Errand of Mercy is a show I (Geraint Thomas) do with my good friend Simon Payne. We used to do a student radio show and after Simon broke up with his long term girlfriend and I ended up in a job cold calling the recently bereaved we started this podcast to deal with our quarter life crisis. Once a week we get together and record our thoughts on the news, music and life and it turns out this is pretty funny stuff. Also we're British so are automatically entertaining to any Yanks who might listen.

We're on episode 19 now and finally seemed to have worked out most of the bugs which included Simon apparently resetting the first 13 shows so they all say they were released on September 11th. Have some fan reviews:

"Best. Podcast. Ever. !"
"Simon reminds me of Stewart Lee"
"I was walking down the road earlier today listening to this one and let out a loud "BURN!" at around the 20 minute mark... Luckily I'm pretty used to people thinking I'm crazy."
"this is hilarious"

This Week

The Rolling Stones are back on tour to the surprise of all, Simon and Geraint relive getting groomed by internet perverts, Creep or Creation, Bland Music for Ordinary People, having sex while wearing the crown of Gondor, Furbies have returned as part of a fiendish Chinese plot to brainwash our kids, the state of advertising in Late Stage Capitalism.

Errand of Mercy Episode 20: Deep in the Duodenum of Nihilism

This week we discuss a 9 inch dildo jammed into a Chinese man's intestines, more things that absolutely have to stop, teens taking looking at boobs to strange new levels, how to deal with your boyfriend wearing your pants, more Creep or Creation, Germany being the racist drunk uncle of Europe, English Fascists doing it wrong, how to avoid tazing the blind and much, much more.

I apologize for some funny sound issues on this, I thought we had worked them out but it still sound a bit crapped out in a couple of places. As we generally can't be in the same city we're having to do it all online which is easier than I expected but can still throw up a few issues.

Errand of Mercy Episode 21: Pissed at the Wheel on Jeezo

This week I started by breaking the news of Star Wars 7 to Simon who hadn't checked the headlines before we started recording. Obviously this was hilarious but his mental collapse might have had a slightly detrimental effect on the rest of the show. Also given that everyone is talking about it there was quite a lot of depressing American politics which is a real struggle to make into something fun and enjoyable.

Unless you're someone who became famous or built an audience through a method external to podcasting (you're a celebrity, you have a popular website, online comic, streaming video series, etc) there's a pretty finite ceiling as far as interest goes. Despite my garbage lack of a schedule, the audience for my podcast has been pretty much roughly the same number for years by virtue of the niche subject matter. For instance, I looked at my site stats for how many people were clicking on the links I posted in this thread and it was basically nothing. Makes sense.

A lot of people who listen to podcasts put out by "regular people" are often themselves podcasters. If I had one bit of advice for you, it'd be that you've done about 30 episodes but have no promos. Make something that's like 30-60 seconds long which includes the name of your show, the URL, and something you feel captures the gist of what you're about. Then put the link up on your sidebar, email it to the podcasts you listen to which operate on a similar wavelength, and ask if they'll play it. Offer to play their promo in return if they'd like. Shows that are commercial enterprises trying to monetize themselves probably will ignore you. But if you're not "a famous person," what else can you do without throwing money at the problem?

Errand of Mercy Episode 22: Smashing News to Bring you the Truth

This week is all about Cross-Atlantic exchange. Geraint stayed up till 8am watching the US election and is all hosed up on politics and sleep deprivation. Simon went to see Wrestling come to the UK and had a fun time. Errand of Mercy's official tag-team is now the Rhode Scholars. Geraint gives a British persons view on Fox News. Russia Today makes a welcome return. A man in Oldham is giving children cocaine for Halloween.

We had a massive amount of fun doing this weeks episode and I think it might be one of our best based purely on that.

We talk about videogames every week but we also talk about anything on our minds. We often make up fake products or sponsors as joke segments, too. We are heavily inspired by Tim and Eric Awesome show, Mike and Tom eat snacks, Comedy Bang Bang and The Preston And Steve Show. The episodes do not have to be listened to in order, and often deal with a specific topic, like the best controllers, casual gaming, violence in games or game related careers. This week we recorded the show at 9 in the morning, which was different, as we ussually record in the evenings. It was nice to do a show over a cup of tea and some porridge though and also reminded me and Simon of our roots in Breakfast radio. This week have news about Crazy Uncle Deutchland's bestiality laws, corporate incompetence which takes me to my dark place, future South Korean cyber-punk gangster city, excitement as our lack of physics knowledge convinces us that warp drives might soon be real, and the welcome return of Creep or Creation.

We're also looking at making some youtube videos of our "best bits" soon, so you can hopefully look forward to me pimping that before too long.

We've been podcasting about great horror flicks for over a year now. We have 15 shows so far. I'm working on editing the 16th show featuring Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) just in time for Christmas. We generally release one show every month since we do this in our spare time and it takes a while to edit a show together. This isn't 3 hours of people talking. We edit out all the fluff, stay on topic, throw in audio clips of the scenes we discuss and add some music accompaniment. Its a tightly wrapped package of Horror talk perfect to listen to on a long walk, while you work out, on a car trip, whenever you have some time to listen. The whole point of the show is to get people interested in some of the great horror movies that they may have missed over the years. The hidden gems and fantastic genre titles.

Whether you've never heard of the movies we focus on or are battle hardened horror fans, if you enjoy podcasts you'll love this show. Its Horror 101: Educating Your Fears!!!

LIke us on Facebook, subscribe to us on ITunes. We'd love to get your feedback and suggestions. Here's our latest show featuring Creepshow (1982)....
