Most new cars have knock sensors retarding the timing or something to make lower grade gasoline work fine, just makes a lot less power.

Had a rental Ford Escape Ecoboost (1.6L turbo FWD) when I went to Austin for the F1 race:

When I first got it, I noticed it was getting really poo poo mileage, under 20mpg - which is not right for a 1.6.
Realizing this was a rental, I figured everyone put in regular, so I burned the tank empty and filled it with 93 and it spiked up to about 27. The owners manual said 91 or higher!

Anyways, I normally hate small SUV's like the Rav-4, CRV, etc. since most are extremely numb and boring, especially the new CRV. I must say the Escape completely impressed me! It had excellent power, handled much much better than expected, and had an absolutely incredible interior, nice materials, real leather, great steering wheel with full controls. Ford MYtouch was pretty great as well and paired up with my phone easily and I really had no issues at all.

I really can't say a bad thing about the car, except maybe the 'manual mode' was a bit useless, since it would still shift automatically most of the time and was very slow to respond, but this is a commuter SUV so I wouldn't knock it for that.

I went nuts and bought Kinesis K108 custom wheels for it. Yes, I know they're crazy expensive. Yes, I know Kinesis was bought by Lexani several years ago and a lot of enthusiasts don't feel Kinesis is worth buying now. I just don't care. :smug:

For the tires I went with the Bridgestone Potenza RE97 A/S, the tires made for the 2013 XTS, since they just were released on the general market in January 2013.

I bought the wheels and tires with pressure sensors from CarID in January, and received them in late February. I had Discount Tire put them on for me, for which they charged me $20.

Inner Lip: Black
Outer Lip: Gloss Black
Face: Machined
Window: Gloss Black
Bolts: Black
Register: Gloss Black
Register Studs: Black
Pinstripe: Machined (cost an extra $200 per wheel for a "real" machined pinstripe, as opposed to painted)

I put a coat of Klasse All in One and Sealer Glaze on each wheel... hope it helps.

I also installed the aftermarket AlphaTherm heated washer fluid unit on it, since the original unit was recalled.

The new wheels cost almost a third of what the car is worth. But I'm extremely happy with them. I kept the original tires, so I can move these wheels to another car later... I hope to keep them a long time. It still cost a lot less than getting the new XTS. I wasn't impressed with the XTS touch controls (very cumbersome to use), smaller size, and downgraded engine.

I'm driving a Chevrolet Captiva in Hawaii right now and it is absolutely awful.

Fleet only (in the States; I think they may have suckered the Australians into buying them privately), designed by Daewoo using GM Theta. 800 miles on the odometer and various trim pieces are rattling, intense wind noise through the doors, abysmal steering, mediocre drive train. I really want to just park it on the beach and let the ocean take it back to Korea.

I've had the 'stang for almost 5 months now and before today I hadn't bothered to take a glamour shot. Well, the sun came out and the "Sunburst Gold Metallic" paint looks fabulous when that happens, so I did the whole glamour shot thing.

Unfortunately, the following statements are true:
- I suck at photography
- Photos do the color no justice

...so it is what it is. It's a 2000 with the 4.6 and a Flowmaster cat-back system; it is about the highest-technology, nicest, newest car I've owned. And I'd say it's about on par, tech-wise, with the '86 MR2 I had a few years ago.

Very smooth, handling is awesome, I took the car into a parking lot a couple of weeks ago during freezing rain and I had trouble getting it to slide.

It gets extremely lovely gas mileage though (~16-20 mpg freeway) which I guess is to be expected as it's a big car with a V8.

How is that even possible? I get 27mpg freeway at 72mph with my '02 Deville...

I haven't driven the newer post-'05 DTS, but they're on the same platform (actually a refresh of) the '00-05 cars. Parts are absolutely insanely cheap. DTS has a pricey electronically controlled shocks, but other than that, the parts are GM parts bin, which makes maintenance very cheap.

They're reasonably quick, quiet, big... unexciting for sure, but there's definitely something attractive about them.

It sounds incredible with a Dezod Green Header V2 and a TRD Cold Air Intake. Before the Dyno I was getting 176.51 HP and 174.93 Torque to the wheels with just the headers which was a 6 HP increase from stock.. The body kit on it is only available for the RS 8, it comes stock with the black rims and with TRD lowering springs which drop you to a two finger gap. It also comes with a TRD axle back exhaust which from the get go sounds pretty drat good. I am doing vinyl's on the hood and redoing the lip this Thursday, I plan to get a front strut bar for better handling. I'm going to seal my Spec D taillights once it gets warmer. Painting my calipers red and the list goes on and on...

Do you mean it put down 170whp stock? That's pretty good, I thought the engine was rated at 180 hp to the crank?

According to this article, it's 180hp/173ft-lbs to the wheels, plus the OP mentioned adding headers and getting it dyno'd, so I would imagine that there could be a slight increase in power for the RS 8.0 over the standard tC.

"sending to the front wheels" i think just implies that the engine produces that much at the crank according to toyota.

I guess im gonna have to get headers for the br-z although im afraid to tune the thing

I don't like big wheels but I got rid of the 18s for 17" slice and dice action (also because these are the best Cadillac wheels ever conceived):

As to your MPGs a 3.71 axle ratio will do that. I get an average or 17-19 MPG. On the highway I can't get any better then 22. My Lux II with the 3.11s would get 19-21 MPG in my mixed road commute but on the highway I could get 25.

Some pro tips though if you had a Seville then you already know most of the quirks:

Watch the rear valve cover it likes to leak. Mines leaked 3 times been fixed twice.

The half case seal also likes to leak, if yours is certified then that is good because the motor has to come out and put on a stand and resealed, about a $2k+ repair. Front wheel bearings tend to not last long though I wonder if the ones that were installed on the car aren't any good as the replacements seem to last longer. Coolant cross over is still a problem and likes to leak around the 100k mark (happened on my last DTS). If you drive in the winter time where ice crystals form then do yourself a favor and get winter tires. I'll never go back to no seasons ever again. The traction you get from them is just unreal (I run Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice).

I think we talked about this before but I'm convinced that GM changed the tuning on the N* cause 2006+ require 91 and I can never touch the mileage that older ones get. Even on the LD8 3.11 axle ratio I could never get above 25 on consistent highway driving.

Price out FE3 shocks and your wallet will cry.

Wow, I knew the 3.11 was lazy, but I didn't know there was that much of a difference. Mine on the road gets better gas mileage than some so-called economy cars. (Complete in-town tanks are in the 14mpg range, though)
