Everything in this macro is so vague. Language: English? Does that mean no one is allowed to speak any other language? Also, how can the constitution be a culture? The Bill of Rights is in the Constitution!! And I loving hate the Drug Screening with welfare bullshit, this person is obsessed with that. And what constitutes a "freebie", exactly?

This isn't so much an argument against organized religion as an argument against tax exemptions. I know there are two churches within a mile of each other in my hometown that each have the square footage of your average mall.

Not that it diminishes the horribleness of bondage but the kind of chattel slavery they're drawing the parallel with there is more or less gone. Mauritania is the only country I can think of that fit the literal slaves criteria, unless these guys are really progressive and they're speaking out for exploited migrant laborers in the gulf states (they're not).

Even then, the slavery in Mauritania is more of an entrenched social structure. It's not legal or anything...

Also maybe they should have used a picture of actual existing slaves, and not a still from the movie Amistad with Djimon Hounsou in the center. Loses a bit of it's meaning when its an actors in the picture and not actually people suffering.

Not facebook, but tumblr, I posted a joke about the Drudge cover yesterday of the Boston bomber. I got a stupid reply to it a few minutes ago. Now the reply itself itself is stupid, but then I saw the entire person behind it when I clicked on their reply. I just need to share this absurdity with someone. I found a very god fearing, very libertarian, very brony, very yellow, person.

I always wonder what people who say this think drug addicts are going to do if you don't give them welfare or food stamps or whatever. Will they stop taking drugs? No of course not, they're addicts. Get jobs? They're drug addicts. Seems they either get to literally die of starvation/exposure, or turn to crime.

I think most people like this have no idea how most assistance programs work. So in their mind the government just sends out a huge check every month that they can just spend anywhere. They don't seem to realize that a lot of this stuff is loaded on to cards and is fairly strict about what you can and cannot spend it on. Which I'm sure is a point of pride, since THEY don't need no goddamn welfare so they don't need to understand it!! :bahgawd:

Also that the government does not in fact have some big list on a supercomputer of those who are on assistance of some kind and on a terror watchlist.

There's a subtle difference between.

"Bad things are happening to me, but I need to keep positive, I'll get through this"

and

"Bad things happened to you? Quit whinging! If you were a better person bad things wouldn't happen"

Make sure you stay firmly in the former and don't fall into the latter, you'll be fine.

It's probably more like that stuff from "The Secret." Not so much that you're a bad person, but that you have to visualize what you want in order to get it. So basically make a wish and the universe will grant it if you wish enough. :downs:

Then again, I've also heard these same types say that you tend to attract the things you don't want because you have such strong feelings about them or something.

Either way, the point I'm making is, if you say, "I need to think positive" you aren't really hurting anyone/anything. Saying, "You need to think positive" on the other hand, is a dick move.
