It actually makes some sense (in the typical RE way) if you play through Leon's and then Ada's campaigns.

Thanks for that.
I thought all NA games got proper manuals.

edit: Forget everything I posted earlier, nothing is worse than this blizzard poo poo. This is the single most annoying thing I've played in a decade. Infinitely spawning enemies including snipers and flying poo poo? combined with zero visibility and no idea on how to get to my several destinations? Even if you kill all of them it doesn't give you a second to look around a bit for a route before more spawn. Why can these snipers see me when I cant see them? And after that there's the driving part where I died about 10 time in a row because I cant see where its safe to drive and not. On the stealth part now, and I have no idea how to get past this. How is stealth gonna help me get past something that covers a whole corridor? I can't shoot them or get past them. When I do try running I cant find anywhere to hide after that at least.

After playing a shitload of Mercenaries, I've come to the conclusion that the core system is absolutely astounding. Like I stated earlier, it's absolutely the feedback and lack of explanation/introductions to systems. The stun state animation for enemies is a huge problem, because it looks almost the same as their regular movement or idle state.

I haven't had this much fun with with any of the other Mercs modes, it's ridiculous. I really think it'll be the star of the game, rather than any of the campaigns.

The evolution of the RE4/5 system is extremely clear in Mercenaries rather than any of the campaigns. It's absolutely absurd that the campaigns don't seem to express the action as well.

Knowing the full extent of the systems helps a lot too- the pace of Mercenaries is basically perfect once you start learning movement and melee. Knowing the shortcut to the herb mix+store (R1/RB+reload) helps a lot too!

Melee them when they're turned around. ...Yeah, the game doesn't explain that at all but that's what you gotta do. It's real easy once you learn that.

It seems the score bonus you get from left over time has been severely reduced compared to RE5. I'm not sure why this change was necessary.

Something is wrong with the brightness thing at the start. Ignore it, leave the brightness near the middle. I literally couldn't make the 6 disappear.

RE6's main problem is that it doesn't teach you how to play it. At all. Once you know the rules, game owns.

It's insanely easy to get an A in Urban Chaos. The only trouble I ever had was with this big, fat zombies with Helena because she didn't have a magnum or a (good) shotgun to beat them down with. The acid rounds worked out well as did the C4. All I did was shoot the monster in the face then did some wrestling move that exploded their head. When the skinless zombie things came I hit the QTE during their lunge and instantly killed them.

I still haven't used the bonus score to good use, though. I've gotten up to 165k with Leon but I can't really get much further. No Handcannon at the end of the "S" rank road, unfortunately, so I'm not playing for points or rank above "A".

I finished up Chris's campaign and I really did enjoy it. Though, I think the new inventory system sucks. I want to customize my loadout not have a million different weapons that tell the game to drop all the different types of ammo that eats up my inventory space. I also hate how the ammo stacks. 150 for pistol but 60 for AR? How about just 250 for every ammo type? I rather have the money stuff back and just buy my new guns and upgrade them. That was a ton of fun and it gave me some variety.

I also though the car chase in Chris's chapter 3 was pretty poo poo. My friend and I had to do it several times because the game isn't clear on how well or bad you are doing and usually just ends abruptly despite you thinking you're doing reasonably well.

Just finished Chris' campaign and dear god that was such a slog to play through and really was the polar opposite of Leons' in terms of enjoyment, I finished most of the chapters around an hour and a half but it felt like it went on for a lot longer and the only enjoyment I had with it tended to be completely on accident, like forward rolling in slow motion and blowing a J'avo's kneecap out to save the hostage in Chapter 1 or pushing like 5 guys in a row over rooftop railings to their deaths. Have been looking forward to Jake's campaign and will probably start that tomorrow with my coop buddy, it's not like the remaining campaigns can be any worse than Chris' so it all up hill from here. Anyone know how to perform a coup de grace successfully? I did a couple of them in Leon's campaign apparently, but in the entire of Chris's I did 0 despite using melee often. I assume it's like RE5, where you chain a melee attack together with your buddy or something, then do a super powerful one to finish them, but i'm not sure.

edit - looking at the terrible manual the picture they have for it is Chris's "lift and throw" move, which I did about a thousand times. Weird.

I think that's the attack you do when you hit a enemy at the same time as your partner. Supposedly you can tell the difference because the context button will change from the melee one according to the guide.

Just finished all 3 of the main campaigns. Game owns hardcore.

I'd say the usual in liking Leon's the most and Chris's the least but honestly I didn't mind Chris too much at all.

Only thing in the game I really didn't like were the reforming zombies that came up a lot at the end, sometimes they'd be easy to shake off and sometimes I'd have literally no way of throwing them off me and have to watch a 15 second cutscene of me dying. They're the only thing I really don't look forward to doing again as I enjoyed most everything else.

Here's to hoping Ada's is good too!

Spoilers for Jake's final boss and the like though That whole thing was a homage to Chris vs Wesker and the end of RE2 right?

I think playing mercenaries gives you a much better sense of the core mechanics which I think are very strong, in particular the melee. In fact I'd suggest people play a few rounds of mercenaries before playing the campaigns - its a much less chaotic environment to get used to the controls and systems, etc.

vvvv I never had a problem with any of them, I'm not sure what's wrong with that. The stealth thing was easy for me after figuring out I could smack them and the random driving stuff felt like a great way to mix up the action.

In all honesty the games about 20 hours long for it's campaign and that's crazy, and as much as I like the running and gunning parts 20 hours straight would kill me so when it mixes stuff up I enjoyed it.

It's not the combat that's the problem. In fact, that's one of the genuinely great things about the game as it's very diverse. It's the fetish (in Jake's campaign at least) for gimmicks that makes it unfun to play.

The game is at its best when it's similar to RE4-5 in that it's walking around shooting enemies rather than constant on-rails sequences, or stealth missions, or fetch quests or whatever the gently caress the game decides to vomit.

Look for the ropes it is using to drop the enemies. If you get near one you'll get a QTE to climb up it. Reach the top and you can just shoot the pilot in the head. This is how you get the Hard Choices achievement.

If you mean the first section where Chris and Piers are helping you, just stand under the awnings and the helicopter can't shoot you. If you want/need to go out, just run back under the awning once the light falls on you. I've heard you can do the Hard Choices achievement here too but I haven't tried it and the person I talked to said IGN said you could do it so I'd take it with a grain of salt because... IGN.

If you have a weapon or you're a spitter zombie you can cycle through attacks with the d-pad. Should get a little choice wheel like swapping weapons and the attack prompts will change at the bottom.

Also I have NO idea what to do here. I'm playing as Jake and I have to get a key card behind a Big Daddy but no matter what I do either me or Sherry gets drilled. So is the general consensus that the core combat mechanics are solid and fun, building off of the feels of 4 and 5 while improving them overall? And that the campaigns are kinda poo poo due to constant stupid cutscene/setpiece stuff? If so, this is a buy for me, eventually at least. I think I played Mercenaries waaay more than the main mode in 5 and thought it was great that way.

The campaigns are of varying quality. They have some really great moments and some really awful moments.

I have to say I think one of their biggest mistakes was doing away with the sub-chapter system. I think it makes everything feel more overwhelming because you're doing an entire chapter in one giant burst instead of in smaller chunks, which helps increase the feeling of setpieces overwhelming. Instead of "I'm doing THIS in Chapter-1-1 and THIS in Chapter 1-2" it's "I'm doing this, this, this and this in Chapter 1."
