Didn't like her at first, especially with her intro, but every cast needs a good rear end in a top hat. I definitely like her better than shsl serial killer, who was just creepy and stupid. I like that her rationale for not bathing was that she couldn't tie her obi herself. Rather than tying it in a way that she could handle on her own, or eschewing the obi, or getting some clothes appropriate for crawling around in the sand on her hands and knees and murdering small animals, she just decided to never remove the obi and consequently never bathe. Apparently the last time she got dressed was the same morning that she arrived at Hope's Peak Academy.

There's no trace of embarrassment remaining, which makes me think it wasn't there in the first place. She wasn't ashamed to ask, she was afraid to ask. Afraid of what? Did she think nobody would help her? I'm thinking Saionji and Tsumiki might have a lot in common. A few comments about issues that came up. No quotes because I'm lazy. Irasshaimase: My reasoning is that while not completely international yet, this word is known to much of the urban western world these days as "that thing they shout at you when you enter a Japanese restaurant". Also, this is Ibuki speaking, and it felt much better to leave it in. Soapies: Originally araikko, a childish term that means, yes, soaping each other while taking a shared bath. As far as I can tell, it's a word that's used in exactly two cases. The first is for parents sharing a bathtub with their small children (as is customary in Japan). The second is for straight-up porn. There isn't really an equivalent term in English, so we made up one. Chibimi: I haven't forgotten about our tamagotchi pet, and I won't let her die again. Look for updates on her soon. Gundam: Gundam's "He was the weakest of the Four Great Demons" comes from the "Swordmaster Yamato" chapter of Gyagu Manga Biyori, which is most definitely worth a read or a watch (it's episode 6 of the anime adaptation's second season - these are 5 minute episodes we're talking about, so not much of a time commitment). If you do watch it, pay close attention to the last few seconds or you'll miss the reference. The phrase became a minor meme on the Japanese internet and is quoted in any situation something is defeated much more easily than it should be.

Well, it does make a certain amount of sense, given her character - after all, it's exactly the sort of thing a small child might do. Frankly, between the whole not bathing thing, and her immediately breaking down in tears when called out on it, Saionji's coming across as less of a potential murderer, and more as someone who's just... weirdly pathetic.

Something is kind of bugging me about the translation in the last update, the "humid House of Lilies" line, I am curious what is was in Japanese. Did it directly translate into Lily Tribe or something similar? If so, it was a dig at lesbianism, due to the line SHSL classical Japanese dancer girl, delivered about kissing. it just strikes me that you went a bit too straight laced on a translation that could have been given a bit of flavor.

I couldn't tell you where it comes from, but I've seen/read translated Japanese works using "lilly" as a term for lesbianism before. Without knowing the origin of the term, it certainly seems weird, but I guess that's other languages in a nutshell.

Yuri is the Lily Tribe, Yaoi i believe is the Rose Tribe. If by folklore you mean the 70s, and by tribes you mean magazines, then yes, it does. Except for the fact that rose is "bara." wikipedia posted:The word yuri (百合?) literally means "lily", and is a relatively common Japanese feminine name.[4] In 1976, Bungaku Itō, editor of Barazoku (薔薇族?, lit. rose tribe), a magazine geared primarily towards gay men, first used the term yurizoku (百合族?, lit. lily tribe) in reference to female readers in the title of a column of letters called Yurizoku no heya (百合族の部屋?, lit. lily tribe's room).[14] It is unclear whether this was the first instance of this usage of the term. Not all women whose letters appeared in this short-lived column were necessarily lesbians, but some were and gradually an association developed. For example, the tanbi magazine Allan (アラン Aran?) began running a Yuri Tsūshin (百合通信?, "Lily Communication") personal ad column in July 1983 for "lesbiennes" to communicate.[15] Along the way, many dōjinshi circles incorporated the name "Yuri" or "Yuriko" into lesbian-themed hentai (pornographic) dōjinshi, and the "zoku" or "tribe" portion of this word was subsequently dropped.[6] Since then, the meaning has drifted from its mostly pornographic connotation to describe the portrayal of intimate love, sex, or the intimate emotional connections between women.[16] Like, maybe I missed some aspect of that when studying Japanese mythology, but I'm pretty sure that's a recent thing. sweetguts posted:So making soap beards and unicorn horns it is then! Well, she did say that Mikan's embarassment and panty-shot pose was 'moe' (the first time she fell), although it was in a creepy imitation of Hanamaru's voice. (So much that I thought it -was- Hanamura who was actually talking, got confused when the LP labelled it as her, and rechecked the scene to see that her name was written there for that line.) Whether she was making fun of Hanamaru or not, it's not particularly new for her. Granted, she already is a walking K-On reference so it makes sense for her to be a bit of an otaku as well. (Also I don't know if that new DR manga was still planned to be translated, but I've been reading it as it comes out (chapter 2 was released the other day) and its kind of spectacularly awful in a 'who hired this artist' kind of way; everyone has gigantic heads and tiny deformed hands and the artist seems to lack creativity for the most part, opting to badly ape the game screenshots instead of try to add their own flair to key scenes. It's fun to laugh at though, if you like laughing at bad artwork.)

I'm a little disappointed that they haven't visibly handled the Komaeda issue yet. I mean yeah it looks like Souda and Nidai might've kidnapped him, but you would think immediately after what had happened they'd neutralize him somehow while they worked on an actual method of containment for him as a group. I can see this ending up backfiring horribly.
