Preoptopus posted:"There are but three true sports--bullfighting, mountain climbing, and motor-racing. The rest are merely games." type550.com posted:Chassis No 550-08 was assigned the race car number 351 with Herrmann behind the wheel, together with Porsche racing engineer Herbert Linge for the Mille Miglia on May 2, 1954. Shortly after the start of the race on the outskirts of Brescia, another piece of motoring history involving a spyder was written. Whilst coming out of a sharp bend travelling at high speed, the team saw a level crossing barrier being lowered before the fast train to Rome passed through. Driving the very low Porsche 550 spyder, Herrmann decided it was too late to brake, so he knocked on the back of the helmet of his navigator and they both slid deep into their seats, barely passing below the gates seconds before the oncoming train. The Porsche’s amazing average speed of 126.79 km/h (78.78 mph) was a convincing performance for the Hermann/Linge team to win the 1954 Mille Miglia in the 1500 class and 6th overall.

He's gonna be pretty pissed when his 3 year old smashes his fancy LED headlights into walls in his house because it's fun. There's a reason kid's toys are made of lovely cheap plastic and rubber. But that's all very impressive. If I had his skills I'd just make my own full size car. The kid would be just as happy playing with the boxes all the parts came in.

If I were to guess how much all of that would cost to custom build, assuming it was a retail purchase, I would put my guess right around $20,000. The CF shell being the most expensive part. A full size car of that build quality would be through the roof.

Judging by the look of his house and the fact that he spent $20,000 on a toy that his toddler will outgrow in 6 months after smashing it into stuff, I figure he can probably swing the price tag.

You Am I posted:That's pretty bloody impressive. I wonder what the brake setup is on that truck Probably some bigass air disc brakes up front and back, with an abs controller and a dedicated air reservoir for the rear axle. All the more impressive when you consider that all that braking force is traveling through solid axles front and back, suspending on only leaf springs in front, and with combination leaf member / air springs in back.
