I agree with it being absurd, but we wouldn't have been getting BAH there if we weren't TDY. And there is definitely more than 1000 folk owed the pay.. 1000 x 1000 is a million dude.

Hey to whoever was asking how the Army chooses languages; it's completely arbitrarily and 99% likely based on what classes need bodies that your DLAB can fill. Also, DLABs mean nothing in class (no one will know) and most linguists suck dick at the job.

I dont even think classroom performance and dlpt scores are related.

And we had this teacher come into our class from the Student Learning Center who bragged that he picked up "passing DLPTs" as a hobby where he'd just commit to memory certain words from a language, then take the DLPT for it and get a passing grade. He said he'd taken the test so many times he can just guess through them based on the questions.

If you can get to Fort Gordon's strategic unit you can probably pick up the skills, maintain the language, and even branch out to other sigint poo poo maybe, not sure how focused it is down there. If you can come up to the mothership itself somehow, though, the sky is the limit. The DLPT is a fine way to assess language aptitude; no test will ever be perfect but I've never met anyone that's good at the language that didn't get a 3/3. It's funny how lovely people are the only ones that ever complain it's a bad test, although you hear the same bitching from fatties about the PT test... edit: or you could get onto a sot-a team at an sf group.

My friend just got pulled from Farsi Class and was given a choice of staying in the Army or leaving. She choose to stay and they gave her 35Q, Crypto network warfare specialist. All the Airforce people who got pulled with her are being kicked out, the navy guy is getting undezed status, and she got ultra secret computer hacker. I thought it was funny.

Yeah, she's nervous about it, kind of pissed because of how hard it is and how long, but with her case it really was a lack of ability why she failed out. And after she got her slot she was approached by two sergeants from our platoon who pretty much cried about not getting that job and how they were told the slots were on a "two year waiting list".

Sir Lucius, I do believe 35Qs go to JCAC down south. I've also heard that the course either already has been or will soon be watered down quite a bit since the attrition rate has been insane.

The attrition rate was high for Navy because it was mostly kids fresh out of boot who didn't feel like studying. Back when I went the other branches went to an A school first that lasted a couple months, and then the top performers of those classes could go to JCAC. But this was right when 35Q had been developed, so I wasn't sure if the Army was sending booters right to JCAC these days.

You probably won't get the type of answers you're looking for mostly because of  OPSEC As a 1A8 I can tell you this job owns. Translation seems like it would be the most mind-numbing part of the job, but in reality I find its the most rewarding.
