I'm pretty sure that if anyone in the band has been doing drugs the past few years, it's Wayne. I could be wrong, though. Anyways, the Lips are going to be playing WB's SXSW showcase on March 14, and it's going to be streamed live here. It also looks like they've been shooting a music video over the past few days, so maybe we'll finally get to hear something new from the record soon.

No. Most folks regard his earlier stuff as being his best stuff and the only books I've heard long-time fans rip on were books 5-7 of the Dark Tower series and he was clean as hell when he wrote those (I liked them all). Not that that has anything to do with the Flaming Lips though.

They just sold a hell of a lot more records than everyone else so some people think they are exempt somehow. Hair metal gets a bad rap because of all the horrible bands, but there were some really good talented bands too. I went to a lot of shows during that time and they were some of the best shows I've ever seen. Monsters of Rock comes to mind, good poo poo.

Talking Heads and Blondie came out at the same time as the Ramones and played at CBGB all the time but I wouldn't call them punk rock. Do you have a different word for like White Snake and Ratt and Poison or something? Cause those are what I think of when I think Hair Metal and I wouldn't say they sound like GNR. I was born in 89 though so I don't have first hand experience with that scene.

You're talking about the Shining, and personally I would say that both are great in their own rights. Outside of that you have a made for TV movie that's only good thing is Tim Curry's Pennywise, a vastly overrated Shawshank Redemption, and then a pile of flaming poo poo. Also I can understand defending Appetite for Destruction-era Guns and Roses but Motley Crue sucks poo poo. For content, I listened to the 6 hour song the other day, the whole thing, and found it to be a nice experience.

I didn't think the Mist was that hot, but I was also thinking IT, The Running Man, The Lawnmower Man, The Langoliers, The Tommyknockers, the Dead Zone, the television version of the Shining, ad nauseum. His books aren't literary masterpieces, but they are easy to read page turners that are fun. If you don't like even his good works, then I respect that. And my point was most of his better stuff came while he was constantly strung out on drugs. After he kicked the habit his books have been really hit and miss, with more misses than hits honestly.

- Appetite For Destruction contains little or no songs which closely resemble the dominant glam-hair metal scenes. It has many which are radically different to that sound; "Mr. Brownstone", "Out Ta Get Me", "Nightrain", "Welcome to the Jungle", "You're Crazy" are in direct opposition to any hair-glam of the time. - That the band dressed in a hair-glam style was not their idea; Geffen essentially forced them into it. Regardless, the way a band dresses really shouldn't reflect on what genre their music is.  Sorry this derail happened but I wanted to correct those two glaring bits of wrongness.

You guys know that the C.C. from 'Ode to C.C.' is the guitarist from Poison (and Part 1 has a backwards sample of Talk Dirty to Me in it) and that Wayne has admitted that Chrome Plated Suicide is a pretty blatant ripoff of Sweet Child o' Mine, right?
