Who we are: A small to mid-size business consulting firm in Minneapolis, Minnesota going through growing pains (too many tickets, not enough techs). https://www.techgen.com (excuse the site, we're working on it).
What we want: We're looking to fill 3 positions: Remote Management Maintenance Lead (link), Tier-2 help desk, and Tier-1 help desk. We deal with a motherfuckton of tickets and phone calls and we need all hands on deck. We manage, as mentioned, small to mid-size businesses (5 to ~70 users), Windows SBS, in-house Exchange and hosted, Server standard here and there, and everything that desktop support comes with.
Compensation: based on experience. I make $14 after ~1 year in the company with zero previous experience, so if you've got a good tool belt and a decent resume, ask for what you want. Our boss is a very reasonable guy and pretty darned cool to boot.

Please email me with requests for more information (adam son of peter at gmail dot com); we need more bodies and what's more we need quality ones. He's willing to pay for quality and for people who will stick it out with us for the long term. More details if you ask; not sure what to include since I've never written a classified ad before!

As others have said, that Craigslist post is awfully combative. I'm sure you guys have been getting resumes by the boatload, but I can't help but wonder if the tone isn't turning off qualified candidates.

That position sounds right up my alley, with my absolute adoration of GPOs and all. Shame I'm stuck in Syracuse, New York for another year or two.

Yeah, our boss could stand some formatting poo poo. The **CAPITALS AND ASTERISKS** are completely fuckin' weird and not welcoming whatsoever. I drafted a letter about how to improve the company and I'll throw that in there as well. He's doing 3 interviews tomorrow, so people must be hard-up for stuff.

As far as pay goes, there's a LOT of work to do, but it's nothing terribly difficult. I'd ballpark the wages around $17~$20/hour depending on experience.

It's not just the formatting though.

For example, "If you don't want to work in Minneapolis then gently caress you!" or whatever it says should probably be more like "This position requires working from our head office in Minneapolis, and while we don't have funds available for relocation assistance for this opening, all applicants are welcome." or something.

Try to explain a little more about the company atmosphere, and/or what kind of candidate you're looking for personality-wise rather than saying what you are NOT looking for.

Yeah, my bad, I didn't convey that I know what everyone's concerns here are (outside of the 90's-AOL-chat-room formatting) :). I've brought up your criticisms to the boss and offered to "warm up" the postings a bit.

edit:

Here's what I sent to him and what you all may as well have seen:

Who we are:
TechGen Consulting is a small- to medium-business IT consultant that has served clients in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area for 15 years. We have a small yet dedicated staff who handle day-to-day desktop troubleshooting, as well as upper-level support for all types of Windows servers and all types of networks. We pride ourselves on client satisfaction. We enjoy spending time with our clients to better know them and their goals, and how we can best assist them in reaching their full potential.

Who we are looking for:
A Remote Maintenance Technician who has experience with:
• Remote management systems (Kaseya, GFI MAX, etc)
• Remote backups (via RMM, Replay, cloud storage, etc)
• Active Directory
• Group Policy administration
• Scripting (VBScript, PowerShell, batch files, etc)
• Certifications in any of the above fields will help get your resume to the top of the list
Our clients are quite diverse in their fields as well as their environments; flexibility is key!

Our office is conveniently located in the north east Minneapolis area near bus lines, and not too far away from bike trails. We require that all employees be in the office. We work as a team and find that having everyone in one place makes for easier communication and teamwork.

Please submit .pdf or .doc(x) resumes (complete with cover letters) to:

Add “February 2013” to the subject line to ensure that it lands in the correct folder.

We’re looking forward to adding to our team and hope to hear from you soon!

PS: Those with dog allergies; Howie the Labrador makes frequent appearances in the office, and is quite friendly.

Yeah, sorry, it looks like the C position is currently for senior level. It changes depending on what the bossman needs and didn't think to check this time. The number's not a strict requirement, but you do have to be senior level.

I am working on a Software Engineering degree @ the Rochester Institute of Technology and I need 40 weeks of co-operative education (just paid internships w/ reports back to the school about whatever) to even be able to continue to my senior year. I'm a junior right now and I literally need to find one for next month oh god. I've been applying to a bunch of places over the past year but have only gotten a single interview :(

My experience: I've worked with both O-O and functional. I am extremely proficient in Java and Python, and have basic proficiency in C, C++, Ruby, Actionscript, and CSS/HTML (not HTML5, though). I've worked with database and web systems, including SQL and Ruby on Rails. I have also done a great deal of work with the Promela and Alloy modeling languages. I've been attending school for three years now and have a pretty large set of completed (large) school projects, most Java-based. I have done extensive GUI work in Swing/AWT, including a few personal projects that I am currently working on.

