I think deadmau5 has done some pretty good stuff lately, specifically The Veldt. But I'll always keep a special place for him because of his his remix of Tiny Dancer by Marco Demark. It's what made me pay more attention to house in the first place.

Is anybody else sad about Calvin Harris just making completely cheesey music now? I loved I Created Disco and Ready For The Weekend had a bunch of great songs but you could hear the commercial pop starting to come through.

Deadmau5' new album is amazing. Joel has really outdone himself.

I've had Professional Griefers on repeat for about half an hour, haha. Cypress Hill fits on a Deadmau5 album surprisingly well, probably because Mau5' albums never take themselves too seriously.

If that came across as rambling, forgive me. I'm seriously spazzing over this.

I'm not entirely sure when Breakbot's new album will official be out for North America, but Edbanger record's youtube channel has uploaded (then removed, then reuploaded again??) all the songs on the album. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgR8BSl9a3jYGkFnW8x_9VoOC2mXMPTpt

Also Boys Noize has a video that previews all (besides bonus) songs on his new album Out Of The Black.

Listening to the new deadmau5 album now, and I don't feel an ounce of shame in saying that I love that. It's way better than I was expecting. :stare:

And that Cypress Hill track....what the gently caress? That totally came out of left field. It doesn't even sound like deadmau5. It sounds like RJD2 if RJD2 had gone on to make another album that was listenable instead of his last 2.

I actually usually enjoy Deadmau5, despite the hatred I've seen him get around these parts. He's a bit hit or miss with me, but he can make some songs that never leave my head.

I think Professional Griefers is great, but I do concede that this may be due to being sixteen when Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge came out.

That article is sort of interesting. He raises some good points (name your loving albums Joel) but I disagree that it's the same sort of music as Will.I.Am et al. It's way lower-effort. The instrumentals are probably what he'd be making regardless of his fame and fortune - Deadmau5 rarely puts in 100% of all of his considerable brain power & resources into something. Typically his records have one or two (occasionally more) tunes that you can tell have a lot more in them. That's when the magic happens & you get stuff like Strobe, Some Chords, Arguru, Bleed etc.

But even Deadmau5 is saying it's a compilation of stuff he's cooked up in the last year. It's really more like a mix-tape than a cohesive album. Is it lazy to release an album of tunes that you've already shown everyone and call it new?

Maybe he'll take some time off, one day & make something as cool as Get Scraped. He's definitely capable.

Nearly all of his music is banal and sterile, apart from a couple very early tracks (which incidentally haven't aged well at all).

In a technical sense, his music is great. His sounds, mixing and mastering are as tight as they come. Similar to Skrillex in that respect (amazing sound design).

That said, good sound design a good track does not make.

Edit: Example A of an amazing track with poor sound design and mixing / mastering, but still better than anything Deadmau5 has released in years.

Well, to be fair, most of what you post is garbage, so nobody is really surprised that you disagree.

It's a sad state of affairs when one of the most popular figures in dance music does not even care about it, or about its history. Like that guardian article said, deadmau5 ignores the social history of house and really everything that house music stands for. I mean, he more than just ignores it, he hates it. (edit: what an interesting (read: poor) rhetorical move I just made there lol, but #d*mnItsTrue #Deadmau5HatesHouse)

Example B "of an amazing track with poor sound design and mixing / mastering, but still better than anything Deadmau5 has released in years."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO4loowq93Y
(yes ofc you could say that Omar-S's mixing is a feature and not a flaw >;] )

I really think that deadmau5 discussion should in general be left to another thread - every time he comes up basically this happens.

To be honest, I'd much rather listen to this (tbh I love this track no lies) rather than read more about deadmau5 (this entire channel rules).

Hasn't his music always been poppy? Look at how successful his songs were on the UK charts.

What I find more upsetting is how he's been playing the same live set over and over. Look at all these similar track listings from 2012: http://www.1001tracklists.com/dj/calvinharris/index.html

Other DJ's are doing this too but there's really no excuse for this.

floating 26" off da ground. BURR!

This is my most anticipated album. Trash Talk's 119 is right behind it.

I love what Ethan and Alice did in II. They created this cohesive sound and it had a darkness and harshness to it that I hadn't heard before and haven't heard since.

But, III. Plague is awesome. But Wrath of God clearly demonstrates the hopelessness and despair that Alice talked about in these latest interviews. I think this will take what II had and push it to the limit.
