I have come to the conclusion that whenever there is a Pokemon inspired and/or themed thread, I have no loving clue what any of it means. Pokemon became wildly popular just as I graduated high school, so it was out of my age range from the now twenty-something majority of SA that remembers it fondly. Here are the musings of an out-of-the-loop mid-thirties rear end in a top hat that gets his information solely from memetic mutation: The main kid's name is Ash. Pikachu is a little yellow monster he owns, and there is also a dragon looking thing called Charizard. There are hundreds more monsters that I have no idea what they are or what they're named, but I think is also one of them. The antagonists consist of a woman with purple hair, some dude with even purple-ier hair, and some cat looking thing. I'm certain their name is Team Rocket. There are monster battles between Ash and Team Rocket that consists of each team member yelling at a red ball container, "[MONSTER], I choose you!" and the monster appears to battle. Am I correct about anything and cool enough to be in the know? I want to be cool.

Pokemon is just as silly as anything else. If you did not play it as a child like 99% of the dominant generation did you cannot do anything about it now, because viewing the game through a non-childlike lens makes it a boring and silly game (except possibly if you're caring deeply about the horrifically tedious hidden breeding mechanics and stats). There's a thousand more worthwhile things to learn about or be entertained by. Knowledge of fonts, world history of war, or Star Trek would probably be more impressive than knowledge of Pokemon and much easier to get into as an adult (easier than ever before now that we have the internet). I was excluded from the rest of the Pokemon playing masses because I was not allowed. My parents thought it was about trading demons and even they weren't the pokemon were demonic in design. Kind of funny that there's an actual game, Shin Megami Tensei, that's gotten popular recently that's exactly about that (and you kill god in the original snes game, out before pokemon). Then again, I find almost all rpgs tedious in general. My inane thing that I liked as a child was Power Rangers. Until a preacher said that Dragons were demonic and they caught wind of the magic on the show, which is when they made me through them all out into the garbage. Sigh.

Oh, I know. I thought it was silly then, and I think it's silly now, but I don't chastise the people who grew up with it. It was just something for kids back then, and I didn't follow it or the games (forgot about those) and in turn don't know much of anything about Pokemon. Just gettin' my facts straight. My mom didn't let me watch Power Rangers either. She once fired a babysitter for letting me watch it. She let me watch Pokemon though. A guy at my college actually got us all back into the Pokemon Trading Card Game as a joke, because we were all nerds, and still had all our old cards. Then we realized we were twenty-something year old nerds with more money than sense, instead of the kids who had to beg their mom for a pack of trading cards. It started an arms race of building newer and stronger decks, and the original guy just sat back and watched as we decided to waste our money on colorful cardboard. But hey, I guess it was cheaper than Magic.

I'm down with the first 151 pokemon but beyond that I don't know what the gently caress. It's worse when some of them make their way into pop culture .ie. mudkip.

Just wanted to share something with you guys something I've been loving lately. It's an 8 track album by a guy called Wil Wagner from Melbourne, it's just him and his guitar (except some percussion and I think a harmonica on a few tracks) and the results are great. http://wilwagner.bandcamp.com/album/laika If you listen to any track on there listen to laika, it's a song about the first dog sent into space and it's a bit of a tear jerker.