I am willing and able to dedicate myself to learning anything required in my spare time. In fact, I love new stuff!

My only dev "job" outside of school was volunteer work on a pretty large MOO (MUD, Object-Oriented) which required me to pick up and work with a completely new language. I mostly worked on bug fixes to core systems and ancient code, and developed a few of my own. I had to be on top of everything I was doing, as any change could introduce defects across a massive library of related objects. And probably unlike some MUDs and most MMOGs all development was live, while the server was running.

What I'm looking for: Development or test. Web/mobile apps, database systems, etc.

What I'm NOT looking for: A non-dev/test position.

Where I live: Rochester, NY.

Where I'm looking: Rochester area, Albany/Schenectady. Out of NY I can do CT or Mass. These are preferred locations; I can work anywhere and I wouldn't be adverse to moving for a while.

When I can start: I can start the week of Feb. 24 or March 3. My finals end on the 22nd, so as soon as those are done pretty much.

Requirements: It needs to be paid (entry-level acceptable), full time, and has to relate to SE is the only requirement from RIT.
Requirements from me are it has to be 6 months from March-August or 3 months from March-May. If pressed I could do Summer instead, but I planned my schedule around the change to semesters next year and have no idea what I would have to take if I can't get something for Spring, or if the classes would even be available.

Damn that's a
fine elephant.
I'm currently working on a crowdfunding campaign which I'm not quite ready to throw the towel in for yet, but I need to hedge my bets if that doesn't work out, so I'm looking for work.

My experience: My primary experience is in all levels of web application development for my own projects. My main projects were two non-trivial web applications, a server based application written in Python using Django, and a client based offline application using Coffeescript and AngularJS. Links to all my work can be found at http://fullandbydesign.com.au. I have no formal qualifications in development.

Before this time I was a maritime officer, second in charge of a 55 metre vessel that carried 40 trainees and 15 crew. I was in charge of managing all crew and trainees onboard under orders from the Master, as well as coordinating maintenance projects. I was in that line of work for 8 years.

What I'm looking for: Development, Design, QA or support work that I can do remotely from home. I'm not particularly choosy, I just want something that will keep my hands in development and design, at least somewhat.

What I'm not looking for: Any jobs that require me to move out of home.
Where I live: Hobart, Australia
Where I'm looking: Either work in Hobart, or anywhere remotely.
When I can start: Late March 2013
Requirements: Part time, full time, contracts, whatever's going within reason.

Reach me at: PM, or james [at] fullandbydesign.com.au

My experience: 7 years VMware administration, project management. Was shuffled into an Oracle SOA/Agile project for the last 3. Hands on self taught network administration including ASA. Was senior systems administrator for the last 3 years.
What I'm looking for: I prefer infrastructure management for virtualiziation and SAN management but am a very competent systems administrator.
What I'm NOT looking for: Entry level administration.
Where I live: Colorado Springs, CO.
Where I'm looking: Same as above.
When I can start: I am available immediately, with a few days notice.
Requirements: Full time. I will assume a 24hr on call status.
Can be reached via: PM, accrisk@gmail.com

Have a pretty stellar list of achievements and a familiarity with a number of systems I didn't list under experience including Lotus Domino, Tivoli, Barracuda and Blue Coat products, etc. I'm not one to want to get pigeonholed into a particular system exclusively and would prefer to be able to float to whatever requires attention. I'm not dead set on salary and would prefer daily challenge and work environment over monetary.

- Should be self-motivated, flexible, and eager to constantly learn/expand skill set.
- Understanding of systems engineering processes, methodologies and tools.
- Strong understanding of system and network fundamentals, all production operating systems.
- Familiar with common troubleshooting tools and processes.

What all that poo poo above really means:

I work on the NetOps team (you would be working on this team) supporting the day to day operation of multiple game titles (Blacklight Retribution, Star Trek Online, Champions Online, Rusty Hearts and RaiderZ are among the largest titles we help support). Note that game operations takes up roughly half of our time every day, normally including scheduled maintenance, game updates, new launches, OS patching, troubleshooting random issues etc. The rest of our time is doing genuine SysAdmin work in support of the PWE corporate infrastructure, so you will gain skill with both Windows and Linux OS's and networking. This is NOT what I would consider a Junior position as you are required to know quite a bit in general.

