The new Pseudogod is a beast of an album, although I think Wrathprayer are still edging it for me on the bestial black/death side of things this year, with Revenge hot on their heels. Speaking of the ugliest black/death around, has anyone heard the 2nd track off the new Teitanblood MCD? One of them is Purging Tongues but there is another new track too. Just wondering if it was particularly good or not because it'll probably cost an excess of £10 to get it here in the UK, and for 2 tracks, one of which I've had since Dec/Jan, it doesn't seem like such a great deal.

Yeah, I think the themes of L'Ordure are largely concerned with mocking enlightenment inspired liberalism, hence the line "I'm a fist in the rear end of the Marianne" in the first track and so on (on that note Famine's said in various places that the rooster is the coq gaulois http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallic_rooster, the symbol of France as a nation). As for the scatological content, I guess Famine just really likes poop jokes. In any case it's a great album in spite of its, shall we say, political eccentricities, but it's definitely a grower. It took me quite a few listen-throughs before it hooked me, but it's on regular rotation right now.

Looks like the Crepusculo Negro label has shut down. I really hope some of the Black Twilight Circle projects can find other ways to release their stuff - Volahn may be rear end in a top hat but he also released some of the greatest black metal of the last few years, probably some of the greatest American black metal ever, and I'd be sorry if this was the end of the road for projects like Dolorvotre, Kallathon, and Axeman. I guess the ultimate act of LLN-worship is falling the gently caress apart.

I don't think anyone has linked this band here yet, its pretty great, very atmospheric and avant garde. http://verdant-realm-botanist.bandcamp.com/album/iii-doom-in-bloom-allies This is the new album that released a few months ago, it has a lot of unusual experimentation. You guys should check this out if you're looking for something new and fresh. It sort of reminds me of Caïna.

Black Twilight Circle is Los Angeles-based group of no-fi black metal projects with their own cassette label, started in like 2008, and apparently dead as of Friday. All the bands were made up of the same five or six guys. The music (as well as the general vibe) was pretty strongly influenced by LLN (as well as Mesoamerican nationalist rhetoric,  , and, uh, "kaos"). As always is the case when it comes to über-kvlt bullshit, they were a little hit-or-miss, but put out some really rad and kind of unusual underground bm, occasionally branching out into death and folksier stuff. I hear they really tore poo poo up live, too. There are other (and in my opinion better) bands on the periphery of the Black Twilight Circle also: Tukaaria Odz Manouk In any case I can't say I'm too upset about the label portion of BTC shutting down, by all accounts they were a really unreliable distro. However I would be bummed if this means there won't be any more output from the bands; I quite like Volahn, Dolorvotre, and Glossolalia.

Even as far as underground bm goes BTC/Rhinocervs remained pretty well below the radar - mostly because of their insistence on cassettes first and foremost. I actually found out about their existence not in the context of black metal so much as in the context of tape enthusiasts.

Huh, I thought Glossolalia was a Black Twilight Circle band, shows what I know. And yeah, the best thing to happen to CN/Rhinocervs bands is when other people rerelease the albums they put out on vinyl; their first cassette presses are basically unlistenable (even for as lo-fi as the projects are supposed to be). I am listening to Night Spirit pretty regularly at the moment, and really enjoying the hyper ambient black metal. Anyone got any recs for stuff like this? This is a long-shot, it would be a terrible idea for me to take the relevant Friday/Monday off this early in the semester and I shouldn't even be thinking about this, but is anyone in the upstate NY area going to make the drive to the Winter is Coming fest? If so and you think it would be worth your time to swing by Binghamton for one more person to split gas/hotel costs with, you should help me talk myself into being hideously irresponsible. It's been almost a full year since the last time I saw Agalloch and that's obviously too long. Mostly unrelated, I've been on a major Cobalt kick the past couple weeks and it's been most of a year since I had the time to follow new releases; anything recent I should check out along those lines? I would also accept a new Necromantia clone but last time I went looking the Greek scene had been kind of quiet.

Any opinions on the new Behexen Record, Nightside Emanations? I found the second half kind of boring, but there are definitely some good riffs in the second half. I probably preferred the previous record though, going on first impressions. For those unfamiliar, Behexen write fairly traditional black metal, here are the first 2 tracks from the album and if you have Spotify the whole thing is streaming there.

Touche I more meant an orchestra. Black metal's pretty much classical music sped way the gently caress up and distorted on a guitar. I'm saying why not just speed up classical music as fast as possible but keep it all in an orchestra. No loving banjos or saxophones. Do what Wagner did only grimmer and faster.
