I can pay my mortgage? You think I'm going to buy anything else before that?
SIRIUS: ....

When I finally sold the radios I called back to get them removed from my name. That was an entire ordeal too. "Who did you sell it to? What is their contact info? We can call them and give them free months. Are you sure you don't know how it is??"

I just told them I put an ad on on Craigslist and met the guy in a Wal Mart parking lot.

Their customer service is harrible. I had a billing question/dispute and it also took me somewhere around 45-60 minutes to get it worked on, and that was after I got a live person on the phone. Sirius - as a company - deserves to die for how terrible they are.

I should also point out something I found funny. I'm in Canada so I don't know if our calls go to the same call center as the US ones. Their hold music barely audible and the recption was the same as if trying to find an FM signal while driving in an underground forest.

You would think they'd actually use a Sirius channel to stream the music.

Nope. But I've never come close to using enough data for it to be a problem, even with streaming Howard every morning for 30 minutes on my way to work. I probably use 1 - 1.5 GB per month on average, including all my other day to day usage. I'm on wifi at work and home, which helps, but as long as you aren't streaming Sirius 8 hours a day every day I don't see it being an issue. Most of the streaming audio apps are pretty conservative with their data usage.

I do have unlimited and so I am not at all careful with my usage. I stream the show every morning for an hour or so plus heavy usage otherwise and still only use about 2.5 gigs a month. I use my 3G the way most people do their wifi - even when I am home I use the 3G. Still only average about 2.5 a month.

Edit: Okay, I just double checked. My last stat reset was 5/14 - going on that right now I am averaging 2.7 gigs a month. So, close.

Holy poo poo every Ms. Howard TV needs to have a translator with her during the interview. After years of insufferable must-skip radio they finally struck gold. I hope they turn her "Baba booey" into a drop. Just a note for others who turn the radio off when they bring in MHTV, today's was fantastic.

The Goose interview was pretty great too. I know you guys like to rail on how the show is dead but I usually enjoy what few shows we get :shobon:

My car is a 2012, it comes with built in bluetooth, works beautifully. And yes, I mostly stream from 3G. I have unlimited bandwidth, but I may not for ever, so I've been watching it. When I'm in the hotel during the week, I try to use the hotel wifi instead. The wifi tends to be a little more stable then 3G, specially with the Pandora app. My average is down around 2.4 GB a month now.

Yes. After the judge threw out Zito's case the creator of the show contacted him for a meeting. They had lunch, made peace or whatever and the guy offered Chuck a role on the show. Wasn't all that interesting.

The Tony Siragusa interview was awesome though, he's terrible on the sideline during football games but he's a really likable guy.
