Thinking of it Im not sure if I usually get a post with that monitor. These days hardware is so fast that that you barely have time to see anything before Windows starts loading.

I brought my system to a technician today and we tried many things.

1. We tested with another monitor and still there was no signal on DVI, but we had a signal on VGA and the computer would boot normally (went on the desktop and whatnot). So that rules my monitor out as being the culprit.

2. We then tried each individual card in another machine, and they would have the same behavior (no signal, 100% fan speed constantly).

3. We then tested a random PCI-E card in my system and that card would output DVI just fine. Which means I didnt fry my PCI ports or my motherboard somehow.

So that leaves me with two dead 680 GTXes, one of which is brand new. What the hell. I still can't imagine they're fried or had a critical hardware failure. Would it be possible it might still be software related? Something with the bios they put on these cards loving up when I tried SLI? I've been using the first 680 since June and it worked perfectly fine before trying SLI, now both are dead.

Hopefully this won't sound patronizing, and assume you probably did, but you did turn the PSU off before putting the second card in right? I ask because once I was fiddling inside my machine, had it powered off but didn't actually switch the PSU off and got a nice smell of blue smoke (although luckily everything still worked fine).

Agreeing with dekks on ps issue. Sounds like you may have fried something. Or maybe it wasnt powerful enough to drive the two (I think 700 w)?

To Dekks: I did unplug the system and switch the PSU off before adding the second card. But I'm actually Im starting to think I hosed up when I first started powering the cards. I'm going to copy paste what I posted in my tech support thread because it might be higly relevant and in sync with that Dekks said.

"I recently switched from a 650w modular corsair PSU to another 750w modular corsair PSU. When doing SLI, I noticed I needed to add 2 more modular PCI-E cables to power it, and I used stupidly the cables that came from my old PSU (a single 6 pin connector that goes into the PSU and splits into 2 6 pin connectors) before rectifying the situation and using the cables that came with the right PSU (2 individual 6 pin to 6 pin connectors)."

I think 750w is enough for SLI, these cards arent as power hungry as they seem. I might have hosed them up with this cable stuff though. Modular PSUs be damned. I'm an idiot.

Accidentally replied your other thread instead of this :v:

You should always distribute the load on your PSU with multiple plugs instead of using a splitter and plugging it into one single port on the PSU anyway.

Also using the same cable from old psu might always be risky if they changed the pin out etc on the PSU itself. With a different pin, it means your cards will get fried as soon as you power it up.

It's ok, I wanted more exposure since I was pretty desperate. :)

I think I used not only the wrong cable, but also the wrong connector slot. The PCI-E connectors in the 750 PSU are coded blue and I used a black one. I just hope I didnt do any other damage. EVGA is offering me a RMA but I'm afraid it might happen again for some reason. I'll use the right connectors this time.

I've always loved tech demos. Even the most graphically intense production games generally use graphics techniques that were bleeding edge 5-10 years ago, and shown off in tech demos back then.

Here are some examples of older real-time tech demos that blew people's socks off when they came out, but would be pretty uninspired today:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJ0ycLo3PFM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv8cYrGG220

Even things as recent as a few years ago aren't all that impressive any more (but still really cool):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQMbFQVLhMc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Br3rMKApGNI

So, what's new? Well, here are a few of the best looking demos I've seen recently:

I'd love to see some other new stuff if I may have missed, if anyone knows of anything particularly impressive.

Don't get me wrong I love myself a good tech demo to flex my graphics card. But they rarely ever translate into "this is what future games will look like". They merely serve as a showcase of specific features new hardware have. Game engines today are more about scalability, and if the developer wishes, highend shader effects and textures.

What is becoming more popular now is modders taking the extra step to improve the graphics of their favorite games. Good examples high res texture packs and Post Process Injectors.

Hey goons! So I've recently built a new PC. I have a Sapphire 7870GHZ OC GPU (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1372&products_id=19778) and I'm experiencing poor (at least I think) performance in Sleeping Dogs and Saints Row 3 (the only two games I have atm, heh). I tried installing the updated drivers and I swear after I did that is when I started getting poor performance, but I'm not really sure how to fix it exactly.

