I've got a friend who loves that movie. Funny, since out of that group he's the only one who hasn't been to Thailand.

That last one is kind of nice as it (though badly) implies an island paradise as someones dream, or nightmare.

First poster looks like a coming-of-age film, second looks like a tropical Devil's Advocate, third looks like a plain old mystery film. They sure have cast their net wide.

I was getting more of an Apocalypse Now vibe, which is entirely appropriate for The Beach. Not to imply it's anywhere near as good as Apocalypse Now, but it has a similar "jaded man goes through hell in a beach/jungle setting" motif.

(Yes, I know there's a lot more to Apocalypse Now than that...)

It bridges the gap between Titanic and Inception. It's not strictly speaking a necessary part of the overall story, but it helps with context.

Some cool old European posters I've been pining after for ages:

Swedish poster for Frankenstein, obviously. Really atmospheric.

German poster for The Seven Samurai. I absolutely love this one, but I don't really know why, exactly. It should be drab, but somehow it works and it's really striking and distinctive instead.

That's fun too.

My question is: before and after what? What precipitated the change? Did they need to market it as a more 'actiony' film, or was it an attempt to disguise Sigourney Cleavage?

I like the first one better because Alan Rickman is holding his gun backwards.

The second is a perfect representation of the movie but for none of the reasons the people who edited it intended. Which makes it even better.
