The Monarch, who's motive is literally "I deeply enjoy being a dick to Dr. Venture" is a more reasonable and believable villain.

I just caught up with the premiere and holy poo poo this was an amazing episode. I'm glad they went with an insane super science plotline and they used the time well. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season.

This is Rusty we are talking about. We know he was probably desperate or didn't remember last time considering his reaction. I really enjoyed the whole episode because of things like bringing a one off character who, what only appearance was in Tag Sale? And he worked perfectly. Billy having an arch nemesis was so cool. What amazes me is Billy and White are far more better scientists than Rusty. While ok, yeah Billy does more of the work it's funny to see that they are far more competent than Rusty. Rusty basically didn't do poo poo other than provide avoid a huge lawsuit from these students. I mean I'm pretty sure at least 10 or more died under him (the green students :smith: ).

It was also great to see Gary being competent on his own. I do admit I wish he was able to join OSI, but I'm enjoying the idea that Gary being a good guy without needing a faction.(ok technically he's with Sphinx.) The Monarch's chemistry was so great because of no matter how many times Gary is telling him that he's not working under him and every action makes Monarch believe he's still working for him was hilarious.

And while I still think Rusty is a horrible selfish person, it did warm my heart a little that he let Dean and Hank have their own rooms and was ok with them burning up the bed.

I do miss Brock and Shoreleave thought. :smith:

With Brock back in OSI, and probably a new assignment, he really doesn't have a reason to stick around in the compound but I"m just probably being a negative nancy about it.

Overall loved the premiere and I have watched it at least five times now.

I loved Dean burning his poo poo as much as I loved him hesitating with Mr Reachy.

Also I for some reason thought it was Mr Ricci, but it's a loving giraffe, Reachy. Duh.

Honestly, I'm kinda hoping that we don't get an explanation on Sargent Hatred's tits. I mean, it's probably due to some meds that he's taking but some of the show's best humor is when they leave things open ended. Like the Monarch's hatred for Dr. Venture (I still think he hates him for some unbelievably petty reason that happened in college that even he can't remember now but still hates him nonetheless).

Anyway, fantastic episode. Am I the only one that thinks Gary and Hank should team up and re launch SPNIX? And maybe it's because I'm a hopeless romantic but I'm kinda hoping that Thalia sticks around and her and Dean hook up for real. The poor kid deserves some happiness in his life. It's only fair. Hank got laid, after all.

And during the credits, I noticed that Nikki and Thalia had the same voice actress, which got me thinking. Did anyone think that Nikki sounded more nasally and mid western-ish than her original appearance? Probably to distinguish her voice from Thalia's but still.

Anyway, I don't really care that this season is going to be 8 episodes at this point. I'm just happy for this show to be back.

That was a good premiere and the '80s comic nerd in me is hoping that this:

We're also looking ahead to next season. Doc and I have big plans for season 6 and are champing at the bit to get started writing it. But first we have to write the script for our proposed long-form Venture Bros. special. We've got a pretty epic story planned, involving an epic number of cast members in an epic setting, so it's a pretty epic task ahead of us. The story will bridge seasons 5 & 6, so our mission is to tie up a lot of threads from season 5 (and 4, and 3…) and start a few new ones in the process. The sooner we write that, the sooner we'll write season 6--and the sooner we do all this writing, the sooner we'll be back on the air. My hope, as always, is to tighten that interminable gap between seasons--because I don't like waiting to show you new Venture Bros. any more than you like waiting to see new Venture Bros. So wish us luck…

This makes too much sense for it to not happen. Hank did try to join SPHINX, after all. Gary, Hank and Dermott would make one hell of a crime-fighting team... and 2 of the 3 would actually be pretty good at it.

And Doc once again proves that the only time he can be a competent scientist is when he's creating an abomination of some sort.

Doc's still completely incompetent, but it was incompetence and dumb luck that wound up getting the Gargantua 2 shield finished. When Billy's explaining the mutations he mentions the interns' new Einstein-like intelligence. THAT is how the shield got finished, and also how things spiraled out of control so quickly. All Doc did was not warn the interns about the insane radioactivity in the workplace, kill one of the interns, lie to his brother a couple times, roofie everyone, and take credit for everything in the end.

And that's why he'll always be my third-favorite character (behind Brock and Shore Leave). He's a colossal dick that can't do anything right, but it's him being so easy to hate that makes him so easy to like.

I think the pennies are going to become a running gag. Like if they get stuck on an island they'll look for food and notice that all their rations and canned food were replaced by cans of pennies.

Also I found it funny that St. Cloud's helmet had the cloud in place of the halo. Thereby making him look like a Cloud Saint.

This has to be Adult Swim's magnum opus or something. Just amazing writing, animation, characters, everything. The whole show is loving great and not only does it have you cackling but it keeps you hooked.

21 and 24 were my favorite duo though. :( Why did 24 have to die? That episode where they got some new guy they had to train to be a monarch henchmen was amazing. They didn't say it directly but their advice was pretty much "stay in the background, out of the way, and you won't run into any characters who are more important than you and will kill you."

I totally understand if they feel that the "24 is a ghost or whatever" ship has sailed, but I wouldn't mind if he came back one last time to have an argument with Gary over some minor petty pop culture crap.

I think I've actually forgotten most of season 4 except for the finale, probably because I watched all the episodes super drunk. I guess now's a good time to buy it.

It's a little sad that they killed off 24, since he's the first and only major character to actually die in the show. Hank and Dean were cloned, Molotov and Monstroso are apparently still alive, even HELPeR got rebuilt after being blown up. Dr. Manatee doesn't count.

That episode was spectacular! I loved every moment of it, and even more now that I've been able to see it in good quality. I completely missed Dean's 'obsession' during his fantasies at the beginning.

I love some of the callbacks to earlier, like Hatred cheering Dean during the last 'event' and telling him to 'snap his leg', reminding me of Brock's failed attempt at training Dean so that he could beat up Dermott. Also, the way 21 left the control room when poo poo hit the fan, that was totally the same movement Brock did back in the season 3 finale.
