^^^Sure you're not living in one of the "constitution-free zones"? If you live with 100 miles of a border, you are not fully covered by the US constitution. That means 2 out of 3 people in the US live in areas where they are not fully protected (according to Homeland Security). Try to leave east out of San Diego and you'll drive through multiple of these checkpoints before you hit Yuma, AZ. They generally just wave you through unless you're brown. There's also a checkpoint on the way up to Los Angeles but I've only ever seen it open a few times. I suspect the whole southern edge of the country is like this.

It's just some kind of "stick it to the man" super-patriot offensive. Yeah, I also think it's crazy that U.S. citizens should expect the government to respect the Fourth Amendment: The Constitution posted:The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. It's not that being asked if you're a citizen or not is inconvenient. It's that the government has no right to stop you, waste your time, and force you to answer personal questions of any nature without probable cause and/or a warrant. I hate to be the "slippery slope" guy, but when you start letting the government get away with stuff like this without question, it becomes that much easier for them to take it one step further. DHS checkpoints were controversial and implemented SEVERAL YEARS AGO. The memory of the public is disgustingly short these days... I mean, the implementation of these checkpoints and "constitution-light" zones were nationwide news. Maybe only NPR cared, or something...
