Itao could make a cameo as the fire chief, or someone needing to be rescued, or even the fire station dog with one of those creepy masks from Spy (Itao is the best guest star, I dare you to disagree)

Is this the right thread to gush about Yuusha Yoshihiko to Maou no Shiro? It's a super low-budget live-action drama based on the Dragon Quest games in which the hero Yoshihiko goes on a quest with some bros to kill the big demon guy. I don't want to spoil anything, but it's completely hilarious. It came out last Summer, but a fansub group picked it up recently and a second season just started. I guess technically it might belong in the tokusatsu thread, but I don't want to go back in there.

This was posted in late September, so maybe it's new: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MSSeI3iWVA It looks like an old, old Downtown segment where Hamada and Matsumoto have to shear sheep. A funny five minutes! is my review.

Just found out that Iron Chef is being revived. I am going to have to get my hands on this by hook or by crook (preferably in English, obviously, but I could very well watch this raw.) http://www.fujitv.co.jp/b_hp/ironchef/index.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Chef#2012_revival

The new Iron Chef has already begun to air and I didn't even realize it. Any thoughts on it so far? Edit: Found myself a copy of the first episode and skipped ahead just to see the take on "Allez cuisine!" Tamaki Hiroshi sounds like he's saying "Good gastronomy!" I like that they're changing it up and it emphasizes that this isn't Kaga's Kitchen Stadium, but I still had to laugh for a moment. Kimitsu fucked around with this message at 04:51 on Nov 16, 2012 |

I rather like it. The new kitchen stadium is loving swank, the competition remains essentially unchanged, and it's good to see Yukio Hattori back in the booth and the callbacks to the original Iron Chefs to connect the two series. I really need this in English, though. I'm so bad at parsing anything that's going on in foreign languages.

Hopefully the sub team that worked on Spy is going to be working on this year's game because they got it fully subbed fast.

It is not a monastery theme, actually. The theme will be teachers, more specifically "passionate/enthusiastic" teachers. The confusion came from the picture of the bus but apparently he's being portrayed as merely the founder of the school. That's a much better theme, honestly.

I'll agree that the teacher theme would be better than monastery. The No Laughing High School was one of my favorite games. Jimmy Onishi counting had me doubled over laughing.

Man Jimmy Onishi counting in english was the first Gaki clip I ever saw ages ago on YouTube, long before I even knew what it was or how to get more of it. I was just gonna post about being unsure about a monastery theme but teachers sounds great. I wonder if they're gonna do any callbacks to high school or maybe they'll do something with kids again. Depends on what kind of teachers they are and at which "school" I guess. I have no idea if naked little boys teabagging Hamada would still fly on (japanese) tv in this day and age but that was definitely hilarious and unexpected back in the 24 hour tag back in the day.

Here's something worth mentioning: In 2013, Yamasaki will quit using that name. http://www.tokyohive.com/2012/12/comedian-yamasaki-hosei-to-change-his-name-starting-in-2013/ As I understand it, a rakugo pupil will often take his master's name(I guess when the master bestows the chance) and so Yamasaki will do the same and be known as Tsukitei Hosei. He says he will integrate it everywhere in his career so I would be prepared to learn that name going forward if you plan to enjoy Downtown-related stuff in the future. I have absolutely no idea if that affects his personal life like his wife and kids or whether that's just his new stage name. e: and holy poo poo, Hey! Hey! Hey! just ended its 18 year run. They really must be gearing down and headed towards retirement. I'm going to be one sad guy the day Gaki no Tsukai ends. http://www.tokyohive.com/2012/12/hey-hey-hey-ends-its-18-years-of-history/ Crotch Bat fucked around with this message at 12:03 on Dec 20, 2012 |

I really wonder sometimes if Downtown has developed any sort of previously non-existent disorders or conditions from all the torture they've put themselves/each other through for comedy. I'd imagine being hit in the rear end all the time for years would probably make something weird happen to you.

I've been trying to find a comedy duo that I saw regularly on one of the evening comedy variety shows about three and a half years ago. Their shtick had them doing some goofy dance while chanting, "D-d-d-d-dancing, dancing! D-d-d-d-dancing, dancing! Kore mo, sore mo, are mo, dore mo! D-d-d-d-dancing, dancing!" then stopping, moving into character to do a quick joke often with some physical element, then going back into their chant. They'd do this a few times. Either my Google-fu is not strong enough to find them (I'm not sure of their name) or they just don't have much of a presence on the internet. If anyone has any leads, I'd appreciate the help.

That's been bugging me for years. My Japanese is pretty rough at this point so there was no way I was going to be able to search for it "properly" but since my teacher always drilled us on "kore, sore, are, dore" it was easy to remember their chorus. My host family would watch that variety show almost nightly, and even though I couldn't understand most of the jokes it was still pretty entertaining. That particular act stood out in my mind well after I went back home.
