It's not so much that I hate the ad, but on Hulu, there is one ad for Whisky with Christina Hendricks, that is LITERALLY twice as loud as anything else. I was watching something pretty loud admittedly, and one ad came on, then that one, and holy crap it almost blew out my speakers. I was scrambling for the remote. Ads being louder than a show is an old cliche, but this one is insanely loud. Scared the poo poo out of my dogs... It's been on a few times, and it is not fixed. As of last year, it's now illegal for broadcast and cable TV commercials to be louder than the program that they accompany. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commercial_Advertisement_Loudness_Mitigation_Act http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/12/tv-commercial-volume-to-calm-down/ http://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/loud-commercials If you find a commercial that is in violation of this, write down the name of the company, what show you were watching when you saw it (and which channel it was on), and the time it happened, then call the FCC and tell them. They employ a staff of people dedicated to enforcing this statute. Gonz fucked around with this message at 23:06 on Apr 13, 2013 |

Literally everything is more expensive in Australia. I took a holiday in the states and was absolutely floored by how cheap everything was, especially with the exchange rate. With zero authority on the matter I'd guess that it's because our manufacturing sector is nonexistent, so all of our goods are imported and subject to ridonk transportation costs and some pretty nasty tariffs (to encourage that non existent local manufacturing). Also I'm pretty sure our minimum wage is comparatively massive. But yeah, surprisingly terrible ad. Got blasted nonstop on TV for a bit. Ugh. EDIT: For the sake of the thread here's another one from a few years back. Everyone here kind of hated it, but I think it's flippin rad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORfkh0OojxY Plastic Mick fucked around with this message at 07:58 on Apr 14, 2013 |

I know this is in TVIV but Spotify has the worst loving commercials in their free mode and it's driving me bonkers. "If you mention 'Offline Mode' to a Spotify Premium user, they'll start to smile. And here's why:" Yes, a conversation that will come up all the time in public. A Kraft macaroni bowl commercial featuring a guy with an awful lisp saying "You missed dinner with the fam? Bummer." in the most obnoxious way possible. And now a McDonalds commercial that includes the phrases "The best thing to happen to your mouth since teeth" and "The Big Mac tastes like the smell of success." I'm convinced McDonalds has the worst ad agency on Earth and they should all be out on their rear end.

And this isn't even touching the real crux of the issue, which is that (I'm saying this as a former "Sandwich Artist") Subway food is every bit as unhealthy and disgusting as any other fast food chain. The sheer number of people who would order various footlongs with disgusting amounts of extra mayonnaise is still enough to give me nightmares.
