As far as I recall Neill Blomkamp was making a Halo movie and it turned into District 9 (which actually feels a lot like Half-life as well, even with a gravity gun). There seems to be elements of Halo in Elysium as well, the most obvious being that the space station looks like a Halo planet (although the scifi inspiration for rotational stations is much, much older)

This was a while ago, but I watched the film based on this recommendation and it was such an amazingly lovely and touching film that I recommended it to everyone who would listen straight away. It's been a while since a movie, let alone an animated one, has made me tear up.

REQUEST!: There was a video I think was linked in a previous iteration of this thread, pretty sure it was a music video, catchy song, and the video was a bunch of somewhat awkward people 'twerking' or dancing oddly. So, I recently watched a video on Youtube and at the end, there was an ad. This ad was some rear end in a top hat rambling on about how he had found god, so he was going to save others lives.