You SHOULD have a SOLID understanding of networks and server OSs and the relationship between them, in addition the following would help:

- Batch/Bash/Powershell scripting experience? Awesome!
- Windows server troubleshooting/configuration steps and tools used to perform said steps Swell!
- Linux knowledge is more than welcome and a basic level understanding of Linux is required. Basically you need to know your way around the command line, file permissions, user accounts/groups, configuration/setup, and some bash/perl scripting experience would certainly help, Apache skills would be welcome too.
- The desire to pick up stuff and run with it. For example when I got here we had a completely unused DAM system that someone purchased and never set up due to "poo poo's too hard" mentality. Within two weeks of me getting here I had it ready to sit up and do tricks just because nobody else wanted to touch it. This has gotten me experience in EqualLogic SANs, Adobe enterprise software (hahaha) and Java (). It hasn't been easy but drat it's been worth it. I've also developed a healthy loathing for Adobe as well so there's that...
- If you have Exchange experience (migrations specifically) feel free to include that in your resume, but be honest about your experience (this should go without saying). We have a unique need for an Exchange guy atm and having the right experience could shoot your resume to the top of the stack, so to speak. Don't worry if you don't, though, it wont disqualify you by any means.
- Java experience If you've read above you know why
- Don't be a stereotypical neckbeard. Seriously take a bath before you come in at least

http://www.pwe-inc.com/work

That all being said, this is an AWESOME company to work for. Although the hours can be long, your coworkers and the facilities provided are both top notch. The company benefits are pretty swell as well. And obviously it's a video game company so that comes with it's own set of perks as well. There is much room to grow if you have the right skillset and drive. A friend of mine went from this same position to a Sr Engineer position in a matter of months because he had the right skills.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any questions

Looks like I'm on a sinking ship. It's just sinking very slowly.

My Experience: I've been living on the command line since I was 14 (I'm 28 now). I have a half-rack in my home office doing just about anything I find interesting (I like nice hostnames, so I run bind. A multisite VPN and routing, why not? OpenBSD firewalls, ESXi, nfsv4, etc). Lately I've been interested in picking up some more networking knowledge. Usually if I'm not totally familiar with something, I'll set it up at home and break it instead of your systems.

I'm currently doing sysadmin work at a small college. Linux servers, scripting Windows desktop deployments, monitoring with nagios, firewalls, layer 2 and some light programming (python). Unfortunately this involves some desktop support and isn't really going anywhere.

Previously I've worked at web hosts and an MSP doing mostly the same vein of stuff.

What I'm looking for:
I want to work with a group of talented sysadmins doing interesting work. I'm a quick learner and I adapt very quickly to new systems. Here are some other things I've been interested in lately or would love to learn:
  • Deployment and config management (chef, puppet) -- I want to work in an environment where this is useful, not just for the sake of doing it. I have a Windows ecosystem that deploys itself, but Linux is more interesting.
  • I really enjoy monitoring and analytics. I'm used to Nagios, but anything that allows the same level of flexibility.
  • Storage and VMware.
  • People who are smarter and have more experience than me.

What I'm NOT looking for: Helpdesk, phone support, printers.
Where I Live: Westchester County, NY (I live near a train)
Where I'm Looking: NYC, but I'd relocate anywhere in the NE for a perfect job.
When I can start: It really depends on the offer, at least two weeks of lead time though.
Requirements: Decent pay, benefits and normal hours.
Can be reached via: PM only; I have a very unique name so first@lastname.tld would be a bit too revealing.

- CMS development such as custom Wordpess plugins and themes

Full resume can be found here.

What I'm NOT looking for: Support/helpdesk, graphic/layout design.
Where I live: Central Florida, but I am prepared to relocate on short notice.
Where I'm looking: Anywhere in the United States.
When I can start: Immediately if necessary due to time-sensitive project requirements or other factors, otherwise within a week.
Requirements: 50k or $25/hour, negotiable depending on the project(s) and/or the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Can be reached via: PM or cbforrester@gmail.com

classically trained
I am currently the sole IT guy for a non profit senior services organization in Los Angeles, CA, and for personal reasons I'll be vacating my full time position next month, towards the end of April.

I will be guiding the hiring process, providing input into the final selection process and will be involved as a resource and as volunteer beyond my official end date. It's really important to me that we find a reliable, personable and professional person or persons to assume my duties, and despite my better judgement I'm gonna post this here and maybe someone will see it.

