This guy just died. He won the Medal of Honor when he pried a grenade out of the dead hand of his own severed arm and used it to kill Nazis.

After careful consideration (meaning that I got a single PM with a good point) I have decreed that you may post text in this thread to discuss pictures and youtubes. They must be military related and this thread will not be turned into yet another chat thread. You keep it on topic. If you poo poo it up or derail it intentionally you're still getting probated.

Navy's too pussy to put a modern DDG through anything resembling a realistic shock event; too many lives and too much money at stake. Kinda defeats the purpose of shock trials, but at least you can catch low-hanging fruit, I guess, and validate calculations used for barge testing equipment. Footage from when they close-harbor blasted the gently caress out of USS Osprey (first of a then-new class of minesweepers) in 1995 is pretty impressive, though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plAAuk9VwLs grover fucked around with this message at 17:10 on Dec 23, 2012 |

You're limited to (somenumber) of pounds of HE there, if you want to go bigger you need to be out at sea, which is what happened in the Churchill shock trials. Also, out at sea you don't have delays due to ospreys (real ones) nesting in your crane. This one, I wasn't involved in, and it's a good thing because the ship sunk earlier than expected and took all the data recorders and data down to the bottom with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFyt3bM_MJo

Some pics of the Russian assault on a tanker captured by pirates a few years back - this is the one they got in trouble for when they left the pirates on a boat with some food and water and set them adrift. http://russianpov.blogspot.ru/2012/12/liberation-of-tanker-moscow-university.html Sample pic, and a direct quote: "Weapons confiscated from pirates. Despite their looks, they were working." Crossposted from TFR, original post by Party Plane Jones.

I like how confused the Russians were about Khat. "Seamen said this piece of rope pirates were using as narcotic. Is it made from hemp?" Also, like half of the comments are people whining about weed legalization.

HATE CURES TRANNYS posted:Out at sea, salt air, no maintenance. Is it really surprising their AKs are rusted to hell? Yeah I get the severe corrosion, those things still look like they're covered in a veneer of poo poo. In other news: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Kazakhstan_Antonov_An-72_crash A Kazakh AN-72 ate poo poo while descending to land in Shymkent. One of my fav Soviet aircraft, because they actually operationally implemented something Boeing got stuck only developing. Included: An Airliners.net search with a shitload of pics I confuse the IL-76 and AN-72 all the time for some reason.
