Does anyone here like Jared Mees and the Grown Children a indie band from Seatle area, I found them listening to Pandora, but really have not come across them in any local record stores. How is the rest of the albums?

For those who are fond of the scandinavian indie artists, Masquer is one band to keep an eye on. Their electro-pop is not unlike Darkness Falls' earlier this year, and definitely deserves a spot on the Sweden music shelf next to Peter, Bjorn and John, The Knife and many others. I don't know anybody really like Kay Kay and his Weathered Underground out right now. It's such a fantastic mix of styles. I'd check out Hey Momma and Ol' Rum Davies. Indie Music forever.

Ok, so I''ve been digging on some upbeat(ish) folksy songs lately, such as "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, or "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and Men. Anybody know of any songs that might be seen as similar to these two? Or even bands that produce similar music. Thanks!

Also try: The Dodos, Fleet Foxes, Mumford and Sons, Akron/Family, The Books, Port O'Brien, Dosh, Yeasayer's first album (only that one, though) and Iron and Wine's two latest albums. They all have pretty different but still folk-based sounds, so give them all a try and see what you like. Hmm, I've heard of most of these, but haven't listened to most of them for a long time. Didn't local natives just come out with another album?

Currently waiting for Metric to come onstage at the Orpheum and I have to say that the opening band, Half Moon Run, really impressed me. Their album apparently isn't available in the US beyond what they brought but if their set was any indication it's worth a listen if you can find a copy.

I Was A Teenage Satan Worshipper is getting ready to release a new album. I think the best way you could describe them is psychedelic synth rock. If you're a fan of Broken Social Scene then you might find them up your alley. Their songs are often pretty repetitive but they're fun to listen to if you don't take them too seriously  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwfYvYZwI5YSeapony released a new album and it's in the same vein as their previous work 'Go With Me'. I came across Noah Gundersen a couple of weeks ago and the dude is seriously talented. He just happens to be playing near me in October so I'm gonna go check it out. So I know I'm 3 years behind the times but can I say that I absolutely love the AV Club's Undercover series? Great mix of bands doing a great mix of covers every year, I've found a bunch of new bands I want to try out from this series. I wish they put out mp3s of all the tracks because I'd love to have them on my iPod. Pretty sure I can use some sort of Youtube ripping program if I have to though. The one bad thing is that before every video is a little Starbucks commercial but you can skip it right away so it's not a huge deal. The new Flying Lotus album is streaming on NPR now http://www.npr.org/2012/09/23/161299030/first-listen-flying-lotus-until-the-quiet-comes After 3 listens, I think it's fantastic. Much more relaxed than Cosmogramma, but it feels more cohesive as well. Great moods throughout, and Thundercat's bass work is terrific as always. I'll need to listen to it more, but this is probably in my top 5 of the year

Japandroids are playing an indie festival next year, but they said they’re not doing sideshows. I went to the festival twice (it’s St Jerome’s Laneway) to see The Hold Steady, and there’s usually a lack of rock acts. I really don’t know what to do; I need to see Japandroids but the other music is probably really bland or bloodless. Are any of these bands good or exciting? Alpine, Alt-J, Bat For Lashes, Chet Faker, Cloud Nothings, Divine Fits, El-P, Flume, Henry Wagons and The Unwelcome Company, High Highs, Holy Other, Japandroids, Jessie Ware, Julia Holter, Kings Of Convenience, The Men, Ms Mr, The Neighbourhood, Nicolas Jaar, Nite Jewel, Of Monsters And Men, Perfume Genius, Polica, Pond, Real Estate, The Rubens, Shlohmo, Snakadaktal, Twerps, Yeasayer I don’t know why but this is really upsetting me. I’ve had a very annoying week, and I knew Japandroids were coming, but I wanted them to do a sideshow and I don’t want to deal with Laneway crowds.

I see a couple bands/artists in that list that I like, but not sure if that'd make it worth it. Like Real Estate for example. I love their albums, but live, something's missing. Reminds me that I'd probably really like to see Jessie Ware at some point.

If you like Japandroids, you're gonna love Cloud Nothings. loving loud, great sound. Same goes for The Men, but I'd put them a little under both. Yeasayer is a great show if you're into that 80's Boy George, ABC sort of sound. Nite Jewel, Nicolas Jaar, Jessie Ware are sort-of in that fun dance pile. Perfume Genius is very emotional, powerful, and raw. Bat for Lashes is inbetween the latter two categories I mentioned. e: So Cloud Nothings and The Men if you're just sticking to that punk sound. But those others mentioned make good shows too.

The album of the year so far is the last Menzingers album, with the Smith Street Band, Mountain Goats, Murder By Death and Japandroids coming a close second. The new Mountain Goats album is streaming and it's fantastic, but Murder By Death might beat it. Titus Andronicus will probably beat them all. I'm worried about Laneway because I'm such a rockist I sometimes get panic attacks when I hear non-rock music. The first year was good, but one year I literally came at the end of the day for The Hold Steady's set. Another year I saw Bellrays and the spent 4 hours bored. Henry Wagons is good if you like humor in your alt-country, and I'll check out Cloud Nothings. Edit: I've listened to the Cloud Nothings and while there are a few good songs I live in the same city as Royal Headache and Straight Arrows, so my garage-rock bar is set a bit higher. It's kind of a weirdly structured album, actually. The majority of the first half is vocal tracks and the majority of the second half is instrumental tracks, almost like they wanted to create one album of melancholy indie-pop stuff and one album of atmospheric instrumental stuff and decided to smash them together after recording both. But I love both of those facets of the band (I'm actually surprised at how much the songs with vocals are grabbing me given that Tick of the Clock and Accelerator were the only ones I really loved on Night Drive), so I'm not about to complain.

As for this year, it's pretty much between Attack on Memory and Bear In Heaven's I Love You, It's Cool. The Menzingers no doubt put out one of my favorites this year, but I much prefer their sound from their first two albums. Cloud Nothings manages to grab me through their entirety, and Bear in Heaven ridiculously improved from their last, which I didn't really think was possible.
