So much doom/stoner metal, so little time. When i got into this I had skipped over Sleep (Got into Electric Wizard, High on Fire, Baroness, and so on), now i'm obsessed with Sleep! I don't own a record player but I want to buy Dopesmoker on vinyl...

Just started listening to YOB Catharsis, any of their other albums near this good?

Is this the place to get excited for the new Cult of Luna album? I'm seeing them with Amenra later this month and I can't wait!

This isn't really sludge/doom but my friends have a band inspired by everyone's favorite killdozer building madman Marvin Heemeyer.

Don't know much about this genre really but I was surprised to see this band wasn't listed on the first page or so:

And I don't know if doomheads identify this as any kind of a seminal influence, but one of my favorites since 1995:

Anyone heard of Cultura Tres? They're a Venezuelan band, and they just released a new album. I saw them in a small pub venue in Essex, England and they were amazing. Also got to meet the guys afterwards as my friend interviewed them and they were really friendly on- and offstage.

Here's a song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-sbBlgC6KI

And here's the review/interview - http://metalrecusants.com/2012/11/16/live-report-cultura-tres-the-hole-in-the-wall-colchester-uk-15th-november-2012/

I just read the OP in its entirety - if it's still being edited, I'd like to add my band, if possible! Three piece stoner/doom, we have an instrumental demo on bandcamp - we go by Stone the Crows.

some shots from recent gig - all credit goes to Kate Syme Photography for these. I'm the fella with the Rickenbacker.

Listening to Mr.T on your bandcamp now. I'm pretty torn, on the one hand it's kind of good but unpolished. But on the other hand it feels very... rawish. Like you're just jamming and it's not going that well. It feels like you guys aren't that in synch. The intro feels kind of out of place since you drag the tempo down and the guitar solo is long and pretty unflattering.

I think you'd benefit from sitting down in a studio and polish the song for a while. It feels really unfinished.

I forgot to post that with my usual preface - that was a drunken jam with a guitar with bad intonation and a new-ish riff. We just put something up on the internet so people could hear what we sound like early on to get gigs, heh. It's working so far, although it's the roughest thing I play in that I've ever let be released.

It's generally much better than that - we have a 45 min length release coming soon that is much better, so if you enjoyed at least the idea behind it, a ball-crushingly heavy & tight version is coming soon. Facebook for any news.

In other news - Satan Worshipping Doom is up on the Bongripper bandcamp to listen for free at the moment! Ron says they're getting more vinyl pressed ASAP.

HNNNNNGG!!
Black Debbath has a new album out tomorrow.

:nws::nws::nws::nws::nws::nws::nws::nws::nws: for man nudity and statue tits.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgxLOgLDqmM

"Nĺ fĺr det faen meg vćre rock! Akademisk stoner-rock," which Google translates to "Now get the gently caress me be rock! Academic stoner-rock" but is apparently untranslatable due to it being a play on words; "nu fĺr det faen meg vćre nok!" translates to roughly "I have had enough, drat it" and there's no way to make the wordplay of "rock" make sense in English. [?]

A translation of the song names:
  • 1 Slaves of humor (Lars Payday)
  • 2 Norwegian Bjornson Research (holding internationally low level) (Egil Hegerberg)
  • 3 FAFO (Lars Payday)
  • 4 space debris (Aslag Guttormsgaard)
  • 5 Replace kitchen cloth often! (Lars Payday)
  • 6 Open letter to Professor Jon Bing in connection with the decision on the establishment of a Data Retention Directive (the noble intention of tyranny) (Lars Payday)
  • 7 No to jerking-off in the park! (Sculpture park song) (Lars Payday)
  • 8 nagging ballad that people bitch too much and make too much ballad (Lars Payday)
  • 9 Do Norwegian diplomatic enough for adventurers and criminals Norwegians abroad? (Egil Hegerberg)
  • 10 Drastic environmental measures in the twelfth hour (Lars Payday)
On Duplex Record's main page, translated from Norwegian to English, it reads:

quote:

Tomorrow (Wednesday, 01/09/2013), there are people meeting on academic stoner-rock at the House of Literature in Oslo Time. 12.00. To celebrate the release of Black Debbath new album "Now it loving be rock! Academic stoner-rock "invite the band to a panel discussion with a star-studded panel of sociologist and author Harald Eia, musician Knut Schreiner, leader of the future in our hands Arild Hermstad and head of department and VG comment earlier Gluecifer singer Frithjof Jacobsen. Under the supervision of the chairman Kristopher Schau, they discuss whether the stoner-rock is an expedient way to get changes in society. With musical examples from the new album, we discussed a number of interesting issues related to the fifth state's social mission. There is free admission and free brush.

Knut Schreiner, of course, is Euroboy from Turbonegro. Also, apparently Black Debbath and Truckfighters are touring around Scandinavia together?

Awesome.

If you aren't familiar with Black Debbath, you should be. Edit: Also, the singer is Ron Perlman's exact doppleganger.

Haha, auto-translate. Dude's name is Lars Lřnning, his last name is simply spelled the same as an idiomatic equivalent of "salary" or "payday". (Also his dad is this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inge_L%C3%B8nning -- now-retired theology professor, onetime rector of the University of Oslo, and national-level Conservative politician. And his uncle is this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Per_L%C3%B8nning - another retired theologian/conservative politician, former bishop, etc. Wonder what they think about the current generation's shenanigans.)

Other than that, the translation is clumsy but workable. This public debate meeting was a pretty cute PR stunt, they got some genuine talking heads to participate.

It also helps to be of about the same age as the members of the band and therefore having grown up with all the same cultural references and so on. What needs to be mentioned is that Black Debbath is only one (arguably the most successful) of a whole fuckload of bands that make up Duplex Records, which grew from the fertile soil of Gartnerlosjen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gartnerlosjen -- literally several dozen "bands" spanning many diverse genres, consisting of slightly different reshuffled combinations of a much more limited number of musicians (many of whom appear in different roles in different bands, and also using different fake names just to add to the confusion). Some of these bands are entirely fictional, some of them only exist in the sense of the members of another band dressing in different costumes and doing a couple of songs in a different genre during a single concert one time, and some of them exist in the sense of a multi-album discography published over the course of a decade or more. Out of the lot, the band that has attracted most international attention is probably Hurra Torpedo (which in typical Duplex Records fashion consists of two of the same guys who are in Black Debbath, and a third guy who is in a bunch of the other bands):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysUjYAi0WcQ

At least one other of the Duplex Records bands is actually relevant to this thread, I speak of course of Thulsa Doom, which is also arguably the least comedic of the whole lot (despite a tendency to complete absurdity in song titles and lyrics): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-foa9II-jT0
