I actually owned that before I got my current Ergotron mounts. It is a totally serviceable mount but really the kind of thing that you set up and don't really adjust. If you are looking for something you will move and adjust regularly you will be disappointed.

I can appreciate this sentiment, but I just want to say that it IS possible.

Then again, I went from two 17" monitors to a single 24" monitor, so it was still an upgrade in some senses.

But with Windows 7's snap feature (I sound like the adverts) putting two windows side by side on one monitor isn't difficult, and since it's widescreen you're not missing out on a lot of screen space.

Six monitors, for work or just geek-room-improvement? I would love 6 monitors, but I cant really see the use of more than two (three in the case of eyefinity and so on) being practical for general use other than multi-client-gaming

To me, Winsplit Revolution is a program that is every bit as tied to the experience of using Windows as the taskbar. It's a simple little program that easily allows you to have more than two windows open on your screen at once without the desktop looking like it got hit by a tornado.

For me, I took the following grid of letters on the keyboard:

QWE
ASD
ZXC

Then I bound them so when I hit any one of them while also holding Ctrl+Alt, the window in focus moves to that relative part of the screen. Ctrl+Alt+Q for top left, Ctrl+Alt+S for center, etc. Pressing the same button multiple times cycles through as many settings for that button as you want.

Love that program.

Does anybody know if a monitor stand exists for this kind of setup:

Alternatively, I've already got a dual monitor stand, but I can't seem to find any stands that would allow a 27" monitor to peek out above two 24" monitors in portrait.

Just downloaded Gridmove, it works for me. Didn't bother reading the instructions; I just jumped directly to enabling "4-part" grid and disabling drag by middle mouse button. That's all I need: Snapping windows to the corners of the screen.

On googling I found an alternative called AquaSnap that apparently runs on even less memory (~1mb compared to ~2.5mb for GridMove). Couldn't be bothered trying but it's something to consider.

If you can sit so your elbows are level with your wrists while using it, put the front stand back on the keyboard. Took me a while to get used to but it really is better.

In other news, rear kickstands are the devil's work.

If it where me I might try that tower holder that Ikea made for Jerker desk and mount the receiver vertically on the side of the desk. Or get a better monitor hutch and put it below the monitors. Or attach it to the underside of the desk, just leave enough of a gap between the top of receiver and the bottom of the desk to let it vent.
I'm going to stay away from mounting the receiver on the desk because the desk's motor's already struggling a bit. The more weight I have on the desk, the slower it will lift - this is one of the reason's the center speaker's no longer on the desk.

Largo Usagi posted:

If that receiver is the same width as rack mountable audio equipment you could get mount brackets for it and attach it to an IKEA Lack table.

That is an idea of what it could look like, they are nice for use in cleaning up an office and providing more functional space will storing some hardware.
Nice - I might order that from Ikea. It would look nicer, and I'd have more table space to work with.

I respectfully disagree. I had two 20 inches side by side for most of my college life, but afterwards I bought an awesome 30inch monitor and its infinitely better not having a bar dividing the screen directly ahead of you.

I would say that depends on the needs of the individual, one larger monitor can do something two smaller monitors can't and vice versa

Yeah, I'm really liking that stand. I don't really need to move my monitors a lot., so it's a good alternative to spending $200 on a damned Ergotron mount.

I'm actually starting to miss some of the smaller size monitors. If there was an ips monitor I could have put in portrait mode beside my U2412 I might have just stuck with 24" and maybe a smaller 17" for chat windows. As it was I went to a 27" monitor.
