So apparently the newest thing is that Michelle Obama accidentally referred to herself as a single mother before quickly correcting herself a few seconds later. Levin spent at least a good 15 minutes on it earlier, replaying the clip over and over while yelling at his producer, as he likes to do. There was no real point besides mentioning they take vacations apart sometimes and Obama plays a lot of golf, talking about how he was "just stating the facts." It's on Drudge and other places too.

What a nutty thing to run with.

Whenever I hear crazy things like this it just makes me think that Rush wants to have a son and marry him. Who the gently caress would ever do such a thing? Where do they get the idea that there is just this huge crowd of otherwise normal people that would be like 'oh, gay marriage? time to gently caress my children!'?

This is utterly idiotic because if people would do this, why wouldn't fathers already be marrying their daughters to do the same thing? Oh yeah because INCEST.

Yeah, people can already do a fake opposite sex marriage to commit fraud. Why would it be any more of a problem with same sex marriage? Since fraud doesn't require a real relationship, the genders of the people committing it are already irrelevant.

Is there a general term for this type of gambit, where you tie-things-to or frame-things-in-terms-of some mortal sin or crime against humanity? Jesus, is that were Jeremy Irons gets his ideas? Or is it the other way around?

quote:

In a recent interview with Huffington Post Live, Irons spoke slowly and deliberately as he wondered whether legalizing gay marriage would encourage incest.
“Could a father not marry his son?” asked the Oscar winner, 64, who argued that as it stands, incest only exists to protect society from inbreeding, and “men don’t breed.” Plus, he said, ”If I wanted to pass on my estate without death duties, I could marry my son and pass on my estate to him.”

:stare:

quote:

Still, regardless of what happens, the star of Showtime’s “The Borgias” wishes everyone in domestic partnerships well.
“Living with another animal, whether it be a husband or a dog, is great,” he said. “It’s lovely to have someone to love. I don’t think sex matters at all. What it’s called doesn’t matter at all.”

Oh, he wishes everybody well. Never mind then.

No, he's actually correct that the reason for the taboo on incest is to prevent inbreeding. In many states you can actually marry close relatives if you can demonstrate you are sterile or otherwise unable to reproduce.

The stare wasn't for the stated reason behind anti-incest laws. It was for Irons unironically suggesting people marrying their kids to dodge estate taxes.

Admittedly, I should have been more precise with my bolding.

There's a long history of Irons saying random as gently caress things, apparently. I stumbled across it googling his name once. If you dick around long enough, you'll find anecdotes about people meeting Irons and him talking about his crackpot theories on things. He seems like one of those David Icke/lizard men types, sort of like a very British Jesse Ventura, but I can't tell for sure. My point being, it may be homophobia or it may be Jeremy Irons being a loving weirdo who always has a completely bizarre take on everything, heh, which he apparently is.

He said that he has always supported gay marriage in spite of the fact that if you can use google you can see that this wasn't true as late as January of last year, and that on a lot of things he's "still not quite there yet" so I'm guessing he has to yell about freedoms for a while longer before he can say that legal pot/gambling/prostitution are ok in order to convince people who are willing to pay him money that he is safe to show on TV without losing his core demographic of lunatics

There are quite a few Libertarians who are fine with the idea of a Libertarian federal government while voting in extremely conservative policies at the local level.

It is already that way with a few of those sorts of laws, which is why there are a few places in the US that have legal gambling and prostitution, and now even legal pot.

Listening to Glenn Beck this morning and he was going on about how taking away guns is always the first step in politically driven genocide and said that if we let them take our guns now within ten years they will be rounding up political enemies and murdering them. His co-host sycophant whoever was like "but we had the assault weapons ban for that long and nothing happened" and he was like "well, yeah, I mean if they take all of the guns away completely."

Like he even realizes how ridiculous the poo poo he is saying is and that they're never going to be able to take away all guns period, but he's still going to fearmonger as much as possible.
