So Jonas venture died under mysterious circumstances as did the Monarch's parents.

I bet it's going to be something stupid like finding the Only existing copy of the Real Unedited Director's Cut of Cool World or something. Or Swifty from the picture is just going to appear and pull a Mr.Glass from Unbreakable and had their parents killed just so they would become super scientists/super villans and both of them failed his expectations.

Working on a prototype 60's era HELPer body with sharp metal edges would easily explain the scratches. My arms got scratched up doing landscaping work when I was younger. Hell, I accidentally scratched up my arm the other day replacing a leaking flush valve on my toilet.

What? Monarch's parents are in the picture with Rusty and Jonas, that kinda proves the opposite of the brother theory. The picture just shows they knew each other when they were kids, apparently Monarch didn't like him even back then. I guess it could still be possible that Jonas gave the Monarch to those people to raise but this doesn't prove anything. To be honest, I can't picture Jonas just willingly giving away his kid though. If nothing else I can see Jonas Sr. looking at his offspring has another invention, I can't see him parting with one.

Has the Monarch not having memories from his childhood been talked about before?

And the t-shirt this week should totally be the Beaver Inspector t-shirt.

I've heard this theory before and it would certainly be believable. Jonas really was a self-aggrandizing rear end in a top hat and I wouldn't put it past him to "invent" a son just to get more points with the people. The thing that I'd say argues against this is we've seen quite a few cases where Jonas kind of saw Rusty as an ungrateful burden. Don't forget that he tried to "counsel" his son himself and when Rusty did actually try to open up Jonas just literally called him an ungrateful rear end. On a related note, someone once brought up how ironic it is that JJ is very much like his father, ironically having never met him. I'm sure that's done purposely.

Rusty is a miserable failure because his father couldn't be assed to be a father.

EDIT:
I also like to think that Jonas isn't dead and he's just hiding somewhere.

The show is called "Venture Bros" so it's clear what's going on here:

Rusty and the Monarch are brothers. Jonas is their father.

The woman with the same colored hair that Jonas is touching in the photo? That's his brother after a sex change. Since the brother obviously couldn't have children of their own after the operation yet desperately wanted them, Jonas made a big sacrifice, wiping both Rusty and the Monarch's minds before the gift.

Jonas isn't that "noble." Its more likely Jonas bumped ugly with the other man's wife making Dr. Venture and Monarch half brothers. Also the Monarch looks like a little exaggerated Dean Venture in that photo. Also I'm going to toss this out there that Jonas may have in fact killed the Monarch's parents resulting in the plane crash that probably scrambled the Monarch's memory. Maybe Jonas Venture wasn't that great a scientist and he stole all his inventions from others and the Monarch's father caught on to that and the boning of his wife. Jonas kills the Monarch's family to protect his own image that sounds more plausible than Jonas acting benevolently.

Maybe this is just a general TV thing, but I wish they had something like the T-Shirt club, but with the episodes. Basically, if you pre-order the bluray for the entire season, you get the episodes as they come out. That way I wouldn't have to worry about paying for cable when I move, but can still watch the episodes just about the time they come out, and get the disk after. I don't want to buy the episodes for $whatever on iTunes and then buy the bluray like I do for all the shows I watch. But if I could do something like $40 for (DRM free?) each episode, and then get the disk mailed instead of a shirt, that would be awesome.

There is something messed up there regarding the Monarch's past. Early on he said that he was raised by butterflies in Mexico (?) so maybe there is some event that scarred him.

....or his parents just boned Jonas all the time ignoring him and Rusty was a jerk so his happiest memories from childhood were of running around the yard chasing butterflies.

That is a good amount of failure.

God was that episode depressing! Poor Gary, it's like all his dreams were just swept-out from under him. I'm guessing we will soon see the context of those pictures when he's back in his Henchman costume and when he's apparently soul-searching in the forest.

I see that I was completely wrong about those stripes on Dean's arm, they were scars, not hair.

I know I'll never see it, but I would love some twist that reveals the monarch killed 24 and it results in Gary finding a loophole that allows him to arch the Monarch, and the Monarch ends up begging Rusty to help him deal with the very real threat of...THE VICEROY.
No need for a twist, the Monarch 'confessed' to killing 24 in the Shallow Gravy special, when he gloated that he was the one who broke up the band. You just need Gary to find that record, work up a rationalization (The Monarch is the one who planted the bomb after all) and boum!, you have your feud between 21 and the Monarch!

His plane crashed in New Jersey, minutes after take off and when he was done playing with butterflies he walked 5 minutes to a freeway.
