What are those speakers and how are they?

They are pretty old now but the are JBL Creature II's that I've had a few years now.

They are pretty good for the size, have a pretty good range on them and they have a sub to give the low end a boost which is under the desk.

Has anyone tried to mount a triple monitor stand on a Ikea Vika table? I'm wondering if the honeycomb design inside the table is strong enough to hold the weight of three monitors in one spot.

With a dual mount and two 24"s the Vika Amon sags from the weight. This can be offset by placing an extra leg in the back. I'd just spend the extra cash and get one of the solid Vika tops like the Furuskog or Byske - the quality difference is night & day.

Damm, but i suspected they would. Thanks for the tip, think i will pay some more and go for the Vika Byske :)

Best mouse ever. Lost my weight tray for it a few years ago when I moved though :(

Seriously thinking about going on ebay and picking up a new one for when this one dies and new/good condition ones are no longer available.

What desk is that? It's probably just the effect of the lighting in that photo, but it looks really cool. It is a glass top, yes? Do you think the glass is thick and sturdy enough to handle a monitor arm?

Looks like the regular ikea Galant with chromed legs and black glass top. You can also get a milky white glass top. I have the same desk, it rules.

Only thing that suck about it i that I can't figure a way to mount two monitors to the desk because of the glass.

What do you mean by that? Is there no space or can the glass just not support two monitors.

no there is plenty of space, its just i am weary of the glass busting when clamped down with the weight of two monitors. Some people spread the weight distribution from the clamp by using a piece of wood, but that generally looks like crap and defeats the purpose of having a sleek desk.

Awful picture but I just wanted to show that I was able to mount an Ergotron LX just fine on the glass... now one day it may just spontaneously explode but it has been a few weeks and so far, so good.

I have the same mount. The only thing that sucks about using it this way is you can't move the monitors back very far since the arms will smack into the wall.

I have a wooden desk and opted to drill through the middle so I could put the mount in a spot with more range of motion.

Depends on how you like your monitors positioned, though.

Interesting. Are you using anything to support the clamp? I might just copy your idea as long as the glass keeps it sturdy. What size are your monitors? I would ideally like to use your set up with a Dell u2410 and 27inch korean monitor, if the it would support the weight...

Yeah, it's kind of annoying but I find that I am able to get them out of the way if I need to by either pushing them far off to each side or up higher and back. I really don't move them around all that often, I find myself flipping one vertical more than anything.

I am not currently using any support for the clamp, just a piece of cardboard on the bottom of the clamp because I didn't want it scratching the glass (scratches to tempered glass can ruin its integrity or so I read) but I may consider putting a piece of thin wood on the bottom to spread it out a bit more -- although I'm not sure it is necessary. My monitors are two cheap ASUS VH236H 23" which according to the spec sheet weigh 12.1 lbs each, so maybe if I were to get a bigger/heavier monitor I would consider mounting it differently.

The glass is reasonably thick and sturdy and I don't see any signs that it is stressed by the weight.

You wouldn't see any signs of stress with tempered glass, just *POP* *SMASH* and your desk is now a million individual little pieces of glass and the edges of those monitors are headed straight for your balls.

At least, that's my nightmare scenario. I'm considering doing the same with an iMac and my white glass Galant at some point soon.

This guy is my hero: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/terrys-glass-expansedesktops---161685

Looks like he used wood on the bottom of the glass to make it thick enough for his Ergotron MXes to clamp.

For those with glass desks wouldn't something like this be a good compromise?

I would never trust something that doesn't clamp onto my desk to hold dual 27"s. It wouldn't take much of an earthquake to knock that tiny-rear end base over with 50 pounds of monitors attached.

Some stands actually can fit 3x27" even though their specifications often state something else. For example: The Ergotech triple LCD Desk Stand actually can mount 3x27" monitors.

You're right, but at least if it does randomly explode one day I'll be able to get a desk that can actually be kept clean and doesn't collect dust immediately. Gotta look on the bright side!

Like Bonobos said, it's the Galant with chrome legs & black glass top, though it feels sturdy enough with both screens on it the glass is quite thin, I'd be worried about clamping, I like the idea of some of the suggestions here of a stand rather than a clamp.

I have a regular desk using T-legs and they rock a bit if you push the desk around pretty hard. Though it's only enough that small, light, unstable objects could get knocked over. Still, it can be distracting and a little disconcerting. Since I game on the desk and have rather unrefined motor control, I would go with A-legs next time even if they're more difficult to adjust.

I just got a Galant with T-legs last weekend and it's rock solid. I did get the corner version so maybe the third T-leg helps out, but it takes effort to rock the thing.
