I'm a couple weeks behind the trend but fuuuuck Love this Giant is good! The packaging is really neat too, instead of a jewel case or a cardboard case it's a soft plastic pockety thing, and there's no real booklet, all the inserts are separate cards.

Will probably take a few listens to truly appreciate, as with The Monitor, but it seems promising. I can't wait to hear this. What are the lyrics like? More Civil War stuff? More about depression? More Dark Knight quotes? Will I still relate to every line? Edit: The first song is so poppy, in a good way! Reminds me of locals The Smith Street Band, who just put another album out. Between this and the Mountain Goats, I'll need a whole month to analyze the lyrics. I was surprised there was no site annotating The Monitor. 'In A Big City' continues some of the robotic imagery from some songs on The Monitor. Has anyone heard Allo Darlin? Nice jangly twee style band, proper style pop and playing free this weekend. It's a totally different direction than The Monitor, though that was expected. I'm loving it! There's a lot of bluegrass and some pop influence, and it really works well! I expect it will be in my AOTY considerations.

I went to the Brooklyn show last month and it was amazing. He plays all of Copper Blue, about 3 or 4 new songs, then goes into lots of old stuff from Hüsker Dü, Sugar, and his solo material. The show here was free but I was going to pay to see it before it was moved to an outdoor venue.

Thanks for the tip!

I can't get over how good Two Car Garage are, or how ignored. It seems like honest country rock bands with great lyrics like these guys or Lucero or J Roddy Walsh and the Business or Jason Anderson either get lumped in with punk bands or otherwise ignored, while the 'indie' press like Pitchfork and The Quietus focuses on music and not lyrics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oED6ER6Zs3w - Folksinger's Heart quote:Now I'm twenty-five years old. That's a different thread though, so you should be quite safe. I'd like to hear of this band!

Half the bands talked about in here are fairly well known (Titus Andronicus for example) but I don't think anybody minds posting about them as long as they are actually good (see Titus Andronicus). However, gently caress Mumford & Sons and Fleet Foxes.

It's actually titled "Everyman Needs a Companion" (changes the meaning) On balance, I enjoy Fear Fun more than Helplessness Blues (although "Now I'm Learning to Love the War" is kind of dumb lyrically). "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings" is one of my favorite songs of the year. Plus it has a fun video starring Aubrey Plaza! :iamafag: Link

I'm too obtuse to catch the difference or how it changes the song! The lyric "I never liked the name Joshua / I got tired of J" is amazing, and I love Now I'm Learning to Love the War, so harumph.

I, as someone who obviously doesn't care for the Fleet Foxes, quite enjoyed FJM. Looking through my played list it appears I like 'Nancy From Now On' the most. It's a good enough album and I enjoy the slight subversiveness of the lyrics.

Mumford & Sons opened up a pop-up shop in Sydney for a week where you apparently drink whiskey and listen to their new album. There was no way I was going. Anyone like First Aid Kit? They're a neat little alt-folk band, but I'm not sure they're worth $60 at the Opera House. When did 'indie' get so gentle anyway? I love my twee and indie pop, but there seems to be a new level of inoffensiveness in the Bon Iver/Mumford crowd. http://m.pitchfork.com/features/articles/6176-twee-as-gently caress/ Old, great article about twee. I've been listening to Heavenly and Tullycraft lately, and seeing Blues Control tonight. There's a new Go-Betweens retrospective album coming out, but I don't know if it's getting an international release.

Rather than just a stream of advertisements. I agree! I would also love to hear more from you guys regarding shows you go to with uploaded pictures and details on how the artist was live so that other goons can use the thread as a little heads up . I tried to do so with my earlier post about the Blind Pilot concert I went to. I can't really contribute to the whole Fleet Foxes and Father John Misty discussion, although I will say that I dislike Mumford & Sons for some reason I can't really put into words. I mean I like The Great Lake Swimmers which is stylistically pretty similar, if a little slower. I'm gonna second that the new the Mountain Goats album is pretty awesome. I haven't been able to listen to it thoroughly but I always dig the way that Darnielle puts such subtle noises into his songs. It's a beautiful thing. That weird distorted voice in Until I Am Whole gave me chills the first time I heard it. Delta Spirit is playing in Los Angeles in early November so I'll definitely be posting some pictures and let you guys know how they are live! Can't wait to stare into the lead singer's crazy eyes while he sings about California to me. Also, Teen Daze is getting ready to release their new album The Inner Mansions this coming November and it's sounding pretty great. Jewellers - Lakeswimmer Self described as electronic ambient electronica funk soul. This album has all the perfect sound textures and little effects and in all the right combination to hook into my brain. I've enjoyed this countless times so far this year. Looking around on the internet there is hardly anything out there about it. So I wanted to share, full album streaming: http://jewellersmusic.com/album/lakeswimmer The second track reminds me of when a computer hard freezes and leaves the audio looping a small chunk of sound. In a good way.

This might be a super out dated fact but despite Console Warriors' self-titled EP being out since April of this year, I just noticed now that it's available for name-your-price download on their website. Also it's very good. And if you don't know of Console Warriors, which is very possible, they're often popular among people who fancy Two Door Cinema Club and Minus the Bear type acts.