The job description (quick and dirty version):

Network Admin duties at all 3 locations (maintain and configure 4 separate Active Directory servers, 3 file servers, 1 SQL server. 3 broadband networks, 2 consumer grade routers and one Sonicwall at the main site, multiple wireless networks)
Help Desk duties (support and education for 80-100 users, social workers, administrative staff, and seniors who participate in our technology outreach programs.)
Graphic, Video and Web editing duties (We use a CMS to manage our site, and produce our graphics in house currently. HTML4, minor Javascript, Adobe Creative Suite knowledge not strictly required but desired.)
Email / Google Apps administration (Currently using Outlook and a regular pop3 email server, transitioning to Google Apps for NonProfits for it's collaborative and cloudy features)
Nortel BCM based telephony systems - We have a 3rd party phone expert company to help us with the heavy stuff that's beyond my pay grade, but ideally our candidate would be able to run basic admin duties and handset programming on the Nortel BCM system to save time and money.)

Tech in play:

Windows XP and 7
IE, Chrome browsers
Norton Exec Backup / Tape Drives
Norton Endpoint and MS Security Essentials anti-malware
Windows Server 2k3, 2k8
Server roles - AD, DHCP, DNS, Network file storage and permissions
Adobe Creative Suite (esp Photoshop and Premiere Pro, print and web graphics)
Sonicwall firewall, candidates should be familiar with TCP/IP, firewall rule creation, etc)
A couple Mac OSX machines
Android and iPhone mobile OS's
Joomla CMS
Nortel BCM telephony systems
Google Apps (esp shared calendaring and email admin stuff)
MS Office 2007/10
Polycom conference and Teleconference units
A/V setups (projectors, big screen TV's

The ideal candidate is cool with working near the heart of beautiful downtown LA and Hollywood, travelling on short notice between sites, can work effectively remotely or providing phone support, is comfortable working with seniors who've literally never seen or touched a computer before. My replacement is going to need superhuman patience. Different City and State agencies conduct multimedia presentations in our buildings regularly, so AV experience is a big plus. Social workers depend on our networks to provide service to a lot of disabled or infirm people, so dependability, quick problem solving skills, and a penchant for redundancy and reliability in network configuration and maintenance is absolutely necessary. If systems fail too hard, and don't have a failover, lots of very nice people can't access the services on which they depend to eat, sleep and get medical treatment. This is not a laid back or lassaiz faire situation, but it's immensely rewarding to be involved. Our organization is very old and well known in LA and we're coming out of a contraction phase (thanks, recession!) so the future looks good for expansion and growth.

I'm vacating the position because I live too far away and can't swing the commute any more. This has been the most satisfying but challenging work I've ever done, but it's time to step aside and assume a more limited support role while I pursue other life stuff. I will be involved in creating documentation, continued training / support and emergency response stuff until everything is settled. I will be involved on a volunteer basis for technology classes and outreach - it's how I got involved, and it somehow snowballed into assuming all IT duties from their previous 3rd party IT firm who was basically defrauding them.

Whew, sorry for the novel. My email is fadmin at sbssla dot org, you can check out our website here: https://www.sbssla.org

Oh, and it's a nonprofit, so you're not gonna get top industry dollar for your work but it's warmer and fuzzier than you can possibly imagine. I'm A+, N+, MCP Certified and have been working professionally as IT scrub for 14 years now, and we're looking for someone with similar certifications, education and experience.

I've just received word that a member of my team has taken a position out of state and will be leaving us shortly. We've not yet received approval for re-posting the position, but given the role I am hopeful that we will be able to re-hire.

This will be a Systems Administrator position; principal Linux admin supporting Wordpress and cPanel. This position will also include network security responsibilities across three buildings - primarily Fortigate firewalls.

Our infrastructure is almost 100% virtualized on Vsphere 5.0(moving to 5.1 in the coming months). Experience with Netware/OES2 would be a plus.

Who we are: internal IT department for a College at a large public University located in Athens, GA. We're responsible for everything IT inside the building edge except for some campus wide critical services, e.g. email. We serve 200 faculty, 400 staff and thousands of students at both the graduate and undergraduate level.

I'll post more details when/if we the position is approved. This position will report to me and I will have final say in candidate selection. Salary would be dependent on experience, but you can count on $45k-55k and raises of any kind are few and far between.

If interested PM me or drop me an email at mewisenb at gmail.
