The big problem with GG Mega Man is that the stages are 1:1 reproductions of the NES stages rather than being arrange versions like in the GB games, so you're often forced to make blind jumps across pits/spikes that you can't see due to the reduced viewing area of the GG screen.

You got me curious, and like all lazy people who are curious, I went to Wikipedia.

Wikipedia posted:

The Robot Masters featured at the beginning are Bright Man, Napalm Man, Star Man, and Stone Man. Dr. Cossack's fortress contains Wave Man's and Toad Man's levels and respective bosses. Wily's fortress is actually Quick Man's stage, though the player is taken to a condensed Dr. Wily stage after going through the first boss door instead.

Yep, they picked only 4 and 5 levels(And Quick Man's Stage from 2).

To be fair that's probably for the best graphically as the MM1 and 2 stages (Hell even some of the 3 stages) are very... empty looking compared to the detailed graphics in 4 and 5. So maybe that could be it, doesn't mean they picked a good lot of stages though, not at all.

Am I alone in thinking that Shinobi III was the weakest of the Shinobi games to hit the Genesis? Shadow Dancer and Revenge of Shinobi are still great fun, but Shinobi III? Ugh. Stiff, cheap, ugly, and worst of all, no dog.

Crystal Warriors is a SRPG that plays very similarly to Shining Force. Sonic 2 GG is that one game that every kid with a Game Gear complained about.

All the Sonic games currently available for the 3DS VC are Game Gear games, ie not "real" Sonic games and generally not fun in their own right, either. If you've never played a Sonic game before you definitely shouldn't start with any of those.

A stereoscopic 3D version of the original Mega Drive game should hit the eShop at some point this year, I suggest you wait for that one (or go buy Sonic 1/2/3/Knuckles from Wii VC or Steam or one of the other jillion rereleases).

Dear Deidre...
Is Trine 2 worth the £6.99 download cost?

I'm looking forward to these 3D SEGA Megadrive ports. I hope they all have extras like the CRT effect we were promised for Sonic 1. If they do well, hopefully we will get some SNES 3D classics.

For what it's worth I'd recommend giving the Game Gear games a go because they have lots of weird/neat experimental ideas that were never implemented in the Genesis games - but for that reason I recommend giving the games a try only in the context of having played the Genesis games first, as PaletteSwappedNinja suggested. And, ideally, playing the games under circumstances where you're not paying £/$5 for them each (e.g. Sonic Mega Collection + or Gems Collection).

Both Ecco and Altered Beast already the CRT mode, and I can only assume Shinobi III and any future Megadrive games will have them too.

Apparently the S1 3D has some minor sound guffs among some other minor problems, but its really just Sonic 1 with a Spindash, and there are better versions out there.

If you desperately want a rerelease you should try the iOS/Android port as its actually got some new stuff.

3D Classics Xevious is great because it's a lot easier to tell the ground targets from the air targets... Too bad the game is hard as loving hell when you're doing well (loving variable difficulty :argh:).

But, 3D Classics TwinBee is much much better IMO. :colbert:

I checked Nintendo's site for new listings, and it looks like Pilotwings is scheduled for July 4th in NA, but nothing mentioned for this week.

(That doesn't mean there's nothing new this week; these listings don't consistently show up in advance)

This is the general link you can check to spot new VC titles. Listings also sometimes show up in advance in the eShop, or get trailers on Youtube. But none of these ways of checking are consistently reliable.

NOA has a habit of listing things with specific release dates that turn out to be wrong, which is why I rarely bring them up in this thread, but since you brought it up... games listed include Pilotwings and Vegas Stakes for Wii U VC, and Spelunker, Crystal Warriors and Sonic Labyrinth for the 3DS VC.

EDIT: oh, and you may or may not be getting Kokuga (the G.rev/Ikaruga guy overhead shooter) on the 3DS eShop in NA this week. (Tentative PAL date is July 11, off the top of my head.)

It is a gambling sim, but you get to go to different themed casinos (some of which are modelled after IRL casinos in Vegas) in your quest to max out your money counter at $9,999,999. You can have random events happen to you that can either help or hinder you like someone asking you to invest money in something (which can either give you more money, or end up being a scam and costing you big time). I haven't played it in years, but I remember it being pretty fun and having a good amount of personality (at least more than most casino/gambling sims).
