Near the end of 2003 Capcom released Gotcha Force, an arena shooter exclusively for the Nintendo Gamecube. Based around squads of toy-sized robots fighting, the game boasts of having 200 characters to collect and battle with. The large number of borg combinations lends the game a lot of replay value, and I'd like to show you as much of it as I can. The story so far: Chapter 1: After the destruction of his home world Mega Borg by the evil Death Force, the Gotcha Borg G-Red comes to Earth and teams up with a young boy named Kou in order to prevent the planet from falling into their hands. Chapter 2: After defeating the Flame Dragon, the Galactic Emperor personally taunts Kou and G-Red. Additionally, two mysterious kids have made an appearance. What does this mean for the newly formed Gotcha Force? Chapter 3: The recovery of G-Red's missing data and a new young commander serve to strengthen the Gotcha Force, but Sho and Orochi have found allies to their causes, making themselves even more of a threat. Chapter 4: After the Gotcha Force collects the Death Crystals and successfully assaults the Sky Fortress, the Death Force gears up for another invasion of Safari Town. Chapter 5: Although the Gotcha Force defeated the Cyber Death Dragon, the Galactic Emperor has managed to gather enough GF Energy to use his ultimate attack, the same power that destroyed Mega Borg. Can the Gotcha Force stop history from repeating itself on Earth? How this goes: I'll be taking tribe suggestions in thread, in order to show off what the people want to see. Most tribes are varied enough to allow for repeat selection, but I'll mix in some related borgs to keep things from getting stale if nessecary. Tribe List: Ninja - Fast attackers, work best at mid to close range Gun - Long distance specialists, weak in melee Knight - Close range powerhouses, often carry shields to block attacks Girl - Well balanced borgs, comfortable in melee or at range Machine - The most varied tribe, includes robots and transformers Dragon - Powerful but slow, with high damage projectiles and beams Musha (Includes Demon) - Sacrifices Knight borg defense for extra offensive ability Knuckle - Work best in melee range, often have special tricks to get there safely Wizard (Includes Nurse and Idol) - Have special abilities either to help allies or hinder opponents Hero (Includes Bug) - Small but varied tribe, mostly focused on changing states Wing (Includes Demon) - Capable of flight, giving them an advantage over ground bound borgs Angel - Combines Wing borg flight with Wizard borg abilities Tank (Includes Vehicle) - Ground based vehicles, focused on heavy damage at range Air - Aerial vehicles, focused on hit and run tactics Fortress - Floating armaments, heavily armed and armored Notes: While the game's narrative isn't particularly strong, I'd appreciate not posting story spoilers until they happen in the videos. Gotcha Borgs that haven't been seen yet are ok to talk about, just not commanders or their relationships. I remember seeing this game in rental stores and passing it. This game reminds me a lot of Custom Robo. But somewhat more interesting in its presentation. Shame that game case and title is so... bland/awful. I would have played it in the Gamecube's heyday.

This is seriously the best game for Gamecube that nobody played. The combat really works great, with big stuff feeling hefty, and floaty people really having to play to their speed advantages and it's got that Pokemon collecting all the mans thing going on. I loved that most of the units felt right and that so many have their own unique mechanics. Some examples for the impatient of unconvinced: Big drill robot looks like he's straight from Megaman and can literally tunnel underground to move in and attack from underneath. A huge spaceship thing that has tons of health, kill things in a few shots and generally can win at almost everything. A ninja who has big sweeping attacks because he's shooting goddamn fire from his dragon hands. There's tons of others like joining units like Power Rangers and it's amazing. There are so many fun options in this game that I still don't believe it didn't do better. Also can I ask you to get some multiplayer going, so you can mess around with the weird mechanics. Me and a friend got a kick from doing stuff like making giant slow bullets that can kill almost everything in a shot or making already big units take up the whole level.

Your game audio is being picked up by your recording device and duplicated. You'll want to wear headphones when recording. Also you have a lot of background noise. You might want to check out the tech support fort as the OP alone will probably give you considerably more info than I ever could on that sort of thing. Also if you haven't already, it's recommended to post in the LP sandcastle for feedback and to spot recording problems like that.

