He saves a lot of time by not using gear, so he's only really safe for the few moments that he clips in along the way before unclipping and moving on. So much time is saved, in fact, that he was not only able to finish this in 2 hours and 20 minutes (a new record) but then go on to climb the equally large El Capitan and Half Dome as well, all within 24 hours. It's just about 7000 feet of climbing, 95% of which he did without any safety gear. I just wish youtube had more than teasers of this new footage. It's part of Honnold 3.0, a new movie that I got to see at the Reel Rock film tour. I'd highly recommend it and all of the other stuff if you have any means of seeing it.
