Beyond that, all I know is that the Carter is the Special Operations boat, and anyone I've asked about it has just said "we don't talk about that", even if it isn't necessarily classified.

RN subs also fly the Jolly Roger every time they sink something.

Wiki'P posted:

Following the introduction of submarines in several navies, Admiral Sir Arthur Wilson, the First Sea Lord of the British Royal Navy, stated that submarines were "underhanded, unfair, and damned un-English", and that he would convince the British Admiralty to have the crews of enemy submarines captured during wartime be hanged as pirates.

In September 1914, the British submarine HMS E9 successfully torpedoed the German cruiser SMS Hela. Remembering Wilson's statements, commanding officer Max Horton instructed his sailors to manufacture a Jolly Roger, which was flown from the submarine as she entered port. Each successful patrol saw Horton's submarine fly an additional Jolly Roger until there was no more room for flags, at which point Horton then had a large Jolly Roger manufactured, onto which symbols indicating E9's achievements were sewn.
Then it caught on, first pic is from the Belgrano.

Dear diary, I got another erection today at work. SO embarrassing, but kinda hot. The CO asked me to fix up his dress uniform. I've seen enough videos of people watching planes crashing right in front of them going "gently caress." and getting all quiet to know it isn't quite equivalent.

There's no equivalency with western cultures, them dudes are just all about yelling Allahu Ackbar a lot. It's not a big deal.

Yes, it's used in a wide variety of ways. The fun part gets to be when a bunch of dudes in the street start screaming it. Are they about to turn themselves into human paste or are they rooting for a soccer game? YOU DECIDE.
