I gave Kill for Love another listen after a couple months off, and yeah, still doesn't really do it for me either. The Neil Young cover to kick off is fine, my ears just don't find any of the songs all that remarkable.

I'm dying for them to come somewhere in the midwest. Ideally KC or STL so it'd be a hometown show for me, but poo poo, if it's Chicago or Minny or something I'd still make the trip to see "The River" played live.

Kill For Love has some excellent tracks (The first 4 and the last 2) but I can't remember which track is which with the inbetween ones. The pauses in some of them annoy the gently caress out of me too. Also its good to see P4K give a bad review to Alt-J, finally my dislike of them despite all my friends pushing them is validated.

Odd timing — Spotify just recently got Kill for Love so I've listened to it quite a bit while at work. I was shocked because there couldn't have been more than 100 people there, total, and I got to be right up front -- and a little too close to the speakers. Pretty sure I had mild tinnitus for two days after the show. Loud, incredible music. Attack On Memory is definitely in my top three for albums of the year, for sure (I pretty much flip between it, "Bloom" by Beach House and "The Money Store" by Death Grips, depending on my mood).

Kind of in a funk and can't find anything I like. So please, fire away with some suggestions. I'll listen to generally everything, but lately it's been a lot of John Maus, Molly Nilsson, Shellac, Lightning Bolt, Women and Big Black. Basically, I like noise. However I've also been listening to tons of Drive By Truckers, Lucero, Smog and John Prine. So whatever. I just need something new.

John Darnielle has an unlimited amount of good indie songs, it seems. I don't think Transcendental Youth is quite as good All Eternal Decks but still extremely solid. White Cedar and Transcendental Youth are some of my favorite songs he has ever done. I don't know if this is the place to put this, but Tall Tales Vol. 1 by American Gospel is probably my album of the year. I gave it a pass when it first came out, but I've been really listening to it this past week and it's really amazing. standouts are I Know, Say, Hunting Boar, better Off, I'll Never Let You Go, and Geronimo. That entire Death Grips album is insane. The situation around it is pretty crazy too. It was all set to be released October 23rd, and then Epic dicked around and said "naw let's wait until 2013." Death Grips then said gently caress it and uploaded the full album on their website for stream and download, and the website then went down a few hours later. That then led to Death Grips posting a ton of links on twitter in response with multiple sites that had it for download. Strange to say the least.

It took a little bit for "The Money Store" to click with me, but when it finally did, it was like magic. I've only had one listen through on the new album and while I definitely don't think I'm gonna love it like I did the first one, can't write anything off yet just because of how weird Death Grips is. But seriously, like half of my favorite songs of the year are off The Money Store (Get Got, The Fever, Hustle Bones, Double Helix, I've Seen Footage, Hacker). Plus, Hacker is the most randomly quotable and hilarious song I've heard in years.

The Mountain Goats new album Transcendental Youth came out today, and unsurprisingly it is entirely fantastic. Some of the horn arrangements on the album are just stunning, and Jon Wurster's drumming accentuates them really well on the title track. Also there is some kind of recording trick going on in Night Light and I have no idea what they're doing to make that buzzing sound. Get Lonely? Definitely worth picking up. Does anyone know who composed the horns on the album?

Wait a sec, how is there NOT a Mountain Goats thread. I've had the new album on repeat all day. I am loving how hes using piano more on stuff. It provides a nice change of pace. Its just so awesome. I'm back on lakeside view apartment suite. The bass on this song. Its all so amazing.
