Loose nut behind the wheel strikes again. Got this on the evening commute home today. This road is a popular bypass for a busy three-way stop intersection and it starts out as a twisty 25MPH residential. This is the third time in as many years that I have personally driven by a scene like this in this exact spot. It's not even that bad...unless you come into the turn a little hot and fail to notice that it rises a bit going in then starts dropping away midcorner. I wonder who was driving. People always say "wow, this car is so big, bet it would tear up any little new compact car in a crash". Hahaha...no. Not unless I hit a car made of paper mâché.

Ugh. That video. The  that starts every time it's posted about whether the frame was rusted out, whether the engine was removed, and it's all a big conspiracy by the IIHS to make old cars look bad etc. etc.I personally believe the frame was probably serviceable (X frame lol) and there was in fact an engine in the car and the video just shows a worst case scenario and comparison of how far we've come safety wise.

At least the back window survived. I'm not 100% sold on that test. I mean of course the new one would fare better but one of the later scenes has a brown sand like substance flowing out of the car. Rust? Not denying that the '59 driver would be mincemeat but I think it may have also been somewhat compromised by the ravages of time.

IIRC, The Commodore was a test to make sure that the wall wasnt going to gently caress up when they whacked it with something big and heavy like a 4wd.

You can still buy it here and it has changed immensely. It now comes with electric windows and a driver's airbag! New zealand's new car laws are a joke and that van is 99% compatible with the 80's version. People think that archaic=reliable and pine for the imaginary 'good old days' when cars were supposedly super reliable and well made and easy to work on before those meddling laws made everything about safety and plastic and all this technology stuff that doesn't matter. Seriously, a 90's corolla is practically worth it's weight in gold because of this delusion.
