In looking up that (I never knew but yeah, can see it's a blue version of their 'All The Great Hits') I found this article about the making of the country album. A great read.

http://tasteofcountry.com/ween-12-golden-country-greats-interview-ben-vaughn/

They took it even more seriously than I imagined. Deaner only plays guitar on one song, and then it's just the solo.

Deaner recently posted about boredoms on his askdeaner.com site and said this

At the time not a lot of people knew their music stateside, but the singer of the the band Yamatsuka Eye had released a solo album full of samples of “The Pod” so we knew he was a fan.

Does anyone know what album he is talking about? I've been trying to figure it out but can't seem to find it.

Going through Eye's discography, the only releases that I haven't heard personally that line up in the 91 to around 92 Pod era are three Audio Sports albums: 3-6-9, Eat+Buy+Eat and Era of Glittering Glass.

Edit: not it.

I think it could be Aids-A-Delic but I could be completely wrong. It came out in 94, between The Pod and Z-Rock Hawaii, so that might be a good place to start.

Oh. I figured the "it'll be released soon" meant it was actually recorded in August.

He was on Bullseye with Jesse Thorn (podcast) for about 5-10 minutes talking about some Bob Marley song he liked when he was a kid. Other than that, nothing I know of.

Former Ween member Mickey Melchiondo sets sights on reality TV stardom

quote:

The ex-guitarist of the band Ween and lifelong Jersey Shore fisherman is prepping to shoot a pilot for a quirky TV series about saltwater angling. He's going to embark on nautical adventures with fellow musician and fisherman Les Claypool of Primus.

And produced by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Later pressings of The Mollusk on Plain Recordings were black. You should be careful with them though, from what I understand their vinyl reissues are sourced from the CDs, not from the master tapes.

Nan and Waving my Dick were added. Bummer the sound is lacking a bass presence. Also someone should have told the annoying girl in the audience near the camera to shut up. I hope she sees these and realizes how dumb she sounded.

It's weird to see them playing with a DAT in 1996. That show was from April. Only six months later they were doing the shows which wound up on "Live in Toronto" with the poo poo Creek Boys. The Brunswick shows seem like amateur hour compared to the polish of the Toronto album. Maybe it's the sound quality.

Yeah, they just look younger than I always envisioned them being then. I started to get into them around the mid-90s but that was over half a lifetime ago. It's just odd to see them doing The Mollusk and being on the wrong side of my age.

Nice groove.

I found a copy of the Grand Royal release of 'Chocolate and Cheese' on vinyl in a local record store second hand for about $10 the other day so picked that up. Sounds great! And then found that I could get the Chocodog version of the 'Quebec' 12" from amazon.co.jp so should have that in a day or two. As my favourite of theirs I'm pretty happy to have that on its way.

The Internet seems to hate anything released on Plain Records, which seems to be just about the only way to get things like 'White Pepper'.. does anyone here have experience of their Ween pressings and if they are any good? I picked up their releases of the Sparklehorse albums and they sounded alright, but a bit flat and were missing odd songs here and there and other weird choices. Apparently they source the sound from CD for their pressings, and if I can tell the difference on my crappy speakers I don't really see the point in getting their stuff any more.

Woah, how did I not know there was a ween thread!? I have Several of their releases(White Pepper, The Mollusk, CC, and 12 golden) Got them so I could stash my originals away for safe keeping and still get my ween on. I think they sound Great. Hardly notice any difference, although its been a while since I've listened to my first pressings. But yeah, I'd recommend them. Nice heavy vinyl and cool colors too. Not sure where to buy them any more though, but they're worth it If you can Find em at reasonable price.

For the sake of conversation, favorite live shows anyone? some of mine are:
Live at 40 Watt Club on 2011-04-15 badass hard rockin show. Some great Shinola tunes.
Live at The Point on 2002-02-21 Amazing, Amazing Acoustic show
Live at The Wetlands on 1991-10-12 Really fun early poo poo. Super brown Tender Situation.
Live at Bonnaroo Music Festival on 2004-06-13 Best Ooh Va La ever complete with sick fuckin guitar solo as well a great poopship jam.
Live at The Orpheum Theatre on 2003-10-03 Probably the best quality bootleg you'll ever hear.
Any show from their 96 country tour with the poo poo Creek Boys is a winner. country fried Ween=Awesome.

Sweet, picked up 'The Mollusk' and 'White Pepper' from Amazon(.co.jp). They seem to be back in stock on Ween.com if anyone else wants them, but international postage is a bitch for me, and Amazon had the Schnitzel records release of 'Shinola Vol 1' so got that too, and that's still out on Ween.com.

Can't really comment on live shows, as I don't remember which is which. If it's on YouTube or somewhere like that, then their Halloween shows are hard to top.
