I honestly do not recall why I joined, but I want to say it was either the Franky the Purple Dildo saga or the poo poo and Lasagna Covered Roommate story. Either way, they were both awesome, and it is not ten bucks I regret using.

I started lurking a few years ago in TFF, I was on study abroad and needed some sort of tie to American culture to keep me sane. Eventually I branched out into other subforums, and drunkenly registered an account because a thread I had been following was either moved to a private forum or just plain sealed up from the public, and I was bored that night. It was a pretty good investment- I've gotten everything from laughs to free Steam games to cooking advice, far more valuable than the I spent to get on here. Just don't be an idiot and treat other posters with some amount of respect.

Lurked BFC and wanted to ask some questions. Stayed because TFF (and, really, SAS in general) is the best sports community that I've found.

I remember reading the front page back in middle school and thinking, yes, yes I can. I put down my Naruto headband in exchange for higher class animes. I picked up a short lived WoW account, but that was only the first step in a voyage. Within weeks I was running a multi-account macro'd mining operation in my parent's garage in Eve Online (you know, before the farce that is bitcoin came along).

My best friend is a goon and she introduced me and I got hooked because of Musicians Lounge and for some of reason GBS. Edit my own stupidity.

Someone linked me to the TVTropes threads because I had an account there like three years ago (I am so sorry.) I thought "Oh good! An opportunity for intelligent, eloquent conversation with smart people!" Then I proceeded to never post because it turned out that while other people on these forums are intelligent/eloquent/smart, I sure as hell am not and I don't have much to contribute. I know I can't be banned for making bland boring low-content posts, but I get so worried. Then I discovered Pet Island and all my problems were solved, the end.

I was on an SA-clone forum called Facepunch for a long time, I'm even a moderator there. A couple years ago, one of the administrators (also a goon) got fired over some bullshit, and since he was the one who kept the community interesting and good, it went to poo poo, so I came here.

Someone told me there was a thread on the SA forums about something I did back in 05 that spread around to a bunch of forums. I used to read the front page so I signed up. Couldn't find a thread about it, though. At least I got a TFark thread.

Oddly enough... I was getting tired of EVE... (Job = no time free = All Alone Online) EVE is very dull without other people to do it with. So I bought Minecraft... Then I noticed the post quality on the SA forums. Specifically the Minecraft modding topic. I thought: "Will be nice to be in a high S/N ratio forum for once". I payed my :tenbucks: as a sign of support. I found the private game servers to be a real boon as far as Mincraft servers go.

I played WoW heavily my Senior year of Highschool. The only two guildmates of mine who were funny and didn't end up being complete assholes eventually hosed off to Goon Squad to escape drama, so I decided to see how to apply there, and ended up on SA. Never did apply to GS in the end.

I was pulled in by LF during the 2008 primaries. I didn't know America had people who were as left-leaning as my little hippie Canadian town. After it was deleted, I reluctantly explored the other forums and have been somewhat of a lost soul ever since. I posted a lot in Games during Skyrim/Red Dead/other big RPGs, but I haven't played anything in several months. I posted in the NHL thread until the lockout killed it. Now I seem to be enticed by TV/IV, but maybe not for long since there isn't a single new show that I like. I toxxed myself in YLLS so I really should be in there more.

I used to lurk before I ever joined. Seeing the homemade flamethrower thread is my first memory of SA but I don't remember if that was before / after I joined for sure. That and playing Diablo 2 was a big motivator. Goons were some of the best people to know in that game.

I joined in 2000, back when there was a front page. I think I was linked to a jeffk article by a poster on a local forum I used to visit. The something awful forum was very active even back then, and it was free to register, so I signed up. I've been making high quality posts ever since; my first ban occurred when I claimed that a person called lowtax stole all his jokes from old sierra games.

Because SA, despite being comedy oriented, has a better Signal-to-noise ratio than most other large websites. Being able to click on a thread and knowing that it won't be 80% 10 year old memes/fail/FTW!!/low content posts, 10% low effort "trolling", and 10% real content? For a site this size, that alone is worth the $10. There's also a ton of funny poo poo here, and I got sick of not being able to view the forums sometimes.

Back in '03 I used to read GBS and think it was hillarious (it really was back then). I asked my dad to buy me an account on his credit card and he said no. It wasn't until 2006 that I had $10 in my paypal account from selling something, so I went into a goon IRC channel and asked some guy to buy me an account in exchange for my $10 paypal. Thanks guy!

When I was 16 (back in 2000) I used to post on the "off-topic" section of the Counter-strike.net forum. That place was deserted when everyone moved over to SA during one of the free registration windows, so I took advantage as well.

I always found the front page and various articles here hilarious since I found the site (Cliff Yablonski hates you was pretty mind-blowing to an 11-year-old). I never even thought of venturing into the forums since I knew you needed to buy an account which I had no means of getting (and I definitely wasn't going to alert my parents to the existence of this site that has corrupted me so deeply). This is one of the reasons I think the pay wall is a really good thing. There's no doubt that if I had the chance, my 13 year old self would have been depositing poo poo posts left and right here rather than on GameFAQs or something where they belonged. Anyway, when I was about 18 or 19 I decided to actually read the forums and realized they were vastly superior to any other forum I've ever read, and never looked back.

I joined right now after finally getting sick of reddit failing to properly understand the concept of free speech. I started out at 14 on ebaums, quickly went to newgrounds by 16, then mostly to 4chan for a long and depressing 3 years, then reddit and digg for 4 years. Like I told my sister the other day - reddit is like Australia. It is great fun as long as you don't turn over any rocks or look in any caves or dark areas generally. What you see will terrify you. I am trying SA in a search for a community that doesn't suck. I will now go and lurk for a month or so until I figure out how to use this stuff.

One night about ten years ago I was tripping on acid at home and somehow stumbled upon the make porn safe for work photoshop Friday. At the time it was the most hilarious thing I'd ever seen, but after I came down I promptly forgot all about it. Years later I had a bit of a flashback moment and remembered it so tried looking for it and found the forums instead. I found more awesome funny poo poo as well as heaps of informative, helpful threads and it didn't take me long to sign up.

I mostly joined because a friend kept telling me about all the awesome content, really. First memory of SA (or, first I can easily recall) is of FYAD's thread about that guy who hooked up his own zip line at that children's summer camp. Couldn't read the original GBS thread because I didn't have archives, but Christ it was funny.

I checked the front page every day and eventually found out there were forums here. I don't feel the need to post much so it took me a while to register. I originally found SA in late '99 or early 2000 when somebody on the 3drealms forums linked to JeffK.
