Hey, I'm having the chance to see My Bloody Valentine in February next year, I was wondering if anyone had seen them in recent years since they reformed, are they what they used to be? Or am I going to end up heartbroken that they didn't live up to everything I had hoped?

Also, sorry if this wasn't the right place to post it but I really didn't know where else to put it.

Very light and jingle pop from a LA brother duo. Saw them open for gardens and villa a few months back. They're finally pushing out a properly mixed EP. Worth checking out if you dig that band or Passion Pit.

I saw them at All Points West festival in 2009 and I was honestly disappointed. They really are one of the loudest bands you'll ever see but instead of being awesome it was just painful. Maybe it's because it was outdoors but the mix was terrible, all you could hear was feedback. I remember thinking, "Oh now I recognize this track, but shouldn't he be singing right now?" and then looking up at the video monitors and seeing his mouth moving. It was like his mic wasn't even turned on.

My friend and I had to bail because it was just unenjoyable being in front of the stage, however we sat down halfway across the park and the volume was loud enough that we could hear clearly but not painful anymore and it was actually more enjoyable listening from far away. For some reason they went on before Tool headlined the night and I heard later that the feedback and noise made a bunch of people vomit.

Don't get too discouraged though, if the sound is mixed better than when I saw them and you make sure you wear earplugs there's a chance you'll enjoy the show.

They've also got "Open", which dropped way back in February and (I think) is better than "The Fall", though both are amazing.

Oh yeah, no way I'd be not wearing ear plugs, but yeah, this leaves me surprisingly encouraged, the venue they're playing is this really small theatre with an awesome aesthetic, and they've had fantastic sound every time I'v been there. So if that was your biggest complain then that's good I guess.

God drat, to all you guys who posted Rhye, Summer Fiction, PAWS, and Pacific Air I love you. Some really amazing tracks from those artists.

Just a heads up for everyone. The Fresh & Onlys released a new album last month called Long Slow Dance. It's a pretty solid piece of work, with the single Presence of Mind making its rounds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7u6udhgSGg I agree with other reviewers when they say that they really hammered out their floaty pop sound.

Woods is a band I posted before, but they also released a new album very recently and it's pretty much amazing. They nail this classic rock sound with awesome guitar work, distant warbling vocals, and catchy as hell riffs. I'm in love with this album and I definitely urge anyone and everyone to check it out. Because it's simple, catchy driving music, I've listened to Gorilla Manor disproportionate to how much I actually like it. It's an ok album with a couple stand out songs, namely "Wide Eyes" and "Who Knows Who Cares". Their new song is pretty cool, regardless.

Also Woods are great and the new album kicks rear end, maybe more than At Echo Lake. Definitely a bit more of a psych rock throwback album, which isn't a bad thing.

I was listening to Friendo today, a pretty cool band I found out about from a Jagjaguwar split that Women did with them and a couple other bands, who weren't bad but Friendo stood out as the most similar to Women and imo the best of the bunch. If I had to sum them up, I'd say they're a poppier version of Women, i.e., bare bones lo-fi melodies with a similar sort of stilted guitar tone. It's not the most appealing of descriptions, but they're a fun listen. Check them out, their album Cold Toads is pretty good.

This song is them at their most poppy (off their split with Women):

This is my favorite, though--slow, quiet song with some gorgeous vocal harmonies. Ignore the video:

I feel almost embarrassed putting them in this thread, but since there's no place to talk about real, proper, hip-shaking, wall-rattling ROCK AND ROLL I guess I'll tell you folks about the new Jim Jones Revue album. These guys are amazing, like Nick Cave fronting Jerry Lee Lewis' band. Saw them live twice last year, and their first album gets parties started wherever it goes. And now they've got a new album out!

Jim Jones Revue sound the way you'd think the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion sounds before you've heard them.

I went out and caught a Freelance Whales show tonight. It was pretty good, and I'm sure most of you interested in that genre have heard of them already. However, I had not heard of the opening act before, Geographer. It was extrodinarily well done, and it was cool watching three guys put down as many parts as Freelance Whale's 6-piece band with creative looping. Neither the last few pages nor the first page had a mention of them, so I thought I'd drop it in here because I hadn't heard of them before tonight either.

I'm not positive that this is the right place to post this!

So my friend is a singer/songwriter for a band in Australia called Mirella's Inferno and they're about to release their first EP... she describes their sound as alternative electro-pop which is a term that is more or less lost on me. I just know what I like or don't like.

They have uploaded their first single on YouTube and I think the track is pretty good. Personally, I try to ignore the video attached to the audio because montages do nothing for me (and it's not a great montage in any case).

I've listened through Local Business a few times now. I like it a lot but it's definitely a bit of a let down coming off The Monitor (and I also don't think it's as good as The Airing of Grievances, although it's a bit closer to that in sound). The Monitor was a really messy, strange, and ultimately brilliant album. It was totally different sounding and seemed downright epic. Local Business is a relatively straight forward and polished uplifting rock album. That's totally fine, and they're really good at that, it's just not exactly what I was hoping for from a new Titus Andronicus album. Still really excited to see them play live in three weeks though (a day after I see Japandroids, gonna OD on rock that week).
