All it does is annoy those of us who stay in shape, and frustrate those out of shape. And its usually some stupid loving Crossfit poo poo because my OC is a crossfit koolaid drinker.

Filthy reservist nonsenes? No way, 1 CER get's sports afternoon every wednesday. I'm pretty sure the PPCLI doesn't do anything except play sports. If you took away our sports I'm pretty sure 1CMBG would go on strike.

Then an hour of soccer, dodgeball, or floor hockey.

There's a reason reservists are looked down on, and the general pathetic level of physical fitness is chief among them.

As someone with six years in a reg force battalion and a seventh in a reserve "battalion" I'd say that it's probably moreso the optional training or not progressing past battle school skills. PT is just the icing.

Edmonton's not bad if you like living in the city. A lot of people live in small towns to the north as well. Have fun with your first Alberta winter by the way. It was already -30 when I left for Christmas leave.

MA-Horus posted:Then get the frustrated fatties to get back into shape, and sports night will be reinstated. "then get the frustrated fatties back into shape" doesn't just work like that. Physical fitness is something thats encouraged in a unit through leadership etc, and its also something thats enforced through policy. While the problem is fatties at the individual level, the error is on the lovely policy that exists. Currently in the Reserves, Class A reservists are not covered for injury for PT, because they recently changed the rules on BFT (you only ever have to do a BFT every year if you are going Class B or C), thus as a Class A reservist you're not "required" to do PT (even though if you're in a loving infantry unit it is pretty important). I myself got injured in sports for a year and a half, lost out courses and exercises and didnt get poo poo for my effort to stay in shape. So, ask me then, why should a Class A reservist get in shape anyways when there's no actual policy protecting him? What needs to be done for Class A reservists is 1.)Paid gym membership. $50 isnt a lot per month, but the idea that its available, for free, is a good motivator or access to weightlifting and gym equipment (I've heard of some units even going so far as having a paid, weekday half-night for PT every week where you can come in and use the gym equipment. This is a good idea) 2.)Liability protection for approved PT. If Im weightlifting or doing sports, I shouldnt have to worry about my summer work because I might get hurt and then, welp there goes my 4mths pay that I need. In the regular force this isnt a problem because you're paid either way, in the Reserves it is because its one of my sources of income. If there's no encouragement or protection, then no amount of stupid crossfit circuits or whatever every wednesday night is going to solve the huge problem of fitness in the Reserves. Dump it on individuals all you want, but that wont change anything.

Yeah I dont remember ever actually doing the trench-dig as part of the BFT. Only the ruck-march and fireman carry. Samu posted:From what I heard the ppcli just show up to pt, next timing 1000h, then work for an hour and a half, then sports or pts after lunch. Nope, at 0800 it's platoon PT if not Coy or Bn led. Sometimes I would let the other sections do their own PT while I took another section through weightlifting technique. I have seen some guys just starburst their guys but it's not that often. It's work the rest of the day, if individual troops have nothing to do they can do PT but they still have to be good to do something if needed. Only sports day for 1VP was Friday, or Thursday for 3VP. Even then it's only half the day and there isn't other pt scheduled on top of it.

My favorite part of that new PT video was the freeze frame once it loaded. Nothing screams 'universality of service' like that figure on the far left. Also, what happened in Edmonton? I have a couple combat arm type friends I might be able to shake down for info.

If your teeth are seriously crooked they might even pay for it. The only thing they ask is that you are not due to be posted in the next 3 years and that you don't plan on quitting the army while they pay for your braces. Whatever happen if your superior tells you that they don't want you to have braces because you won't be deployable anymore just call bullshit on it because you can be deployed. Even on tour, it just means you won't be able to go get them adjusted every 8 weeks, so basically you get them adjusted on your HLTA and then wait for when you're back.
