I really don't get why it's so difficult for people to understand "You would do the same thing if you had their life", instead we teach people that if someone's poor it's because they're lazy, if they're rich it's because they worked harder than everyone and if they're bad it's because they're just evil. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcKX0L2xIX4

It's Easter y'all. Pope Francis kisses the feet of a young prisoner after washing them at a mass at the church of the Casal del Marmo youth prison in Rome on March 28, 2013. Pope Francis washed the feet of 12 young offenders at the prison in a version of an ancient Easter ritual, which has been seen as an effort to bring the church closer to the needy. And here's a video of Australian comedian John Safran being literally crucified as a television stunt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-3ypen637c From Wikipedia quote:In 2009 John Safran's Race Relations, an eight part comedy documentary television series, was picked up by the ABC.[9] As part of this series, on 10 April 2009, John Safran took part in a devotional crucifixion, an annual event occurring on Good Friday in the Philippines. Safran was crucified in Barangay Kapitangan, Paombong, Bulacan, just outside of Manila along with three other men and one woman.[10] He had nails driven through his hands and feet and hung on the cross for five minutes before being taken down and given medical treatment in a nearby tent set up for treatment.[11] Apparently voluntary crucifixions are an annual thing in the Philippines.

That's the deal. And it's a deal 14 million Americans have signed up for. The entire thing feels more and more painfully disingenuous as it goes on, and its supposed to be six goddamn months of research. When Media Matters makes a long research post about how poo poo your story is and right-wing media like Breitbart.com, Fox Nation, National Review Online, and Drudge pick it up and run with it, you should reevaluate what you're doing. This American Life and All Things Considered also used parts of this reporting for stories. I like NPR, even though I'm very much aware they can be center-right a lot (especially Planet Money). But this poo poo right here is loving awful, and terrible journalism at that. edit: well gently caress me, I should have paid more attention to D&D, there is already a thread on this topic. here Logan 5 fucked around with this message at 08:45 on Mar 29, 2013 |

A system which is backed up by a "gently caress you got mine" and "Bootstraps!" mentality amongst the masses, even those who are being oppressed. But let's be honest. A bit late to the party, but the issue that many people have with the tumblr SJCs is that they take really innocuous things and blow them completely out of proportion, for instance Laci Green was chased off tumblr for about three months last year because she only used cis pronouns in her videos, so SJCs started sending her death threats with pictures of her house and address. And that's just an example, there's lost of people that are just bullies posing as people who actually care about social justice so that they can be dicks to people and get cheered on and/or feel righteous in some hosed up way. Also, it seems like some of the SJC people are a lot more about getting attention and one-upping each other on the oppresso-meter than they are about actually changing things. Lenin was/is absolutely fascinating. He's without a doubt my favorite historical figure to read about. His rise to power and the perversion of his dream is like something out of Shakespeare. He'd be a sympathetic figure if it weren't for all the countless people who were killed during the revolution and counter-revolution. Even then, there's something very sad about a man working all his life to end tyranny, only to create a system which was even more blood-thirsty than the one it replaced On the subject of Russian historical figures whose lives were more unbelievable than the most ridiculous AAA summer popcorn flicks:
