Please excuse the awful awful video quality, I couldn't find anything better. Here is Genkai Ice Coffee. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xsy1qt_genkai-ice-coffee_fun This is my first go at timing, it's also the first time I've converted video files, used editing software and uploaded video to the internet. Yup, I'm an old woman who never used technology before. I would really appreciate some feedback on how I can do this better. I worry about everything, is the font OK, can you read those colours, do the subs go by too fast, did I gently caress up the subs when I compressed the video etc etc.

Matsumoto's subtitles in particular are really fuzzy in both the default player size and in full screen, maybe a compression issue. Also it's a little disorienting to have Hamada in green, everything else I've seen seems to give him blue as a standard colour. Yamasaki is almost always the green one. I guess the waitress gets blue onscreen subs at the end though. Are you translating or using someone else's? There are times where Hamada and Matsumoto are talking in the picture-in-picture and aren't translated, which is weird. But if that's out of your hands, no worries

A friend recommended me "Legal High." It's basically Dr. House if he were a lawyer, or Phoenix Wright if he were an rear end in a top hat. It's pretty good overall, but it's worth watching just for the last episode. It's without a doubt the best ending to a series that I've ever seen in anything.

I thought Legal High was great. It's arranged like a regular pointless fluff drama, but it has some moments of really strong acting and so much viewer trolling. The head corporate lawyer guy is one of my favorite Japanese actors.

Also Legal High is cheesy as hell and the two leads are insufferable as characters, but it's decent popcorn TV. It'll be good to have something to watch that's not terrible, but that I'm unlikely to get too invested in. e: Would be way better if the calligraphic mathematician chef butler were the main character. Started watching Legal High thanks to this thread. It is fantastic. The lead male actor is just great. It's cheesy (as most dramas I've seen) but I'd strongly recommend it. The episodic nature makes it an easy and fun watch, the drama never gets very serious, and the court cases are still handled quite well.

One of the best and weirdest Japanese shows ever is Hey! Spring of Trivia. Clips from this show are hard to find online because they get taken down right away by Fuji TV, but there are some good ones up right now so watch them while you can. They'll probably be gone in a month. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVIRxYP2iMg Four esteemed bodyguards are pitted against national elementary school dodgeball champions. Someone posted a link to Gakifiles in the PYF gif thread and I've just finished watching all the batsu games. Is there a recommended way to view the videos on Gakifiles? The batsu games were out of order but thanks to the wiki I was able to watch those in order. There is a lot of content to sift through and no telling on most of the videos what order to watch them in. Tanaka getting out by the DVDs is one of my favorite things. Also, him being scared of everything is great.

Lincoln - Black Mayonnaise Teacher was pretty good. The photos are really funny. http://crazyontv.com/lincoln-black-mayonnaise-teacher/ I recently finished all the batsu videos as well just been wandering around Gaki/Crazyontv watching random stuff. I wish there were more Oogiri Daigassen videos around as well as Kiki Mayonnaise and Yakiniku No Tare links that don't get taken down. I really don't like to complain about the sub work and stuff since it's free, but sometimes the subs are hard to read, especially when they make Matsumoto's really dark. I prefer when it's more of the neon red(?) since it's much easier to read. I thought it was a problem with my monitor since it's old, but it's not much better on my HDTV. Offending videos off the top of my head are: Absolutely Tasty Chuwanmushi (but they're all a bit hard to read in this one) Absolutely Tasty Gohan (Mixed Rice) 2 Friendly Downtown with Yoiko (love it regardless) Kiki Milk

I know it's a bit of a chore but I'd suggest downloading Aegisub and just changing the format yourself. Once you figure out the basics it's nothing to find a sub you like and simply copy the code for the colors and whatnot. I've done this to many files because while I can sit and read them find in my chair, if I lie down in bed to watch some certain things because a lot more hard to read(Endo's yellow is a primary offender or Yamasaki if he's pink and not green like they did for a lot of earlier stuff).

There was a really interesting article in Hollywood Reporter about how we might be seeing more Japanese variety shows adapted to the US. I'm not intrigued by that idea, but some of the shows that are mentioned are shows that I've never heard of. Stuck Till You're Done sounds like it could be good fun, as does Endurance. Has anyone heard of these shows? Interestingly enough, Gaki isn't mentioned at all.

Weirdly, I've found that the UK version of Wipeout (named Total Wipeout since there was a much-loved 80s game by that name in Britain) seems closer to the Japanese aesthetic than the US 'original.' At least with Sasuke and what I've seen of Takeshi's Castle, the rear end in a top hat traps are things that could be overcome with a huge amount of talent and luck, whereas Wipeout (US) is basically 'machines to make people fall down'. Though, as the US version gets done with materials and sends them down to be included on the international filming site in Argentina, the UK version is getting more 'people fall down'
|
# ? Sep 29, 2012 05:05 |

The UK version was always like that too. Maybe not 'as bad' as the US one but any course that features that punch-wall and the big balls isn't meant to be completed without falling. Isn't that the reason why 'failure' is those games is just a diversion whilst it meant elimination in Sasuke.
|
# ? Sep 29, 2012 06:07 |

The US version is dumb because it's all just timed. The stupid contestants will spend 2 minutes slowly going across the punch wall before getting knocked into the water, when they can just jump in and wade across in like 30 seconds anyway.