For example, Sleeping Dogs used to run on high at ~60fps with some occasional dips to lowest ~50, but now on medium it runs at 60fps with somewhat frequent dips to 50fps and the occasional to 40fps. I mean I could be wrong and this is correct performance for the card and I guess that's fine, but it seems a little low to me.

If the rest of my specs matter they are:

i5 3570
H77M
8GB RAM
Also, running catalyst 12.10

Edit: monitor resolution is 1920x1080

Mine is working fine. I just pointed manually to the steamapps folder, ea games/origin folder, and the other games you want optimized.

Although i'd like to say that in borderlands 2, fullscreen windowed is the superior option.

No, you're buying used product just like from anywhere else. In the case of EVGA, you get the basic RMA-only warranty, not the one that applies to products purchased new.

Is this seriously a thing?

I'm actually in the middle of support and RMA procedures with MSI for one of my 7850s because I'm getting occasional warping polygons. I have one trouble-ish test case in Skyrim where I can get it to happen reliably when wearing a certain suit of armour... Also happens in Borderlands 2, incidentally both games are DX9. And it only seems to happen when in Crossfire, or in single GPU but only with one of the GPUs.

If it was happening on both GPUs I'd tend to lay the blame on drivers, since it does seem to have started after a particular driver upgrade, but it doesn't seem to happen on one of them. I'm going to have to put the "good" one back in and double check...

Edit: I captured a Youtube of this delightful GPU experience. Note that this is actually a really pathologic video capture, like the artefacts wanted to show off for the camera or something. It's normally more subdued but definitely noticeable.

Edit 2: Welp. Put the other GPU back in, loaded my Skyrim test case, same poo poo. Hooray ATI! :suicide:

Between that and the lovely driver russian roulette, I'm pretty sure this is the last time I'm using ATIs. I'd never had this much trouble with nVidias. I don't even know why I strayed from them at this point... Probably because of Fermi. But seeing as that's all over and done with...

With Skyrim I get graphical glitches and the stuttering unless I play the game in windowed mode then I just get graphical glitches.

And with that, I'll be switching back to nvidia when I upgrade again.

Can anyone help me figure out the difference between two different EVGA 660 ti cards -- the 660 ti FTW Signature2 and the regular 660 ti FTW?

I'm looking at them in a comparison chart on Newegg, and the only relevant difference I detect (with my admittedly untrained eye) is that the Signature2 has a slightly faster clock and 2 fans instead of 1. I assume this is slightly better. But also, it's $20 cheaper. Am I missing something, or is the Signature2 both slightly better and cheaper?

Jesus christ, every time I mention I go nvidia because they have good drivers with few serious problems and every ATI I've had has had obnoxious showstopping driver issues at some point I get "Gosh, this isn't 2003 anymore, Anna!" and then something like the above happens.

:colbert:

My 670 is still rockin' and the only issue I've had is with the old version of FFXIV crashing every few hours simply because they never bothered to QA with the 600 series because they were busy making an entirely new engine, the alpha version of which runs perfectly at max settings.

Just... ATI's drivers are bad. I hope they some day stop being bad but I haven't seen that happen yet.

I could use some help with a system I cobbled together recently. I'm running an old 6850 hooked up to a 1080p TV. I don't have an alternate monitor I could use for testing right now.

I'm having a problem with bunch of older games (see CoD screen cap below) where as soon as the game starts the TV seems to kick into 1024x768 while the game is actually rendering in a higher resolution, the result being that you can only see the top left corner of the image.

I've tried alt-tabing into Windows and changing the desktop resolution back to 1920x1080, then going back into the game, but it just reverts back.

As far as I can tell I've disabled all image processing/scaling on the TV. This is also only a problem on games that predate HD. I've tried playing with the "enable gpu scaling" and "enable ITC processing" options in Catalyst, but no dice. Any ideas?
