That's what you get for finding whoever can speak basic english in your japanese studio to record lines for you trying to recreate the campy B movie atmosphere. It still makes me laugh to here Wesker, supposedly pissed, at the end of Chris's campaign to "Stop it".

Just finished a little marathon session of this game. Started off by playing the first 2 chapters of Chris's campaign then popped over to mercenaries mode to try it out for a bit. Finally I finished off the night by playing the first 2 chapters of Leon's campaign.

I really don't get what all the fuss is about. I've been having a great time. As far as I'm concerned the game is worth the price of admission just for Leon's campaign as it has been fantastic so far.

So yeah, I'm off to get some sleep. Will probably try to finish the game when I wake up.

The sheer divisiveness kinda makes it less of a "good"/"bad" thing and more a "will you enjoy it" thing, and if YOU enjoy it who gives a gently caress, you're enjoying yourself.

As dumb, simple, and non-revelatory as that sounds.

Chris' section is by far the weakest link of this game. I'm enjoying Leon's and the bit I've played of Jake's (although, not as much so far as I enjoyed 4 and 5), but Chris' is frustrating, boring, and nigh-on unplayable at times. I'm halfway through Chapter 2, and I'm not really enjoying it all. It really feels rushed, and the shooting mechanics are frankly not good enough for a game that has enemies firing back at you. The camera and the aiming in this one are terrible.

I think I'm mainly worried about me getting pissed off about the control system changes and those who say this system makes it impossible to shoot and inventory control becoming tedious (moreso than 5) I'll probably be ok when I actually have the controller in my hand and get inevitably killed a few times figuring it out, but it's those pregame high hopes that I don't wish to be dashed.

We'll see in a few when I go pick up my copy. Hope everyone who already has their copies are having fun

Did you play the demo? The controls/inventory are easily the best in the series. They're still a little janky because it's Resident Evil and only just figured out how to move and aim simultaneously along with not driving people like tanks but it's not bad.

Sadly I didn't play the demo (hell I didn't even know one got released to be honest), I pre-ordered it out of merits from previous games and that I've grown up with the series. Hell, if it's just slightly better than 5 (which is still a good game), I'd be happy. Like I said, most of my worries is probably just pregame anxiousness and will probably go away when I actually play the drat thing.

Heading out to get it now. See you goons in a few hours

Is Re6 worth getting for someone who is a big RE fan but hated the demo. Specifically I hated the demo because I felt like it was very heavy handed in shooshing me along so the game could go at it's own pace instead of mine. Is the whole game like that or is it mostly during story and set piece type moments?

Not played much but I'm back on the streets as Leon and it's great how manic the streets feel. It's a loving warzone.

NESguerrila, at the moment it's all been pretty linear. There's been one section where I had to delve off in search of a keycard and that was in the demo too. But as I say, I'm not THAT far into it.

Just finished Leon's chapter 2. Not as good as RE5, I have to say - I've sunk dozens of hours into that one - but I'm enjoying it all the same. Played a little of Mercs mode but I have the sinking feeling you're going to have to fork out :10bux: in order to enjoy it properly, considering it only comes with three maps (unless others unlock down the line - there's only the Urban Chaos and two others marked as ??? so far). Jake is an absolute beast in Mercs mode though. He's basically a nerfed version of Midnight Wesker from RE5, but even still, he has the best kung fu for racking up kills and bonus time: second time using him (fourth time playing the mode full stop) and I managed to get up to 142/150 kills.

Anyway, if anyone's looking for a reliable co-op partner on 360, I'm your manL GT: RaptusRegaltier

Using a melee attack on a stunned/stumbled zombie while it and you are close enough to a wall.

Melee basically has two "tiers"; a zombie that's just standing there will eat a gun check or roundhouse kick, but a zombie that's off-balance or stumbling forward is open to an attack that might kill it.

I agree that Mikami definitely has the capacity to make funny games, but he only produced the games that you just brought up. The only game he made that was definitely meant to be funny was God Hand, then you have RE4 (which seems serious outside of the dialogue) and Vanquish (which is really weird and tonally inconsistent, I suspect it's supposed to be satirical but I don't know if it accomplishes it).

But now I'm derailing, so on the subject of RE4, I have heard some super hardcore Resident Evil fans on other forums say that the Japanese script plays everything with a straight face. I don't know whether that's true or not, though. I do know that Mikami was actively trying to avoid camp when he was directing REmake, and he had to keep the English scriptwriters from putting references to goofy RE1 stuff in, so that might indicate something.

RE1GC and RE4 have such totally diferent tones and objectives, even if you take them both straight, that one isn't really indicative of the other. There is absolutely zero chance that Salazar is not meant to be funny, you can't play the giant statue scene straight. The game is far from 100% comedy but it has a ton of silly, intentionally corny scenes. The fact that it treats both the light hearted and actual creepy parts of the game with equal care is what makes its cutscenes so endearing.

Anyone else having problems with getting behind cover? Things that seem to be cover don't want to protect me.

Started with Jake, and had to start over because I realized to late that ammo conservation is once again the name of the game. That and it took me forever to figure out how exactly I was supposed to yank the protective covering off the giants back. That should not have taken me that long but it did anyway :downs:

Edit: oh and knocking a zombie dead with the charge punch as it runs around a corner will never stop being amusing to me.

Positioning plays a factor with many melee moves. Being behind them or in front, while they are down in both ways, behind a piece of cover or waist high divider, and if you charge your attack or are in complete CQC mode. They all have a bearing in how you will come out swinging

It seems like if you're right up in the zombie's face (and the zombie is fairly close to the wall when stumbled), there's a better chance of doing it. If you're a little bit away you'll do one of the usual melee animations.

Anyhow I've only been playing Leon's campaign but I am enjoying the poo poo out of it. That said anyone playing needs to immediately gently caress around the aim sensitivity and turn that poo poo down several pegs as well as turn on the old laser sights since the crosshairs are terrible. Turning down the camera turn speed helped too. The defaults are all floaty and bad but I managed to get something akin to RE5 type speeds and have been happy with it.

Bolded to stress this point. while you are in the options menu, I would highly recommend switching color of the laser to green because red likes to disappear very fast in the action, especially in the explosions. Green stands out big time.

So I've just finished Jake and Sherry's campaign having already done Leon and Chris and the credits this time around have the most godawful cheesy rock track I think I've ever heard.

Now that I've played the three campaigns they all have their highs and lows, I think I'd struggle to point at one and say 'this is definitely the worst (or best)'. I guess if I had to pick one I'd say I prefer Leon's, I thought some of the boss fights in Chris and Jake's got a bit tedious.
