I really don't get why it's so difficult for people to understand "You would do the same thing if you had their life", instead we teach people that if someone's poor it's because they're lazy, if they're rich it's because they worked harder than everyone and if they're bad it's because they're just evil.

The entire thing feels more and more painfully disingenuous as it goes on, and its supposed to be six goddamn months of research. When Media Matters makes a long research post about how poo poo your story is and right-wing media like Breitbart.com, Fox Nation, National Review Online, and Drudge pick it up and run with it, you should reevaluate what you're doing.

This American Life and All Things Considered also used parts of this reporting for stories. I like NPR, even though I'm very much aware they can be center-right a lot (especially Planet Money). But this poo poo right here is loving awful, and terrible journalism at that.

A bit late to the party, but the issue that many people have with the tumblr SJCs is that they take really innocuous things and blow them completely out of proportion, for instance Laci Green was chased off tumblr for about three months last year because she only used cis pronouns in her videos, so SJCs started sending her death threats with pictures of her house and address. And that's just an example, there's lost of people that are just bullies posing as people who actually care about social justice so that they can be dicks to people and get cheered on and/or feel righteous in some hosed up way.

Yes, you do have to keep this in mind when you watch it of course, but they do report on a lot of things that challenge the West's status quo that the Western media ignores. Just don't watch it to learn anything about Russia.

Also, Young Turks always seem so incredibly smug that I can't stand watching anything by them. They also didn't realise the music video for Die Antwoord's 'Zef Side' was satire, so now I don't trust their judgement on other topics

Lenin was/is absolutely fascinating. He's without a doubt my favorite historical figure to read about. His rise to power and the perversion of his dream is like something out of Shakespeare. He'd be a sympathetic figure if it weren't for all the countless people who were killed during the revolution and counter-revolution. Even then, there's something very sad about a man working all his life to end tyranny, only to create a system which was even more blood-thirsty than the one it replaced