I've only watched the first video, but you can hear a fan or something very clearly in the beginning, and during the first battle about five minutes in, some of the grunts are doubled up, as well as the win quote. I still have no idea how nobody in either the sandcastle or support fort caught this, but whatever it was does seem to be gone from episode two onwards. Anyway, this is a pretty interesting game and the commentary's not bad now that it's recorded correctly, so I think I'll keep watching. I'm interested to see how you deal with some of the "tuff stuff" battles; there's one coming up I assume next episode which after a combined 8 playthroughs between us we've never managed to beat without cheesing. Although I only really stick to air and fortress borgs for the most parts, with a few exceptions, my friend can run circles around me with death borg lambda and a team of ninjas. If you can dodge well enough, death borg lambda can destroy pretty much any death force battle, and most of the early mission battles. Have you got a full encyclopedia? There're a couple of borgs we've never gotten round to grinding enough to collect enough crystals for. Ugh, who decided it was a good idea to have 5-part borgs that only appear in one battle? I'm putting in a vote for Air borgs, but especially Eagle Jet, because Eagle Jet is the best. EDIT: I noticed you call it "Power Burst". Seems a reasonable enough name, but it's worth pointing out that it never in the game or manual gets an actual name.

Oh man, I love this game. The funny thing is, the reason I picked it up to begin with was because of the last failed attempt to LP it here. I still replay it a few times every year or so. Kind of a shame it's so hard to get at a reasonable price now, I didn't pay much for what I think was a sealed copy a few years ago, complete with manual. Now used copies cost as much as a new game, or even more! I still wish Capcom would make a sequel or even just a remake for the 3DS or something. The fast-paced battles and frequent save opportunities would be great for handhelds.letmun posted:looks like a gundam fighting game Well Capcom made both this and the Gundam Vs. series, and it really shows. I'm pretty sure Gotcha Force even uses the same engine as the early Gundam Vs. games. Of course, those games are way more profitable (In Japan, anyway), which I suspect is one of the reasons we may never get a sequel.

Capcom apparently likes this game, seeing as they issued a reprint in Japan last year and are using characters from it in their new social games (in the first picture, look near the top above Phoenix Wright). It's too bad people in the US will probably never see those though.

Yeah, I pretty much always use her if I'm not soloing a stage throughout most of the game, though I hate when her AI screws up with the Quick Valkyrie the game gives her later on. In fact, I hate playing with Mana in general because the AI is just really bad about accidentally throwing support effects at the enemy and pelting with you friendly fire for a second. The second video has a pretty mild example of this during the Tetsuya and Met fight.

I'm very impressed you managed to find a way to beat that first Sho battle without spamming piercing attacks from behind cover. Fighting Ruby and Sapphire Knight are some of the most irritating enemies to fight, though the larger force sizes makes it much easier to beat them. Pop honey is irritating for a different reason; though if I'm not mistaken, planes and fortresses are practically immune, so they're pretty much helpless against those borgs. I'm also glad that my suspicion is true; insect borgs are generally worthless. Slow moving, very little in the way of auto-aim like the plane borgs, attacks that are generally high-risk high-reward at best... Alien insect's the best, and that's not saying much. Never used them more than once. Hero borgs, on the other hand, are pretty great, though each have a pretty big Achilles heel. Planet hero's basically useless when not in big mode, metal hero has no real ranged attacks outside of one that has a reaallly long setup... If you can work around them, though, they're all but broken.

I've never seen an Air Borg hit by Pop Honey's Mr. Reverse Bolt, so I don't know what happens. Fortresses and other Giant Borgs are immune to it and other transformations though. Planet Hero (and Star Hero to a lesser extent) are actually pretty good when normal sized, getting big just makes them better. Spot on about Metal Hero's problem. Overall, Hero Borgs are pretty awesome. There's a reason they get showdown battles all to themselves.
