So I've been waiting for Thanksgiving to be over before listening to this album. Started off with "Christmas Unicorn" as per your suggestions. That song is super awesome, and boy that Joy Division really came out of nowhere.
It's music, there aren't spoilers!

I've waited til after Christmas, too, just to keep from going crazy. I put on christmas music, but more and more of the playlist is Mr Stevens. I've got 2 discs of Vince Guaraldi, 1 of Oscar Peterson, 1 of comedy songs, and 10 of Sufjan. Dude's monopolizing my holiday cheer.

Me and my girlfriend are going to see Jeff Mangum in January. I used to complain about how the guy should just write another album and stop touring the same small batch of songs, but drat it if I'm not excited to see this show. We're also seeing Dan Deacon in a couple of weeks and I've heard incredible things about his shows and his music is something incredibly pure and potent. His new album America is fantastic.

Yeah, five years from now I fear that I'm going to have 15 discs worth of Sufjan Christmas music to feel like I have to fit in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. That just seems stressful. But in a good way.

I saw both over the last few weeks, two incredible shows. Jeff played "Oh Sister" for what he said was the first time in 15 years, and Dan turned the floor of the Bowery Ballroom into a coordinated dance-off, human cyclone, and exploding group hug. Make sure to get the Dan Deacon smartphone app before the show starts, you'll need it when he plays True Thrush.

I've been listening to Monster Head Room by Ganglians for the past few days now (thanks to Last.fm), and it's really good. They're a throwback to 60s psychedelic rock/pop ala Jefferson Airplane, Velvet Underground, and Beach Boys--an influence that's thrown around a lot these days, but in this case it actually fits; the falsetto harmonies layered with random yelps, whoops, and whatever-the-hells sound a lot like Pet Sounds-era Beach Boys (and Ariel Pink), best exemplified on tracks like "Voodoo" and "Try To Understand", two gorgeous, blissed-out pop songs. The album is pretty varied, too, ranging from the aforementioned pop songs, to hypnotic psychedelic freak outs on "The Void" and "100 Years", to somber acoustic numbers with "To June" and "Modern African Queen". "Valiant Brave" may be my favorite, though, as it sort of incorporates all these things.

Yeah I could really go for a bit more Christmas music. Not some novelty version of Jingle Bells sung by a 5 year old, just, you know, music, that is about Christmas. This is my favorite holiday, and one of my favorite "yeah, this is where I want my life to be right now" moments is throwing on a little Christmas music, lighting a fire, and letting the tree and the fire (and the XBMC visualization) be the only light in the room.

Hell, suggestions? Are there Christmas compilations of indie pop bands that I don't know about?

The post-ST&C output has received a fair amount of valid criticism, but I can honestly say that I've never been disappointed by ToD album. Still, I certainly get where the disappointment comes from.

That said, have you listened to their new album Lost Songs yet? If you haven't I really think you should. It's probably the closest they've come to ST&C since, and it's pretty great in it's own right.

So i'm looking for this piece of music which got released around last fall and in which ~a well known band~ (by indie standards) uses the lyrics from the litany against fear of the Bene Gesserit in Frank Herbert's Dune series of books. I've been looking on google, stereogum, and have been asking to my friends, but none seem to be able to help.

Hence my asking to you, mighty goon-hivemind. Would anyone happen to have a link, please?

If you haven't heard of Radiation City they are a Portland indie group. They have a really unique sound. I saw them at the Crystal Ballroom opening for Menomena, fantastic act. They had a better sound than the new Menomena actually (since they split and Ramona Falls became about 20x as good, Menomena is a failure live. No energy.) Really mellow.

One of my favorite songs from their album is

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAWS7ImoWbA Color of Industry.

I'm not sure if Morning Teleportation counts as indie, it's more of Psychedelic Rock. Regardless they have a very eclectic style; I find they remind me of a faster paced Local Natives. A mix of reverbed guitar, electric breakdowns, and bitchin drums. Makes for a great band. Saw them at Misssissipi Studios in Portland and they were definitely hit and miss on their performance, but really high energy.

Every year it's the same poo poo. You hear the albums you hear, you don't hear the albums you don't, but then the next year comes. Are you like me? Do you end up starting fresh every year and never really getting to a lot of the music you meant to check out? I do it every year.

This year I decided to address it. I've listened to everything I thought looked interesting. I'm blasting through my 2012 backlog now. Anything I missed the first time around - OFF!, TNGHT, Ty Segall, Deerhoof, Crystal Castles. It's all here, it's all getting heard. Winamp tells me I have 23 hours of unheard music from this year, so I'll make it easily.

Anyway this long and rambling post is really just a cover to tell you all something.

Man, this Chairlift LP is loving bomb as poo poo. This is my jam. Soooo good.
