Yeah, our boss could stand some formatting poo poo. The **CAPITALS AND ASTERISKS** are completely fuckin' weird and not welcoming whatsoever. I drafted a letter about how to improve the company and I'll throw that in there as well. He's doing 3 interviews tomorrow, so people must be hard-up for stuff. As far as pay goes, there's a LOT of work to do, but it's nothing terribly difficult. I'd ballpark the wages around $17~$20/hour depending on experience. It's not just the formatting though. For example, "If you don't want to work in Minneapolis then gently caress you!" or whatever it says should probably be more like "This position requires working from our head office in Minneapolis, and while we don't have funds available for relocation assistance for this opening, all applicants are welcome." or something. Try to explain a little more about the company atmosphere, and/or what kind of candidate you're looking for personality-wise rather than saying what you are NOT looking for.

I am working on a Software Engineering degree @ the Rochester Institute of Technology and I need 40 weeks of co-operative education (just paid internships w/ reports back to the school about whatever) to even be able to continue to my senior year. I'm a junior right now and I literally need to find one for next month oh god. I've been applying to a bunch of places over the past year but have only gotten a single interview My experience: I've worked with both O-O and functional. I am extremely proficient in Java and Python, and have basic proficiency in C, C++, Ruby, Actionscript, and CSS/HTML (not HTML5, though). I've worked with database and web systems, including SQL and Ruby on Rails. I have also done a great deal of work with the Promela and Alloy modeling languages. I've been attending school for three years now and have a pretty large set of completed (large) school projects, most Java-based. I have done extensive GUI work in Swing/AWT, including a few personal projects that I am currently working on. I am willing and able to dedicate myself to learning anything required in my spare time. In fact, I love new stuff! My only dev "job" outside of school was volunteer work on a pretty large MOO (MUD, Object-Oriented) which required me to pick up and work with a completely new language. I mostly worked on bug fixes to core systems and ancient code, and developed a few of my own. I had to be on top of everything I was doing, as any change could introduce defects across a massive library of related objects. And probably unlike some MUDs and most MMOGs all development was live, while the server was running. What I'm looking for: Development or test. Web/mobile apps, database systems, etc. What I'm NOT looking for: A non-dev/test position. Where I live: Rochester, NY. Where I'm looking: Rochester area, Albany/Schenectady. Out of NY I can do CT or Mass. These are preferred locations; I can work anywhere and I wouldn't be adverse to moving for a while. When I can start: I can start the week of Feb. 24 or March 3. My finals end on the 22nd, so as soon as those are done pretty much. Requirements: It needs to be paid (entry-level acceptable), full time, and has to relate to SE is the only requirement from RIT. Requirements from me are it has to be 6 months from March-August or 3 months from March-May. If pressed I could do Summer instead, but I planned my schedule around the change to semesters next year and have no idea what I would have to take if I can't get something for Spring, or if the classes would even be available. I'm looking to relocate closer to my family near Charlotte, NC My experience: I am currently a senior tier 2 firewall support for a large managed security services provider. I have been here nearly 5 years. I have experience with: Checkpoint; Juniper netscreen and SRX; Cisco Pix, ASA, FWSM, switches, routers and light experience with ACE modules; Fortigates; Lucent Brick; and light experience with F5S. Experience includes software upgrades, rulebase editing, and mostly troubleshooting customer issues. I've worked on everything from on site firewalls to large network based firewalls for one or multiple customers. I have multiple government trust waivers for my current job and would have no problem getting them again. My strongest area is TCP/IP troubleshooting on multiple platforms. I'm currently working on a crowdfunding campaign which I'm not quite ready to throw the towel in for yet, but I need to hedge my bets if that doesn't work out, so I'm looking for work. My experience: My primary experience is in all levels of web application development for my own projects. My main projects were two non-trivial web applications, a server based application written in Python using Django, and a client based offline application using Coffeescript and AngularJS. Hands on self taught network administration including ASA. Was senior systems administrator for the last 3 years. What I'm looking for: I prefer infrastructure management for virtualiziation and SAN management but am a very competent systems administrator. What I'm NOT looking for: Entry level administration. I have a half-rack in my home office doing just about anything I find interesting (I like nice hostnames, so I run bind. A multisite VPN and routing, why not? OpenBSD firewalls, ESXi, nfsv4, etc). Lately I've been interested in picking up some more networking knowledge. Usually if I'm not totally familiar with something, I'll set it up at home and break it instead of your systems. I'm currently doing sysadmin work at a small college. Linux servers, scripting Windows desktop deployments, monitoring with nagios, firewalls, layer 2 and some light programming (python). Unfortunately this involves some desktop support and isn't really going anywhere. Previously I've worked at web hosts and an MSP doing mostly the same vein of stuff. What I'm looking for: I want to work with a group of talented sysadmins doing interesting work. I'm a quick learner and I adapt very quickly to new systems. Here are some other things I've been interested in lately or would love to learn:

I am currently the sole IT guy for a non profit senior services organization in Los Angeles, CA, and for personal reasons I'll be vacating my full time position next month, towards the end of April. I will be guiding the hiring process, providing input into the final selection process and will be involved as a resource and as volunteer beyond my official end date. It's really important to me that we find a reliable, personable and professional person or persons to assume my duties, and despite my better judgement I'm gonna post this here and maybe someone will see it. My replacement is going to need superhuman patience. Different City and State agencies conduct multimedia presentations in our buildings regularly, so AV experience is a big plus. Social workers depend on our networks to provide service to a lot of disabled or infirm people, so dependability, quick problem solving skills, and a penchant for redundancy and reliability in network configuration and maintenance is absolutely necessary. If systems fail too hard, and don't have a failover, lots of very nice people can't access the services on which they depend to eat, sleep and get medical treatment. This is not a laid back or lassaiz faire situation, but it's immensely rewarding to be involved. Our organization is very old and well known in LA and we're coming out of a contraction phase (thanks, recession!) so the future looks good for expansion and growth. I'm vacating the position because I live too far away and can't swing the commute any more. This has been the most satisfying but challenging work I've ever done, but it's time to step aside and assume a more limited support role while I pursue other life stuff. I will be involved in creating documentation, continued training / support and emergency response stuff until everything is settled. I will be involved on a volunteer basis for technology classes and outreach - it's how I got involved, and it somehow snowballed into assuming all IT duties from their previous 3rd party IT firm who was basically defrauding them. I've just received word that a member of my team has taken a position out of state and will be leaving us shortly. We've not yet received approval for re-posting the position, but given the role I am hopeful that we will be able to re-hire. This will be a Systems Administrator position; principal Linux admin supporting Wordpress and cPanel. This position will also include network security responsibilities across three buildings - primarily Fortigate firewalls. Our infrastructure is almost 100% virtualized on Vsphere 5.0(moving to 5.1 in the coming months). Experience with Netware/OES2 would be a plus. Who we are: internal IT department for a College at a large public University located in Athens, GA. We're responsible for everything IT inside the building edge except for some campus wide critical services, e.g. email. We serve 200 faculty, 400 staff and thousands of students at both the graduate and undergraduate level. I'll post more details when/if we the position is approved. This position will report to me and I will have final say in candidate selection.
