Well what do you know, Tate somehow completely hosed up selling the Kraftwerk tickets! The website is down, apparently the phones don't work, and it seems no one knows if you can actually buy the drat tickets.

What a surprise! It's not like the exact same thing happened in both NY and Düsseldorf when the 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 tickets went on sale

e: "The Tate website is currently undergoing essential maintenance. The site will be back soon.

You can still:

Buy tickets"

:cawg: yep

e2: Yeah, just gently caress this. Not gonna happen. I didn't want to see Kraftwerk - one of my favorite bands/things of all goddamn time - perform one of their loving legendary albums in full and visit London while I was at it, anyway.

Guess at least Tate's inability to prepare for the massive demand and huge amounts of people crashing the poo poo out of their systems has saved me quite a bit of money I can spend on a new synth or something.

SIX HOURS LATER and the website is still down! I wonder if someone has actually been queuing for literally half the day for their tickets. Amazing.

Aaaaand the website is now working... but it's sold out, unsurprisingly! :smith:

Meh, I'm already booked for (at least) two festivals and some terrible pop music next year plus whatever bands come to Glasgow.

He was a great part of the live show. Not at all surprised though. The band kind of seems like it's fading away. The status of the genre at large probably doesn't help.

I didn't realise Kraftwerk touring was such a big deal. I did see them once in Toronto years back ... and fell asleep during Autobahn :shobon: (it had been a very very long day)

The version of Radioactivity was amazing though and I wish I could find a recording of it like how it was mixed for that show.

I think the live version they play nowadays has been in use for about the entirety of the 2000s, so it might be that. Two officially captured performances (English and German) of that live version exist on the fantastic live album Minimum Maximum - why not give it a go and see if that's what they played when you saw them

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5beWV8Wrwkc

I abso-loving-lutely love this version of Radioactivity and firmly believe it to be one of the best songs / things loving ever. Seeing it live in person was such an euphoric experience for me, I was just going :stare: :stare: :stare: for the whole song even though I'd seen the Minimum-Maximum performance about a million times.

Also, it's funny. Kraftwerk is one of those bands that not actually all that many people really know about, unlike other obviously extremely influential bands like the Stones or something (but if you're at all a music fan or aficionado type of person you'll know them), but if they play a show anywhere, a huge amount of motherfuckers will suddenly come crawling out the woodwork and the show will nearly certainly be sold out - even here in tiny ol' Finland.

Radioactivity is my favourite song, ever, and seeing it live pretty much brought tears to my eyes.

Heimstatt Yipotash do a great cover of it, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be anywhere online.

Seeing Kraftwerk live was kinda funny in some ways. A fair chunk of the crowd were middle aged guys, and many of them had brought their wives. They had obviously told their wives that it was "a concert, but not like a rock gig" so there were quite a few women kinda dressed up in nice maxi dresses with a pashmina and suchlike, all looking singularly confused and unsure what to expect and whether they were meant to Appreciate Some Culture as if this was a classical music concert or dance or just stand around rolling their eyes as their husband got excited about robots.

Someone (people involved in Club Antichrist in London, apparently?) is claiming to be putting on a 50,000 capacity outdoor goth/industrial festival in the southeast of England next year with a fairly ridiculous lineup already.

http://alt-fest.com/

I'd be surprised if they got even a tenth of that the capacity (unless the European types who go to festivals on the mainland come over to Blighty and every goth who has given up on the UK scene comes out) and am fully expecting all of the big names to cancel or turn out to be not actually confirmed or the whole thing to be made up. But it's nice to hope.

Leeds fest was 75,000 last year and that's almost become a rite of passage for 16 year olds to go and get ~so wasted~ on cider. Do they really think they'll get only 33% less people than one of the biggest festivals in the country? Christ.

I'm sure there was a promoter some years back who used to do one day festivals in London where some/all of the big names would either not turn up or not actually be booked at all, leaving the punters to watch the usual brit-goth/electro suspects who played at every single one of these things.

Don't get me wrong, a big outdoor festival in the UK with big-name acts would be great if it happened... but it seems singularly unlikely given that more mainstream outdoor festivals (the ones that aren't really really huge sell-out-in-minutes type events) are reportedly struggling.

I would say Prodigy were instrumental in spawning the whole dark electro movement - most of the people I know into industrial etc. are Prodigy fans. Sure it's poppy and mainstream, but there was always that undercurrent of dirt beneath everything.

Plus their live show is phenomenal - I saw them in December last year and have never been more afraid of a crowd in my life.

I'll bite. "Poison" was tolerable when played during .05 beer nights at the "EBM/Industrial" club back in the 90's. "Firestarter" was mildly entertaining the first time I saw the video because it was a right place/right time for Flint. That's where it ends. By the time Fat of the Land happened I never wanted to hear them again. :(

So, it's not a situation where I carry a divine hatred from the band. However, outside of a dark hall with strobes, fog, flashing lights, cheap drinks, and pasty chicks in faded Sisters of Mercy t-shirts I really never have a desire to hear a Prodigy song.

Welp, the snippets off the new Project Pitchfork album BLACK sound loving amazing :supaburn:

Seems like Spilles really needed the short pause from Pitchfork. Although it had a couple of really strong tracks, I thought Quantum Mechanics was a disappointingly mediocre and worryingly formulaic album after Continuum Ride which is probably my favorite Pitchfork album, but this sounding completely different, fresh, exciting and absolutely incredible again and might well end up being one of Spilles' best albums. I personally can not loving wait to get my hands on this :flashfap:

The Prodigy played at a summer festival here in Finland a couple of years back, I was there solely for them. It was my first Prodigy show, poo poo was loving crazy. Easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. However, I read a review of the festival where the reviewer didn't "get" Prodigy at all. They'd watched the show from like two hundred meters away from the stage sitting and sipping a beer or whatever. First mistake, what is that poo poo? The only way to see a Prodigy show is to be in the loving pit, dancing your goddamn face off and losing all your loose valuables and probably your shoes as well. And let's face it, you WILL be in the pit if you want to be, because at a Prodigy gig the pit is wherever the gently caress you start one.

edit: I've now seen two Prodigy shows and both times the crowd has been the most insane I've ever seen. That poo poo is seriously magical. Both concerts started with World's on Fire and from the very first note the entire goddamn crowd was bouncing and moshing and dancing and flipping the gently caress out and generally having the biggest party ever. It's amazing. You just don't see that anywhere else.
