I really don't get why it's so difficult for people to understand "You would do the same thing if you had their life", instead we teach people that if someone's poor it's because they're lazy, if they're rich it's because they worked harder than everyone and if they're bad it's because they're just evil.
How many people would you have to kidnap\shoot to avoid the Holocaust, the second world war, the great depression or the first world war?

It's Easter y'all.

Pope Francis kisses the feet of a young prisoner after washing them at a mass at the church of the Casal del Marmo youth prison in Rome on March 28, 2013. Pope Francis washed the feet of 12 young offenders at the prison in a version of an ancient Easter ritual, which has been seen as an effort to bring the church closer to the needy.

And here's a video of Australian comedian John Safran being literally crucified as a television stunt:
:nms:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-3ypen637c:nms:

From Wikipedia

quote:

In 2009 John Safran's Race Relations, an eight part comedy documentary television series, was picked up by the ABC.[9] As part of this series, on 10 April 2009, John Safran took part in a devotional crucifixion, an annual event occurring on Good Friday in the Philippines. Safran was crucified in Barangay Kapitangan, Paombong, Bulacan, just outside of Manila along with three other men and one woman.[10] He had nails driven through his hands and feet and hung on the cross for five minutes before being taken down and given medical treatment in a nearby tent set up for treatment.[11]

Apparently voluntary crucifixions are an annual thing in the Philippines.

It's entirely possible that this could be construed as a criticism of our modern societal and economic system which forces people to work at oppressive wages whilst being scorned if they receive even a pittance of government support. A system which is backed up by a "gently caress you got mine" and "Bootstraps!" mentality amongst the masses, even those who are being oppressed.

But let's be honest. The voter is drinking a beer, wearing a baseball cap and sitting on a porch, so it must clearly be a nigg welfare queen who is leeching on ARE TAXES! and thus this is merely propagating the system as mentioned in the first paragraph :smith:

A bit late to the party, but the issue that many people have with the tumblr SJCs is that they take really innocuous things and blow them completely out of proportion, for instance Laci Green was chased off tumblr for about three months last year because she only used cis pronouns in her videos, so SJCs started sending her death threats with pictures of her house and address. And that's just an example, there's lost of people that are just bullies posing as people who actually care about social justice so that they can be dicks to people and get cheered on and/or feel righteous in some hosed up way.

Yea, and while I could usually enjoy This American Life despite Planet Money being one of the most rotten poo poo filled shows around, this is really making me reconsider them on the "not entirely poo poo; use on occasion" list.
I mean, even if the story isn't utter loving rubbish and lies, why the hell would they focus on this poo poo? This from the show about how religion fucks you up, about kidnapped Latin Americans and the town that went ultra-capitalist? I used to work at an art gallery which was practically empty most of the time and I'd run the TAL podcast through the soundsystem, regret doing that now.

A lot of the poo poo I do online for womens rights, mostly, uses the same techniques I use for trolling. Thing is, I do that when confronted with hate-filled sacks of utter poo poo in open forums, on comments on the national paper or on facebook. Shaming people can be a powerful demotivator (I admit to the controversy of this) but the idea of that internet poo poo being more important than repping it in real life is laughable. You do poo poo. You shape discourse. You talk against dumb poo poo whereever you find it, you don't shack up in some idiot website then wait for one of your cadre to gently caress up then gang up on them. I hold fuckers like that in the deepest of contempt.

Yeah, it is, but at the same time it makes the important part that the only politics people care about now is identity politics, and that there's only so much "social justice" and "acceptance" you can build before you realize you're not actually tackling the root economic causes of injustice. Also, it seems like some of the SJC people are a lot more about getting attention and one-upping each other on the oppresso-meter than they are about actually changing things.

Lenin was/is absolutely fascinating. He's without a doubt my favorite historical figure to read about. His rise to power and the perversion of his dream is like something out of Shakespeare. He'd be a sympathetic figure if it weren't for all the countless people who were killed during the revolution and counter-revolution. Even then, there's something very sad about a man working all his life to end tyranny, only to create a system which was even more blood-thirsty than the one it replaced :smith:

Dismissing the death of 2M+ people in the Russian Civil War as "negligible" is kinda troubling. Of course, as you are about to note, nobody died in the actual October Revolution, the Civil War was a different matter entirely, which is less disturbing than disingenuous.
