I've had Windhand on heavy rotation since 2010 when they put out the Practice Space demo, High Priest of Saturn is another I like, I have Devil's Blood, Rituals of the Oak, The Wounded Kings, etc. I'm just feeling like I'm missing some. I like the way the female vocals sound against the heavy crushing riffs. Hopefully stuff that is painfully slow and heavy. Give Subrosa a listen. They are presently recording a new album. How come Queens of the Stone Age keep getting brought up in this thread? I don't really see them as being in the same vein as the other bands mentioned. They don't even really have riff's that go on for awhile either. I'm still new to this genre so I guess there could be something I'm missing. Not complaining or anything btw.

Probably because Josh Homme was in Kyuss, which played a lot of Stoner Rock stuff. Also he did the Desert Sessions, which are pretty cool. Also QOTSA are definitely stoner rock influenced.

My friends would always look at me like I had a second head with a bad hat on it if I mentioned I never cared for QotSA. Never got the love for them, though. Kind of bland sounding to me. Regardless, I got to go see Yob last weekend, and that was some badass poo poo. They did two shows, but I only caught the first night, as that wiped me out. Recommended.

I saw Yob last year with WiTTR, Melvins and Slayer but due to the poorly organised entrance to the gig, I missed them play Prepare the Ground, which is like my favourite Yob ever. I could hear it from the queue outside and as soon as I got in it was over They are amazing live though, anyone with even a passing interest in this sort of music should see them if they get a chance.

I can't stop playing Krownn's album Hyborian Age. From the first song I knew it was heavy enough for me, and the riffs are very Sabbath-y.

If I'm nuts about High on Fire what else do I need to listen to? I guess Black Cobra is sort of along the same lines, but there's something I much prefer about High on Fire. And thank you thread for introducing me to The Body and Krownn in the last few pages.

Sounds like Deep Purple with a chick singing. I guess since nobody's ripped them off in a while that counts as original.

If ripping off deep purple means playing the same instruments then yes, they did mercilessly rip them off.

To be fair, Leaning On A Bear sounds very reminiscent of Deep Purple MK I, but that's only one of the few songs I listened to so far. From what I have heard, there is some Purple influence there.

Of course there's influence. They're going for the 60's sound. By that measure they're "ripping off" a decade. Is every death metal band ripping off possessed? Every band since the Beatles is a ripoff too.

Some great music on this thread! I look forward to listening to some of the stuff I haven't heard before One band I thought I should mention is Sabazius. Now, I know most doom metal bands are known for their lengthy tracks, but Sabazius really take this to the extreme. I don't think they have any tracks under 20 minutes, and their latest release, 'The Descent Of Man', is 11 HOURS LONG http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrmBnN7aQ9s Let us know how far you get through it, I think I only managed about 10 minutes. One reviewer for Terrorizer allegedly listened to the entire thing in one sitting, although I have my doubts.
