It's interesting to see the changing makeups of UNIFIL over time, especially the presence of countries you'd never think of having active military roles. Ghana, Ireland and Fiji were all major contributors in the early years. Not really related but here's a clip of the first time the USMC showed up in Lebanon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwOTUzACmRQ (i would kill the sound).

Here's a great video from Syria showing a bomb release https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X96x1q0hhK0 Videos like these actually represent a shift in the conflict. Earlier on in the conflict jets never released flares, and then as the opposition captured more air defence bases and released videos of themselves wielding MANPADS more and more videos showed jets releasing flares as they dropped their bombs.

Oh hey, it only took them a year of fighting to actually read their tactical manuals.

Brown Moses posted:Here's why it's a good idea to protect tanks with infantry in urban areas What exactly even happened there? From your post and the first watch, I figured the tank was destroyed from an external charge deployed on the lower hull in the back with a following cook-off on the inside and the guy who deployed the charge somehow surviving the premature blast and then running away. But then it looks like the explosion is on the side of the tank oriented toward the camera and the guy running away appears to be blown off the tank just before the cook-off. And why would the tank fire at the same time as the explosion, any chance this was an internal explosion?

You can just make out a projectile hitting the rear of the tank, the blast from which appears to cause the main gun to fire.

Yikes. I would say he was ejected, you can see him off the back deck just as the rounds cook off.

I was gonna guess sleeping under the rear of the vehicle, given the state of undress and (I assume) serious unlikelihood of surviving that if he was in or on the tank.

It's entirely possible that his clothes were blown off in the explosion.

Do russian tanks operate on one part or 3 part ammunition? If it was three it could explain this.

Haha! I remember doing this when I was serving my conscription in the K9 unit. It scary as gently caress the first time and i understand the guys expressions perfectly. Especially when we practiced with only a padded sleeve on one arm. EDIT: That dog hes training with is a Malinois, and they are batshit INSANE. In a good way. They go all in all the time, if you train them well they can stop on a dime, and do whatever you want them to. Not a good family dog, but a really good service dog. Holy poo poo that tank cookoff. I guess the best thing you can say is at least it was over fairly quickly for the crew.

Aren't soviet tanks pretty infamous for the ammo cooking off due to storing ammo in the floor of the turret? I'll edit this post once I find the relevant section of the book I was reading on it. EDIT: T-72s (not sure if that was a 72 or not) store ammo inside the turret so this sort of thing is pretty much inevitable on a good hit it seems.
