Last year was the first fully paved year. Second place this year ran a 9:03. Loeb was extremely fast regardless of the circumstances.

Yes. Mostly because I don't think either one of them finished a sentence the entire time instead of just abruptly switching mid-stream to half of another sentence, which made things yes carl, it sure looks like he's going to be setting a second driver is preparing to start!

The coverage was terrible, I watched a few hours of it. Not that bad considering it was a webcast and not some professional work. Also Redbull is a loving nasty drink but I'm forever thankful for the things they've done for motorsport. I don't think there's ever been a sponsor that gets it quite like they do. Maybe Marlboro.

Agreed, I can't stand redbull or monster but they sponsor people so... cool! Monster stickers on a non-pro vehicle are also a great warning flag that the driver/owner is a total retard.

I love that they sponsor all kinds of cool poo poo, but I hate that they're apparently such arrogant stuck-up cunts, the whole lot of them. They showcased their F1 car at the annual Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix last year, which was a blast. But they also demanded 100% exclusive access to the best stands, not even our own security guards (nor even the VIP security guards, who guard HRH Prince Joachim etc.) were allowed to enter the closed-off private compound they set up. They didn't mingle with anyone, they didn't acknowledge anyone else's work but their own and they had a stand where they sold $50 Red Bull basketball caps. All they did was bitch about the track, bitch about if anything wasn't going fast enough for them. They basically tried to run the show as if they were the main event, when in fact that had less than 30 minutes of actual action for the whole weekend.

So I took my family to the local(ish) karting track. Bad things happened. If you see gloves, that's me. Being a regular to the track, I lapped the entire field. Which was fun. Everyone talked a big game, but it was interesting to see everyone's skill levels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0mEGiethFs

You try to be nice and pass way off line, but oh hey they're driving on the outside for no reason. It's funny in hindsight, but it's dodgy as poo poo unless if you have a poo poo load of momentum.

My dad almost got in a fistfight because of that when I was younger. They somehow decided to let a five or six year old girl drive solo on a track that had two seater karts and she was all over the place. I was about fourteen, and quite a few people were held up behind her. Well, after five or six laps she went really, really wide, so I cut the apex to pass. Bad move. She cut all the way across the track to crash off my nose and spin pretty violently. Cue a tear waterfall, and her father hunting me down after the race. My dad was about to break his face until a few other people stepped in to back up my side of things and their family was thrown off the property.

Reminds me of a go-kart situation in my early teens where I head-on collided with another racer and forgot how it happened, giving one girl the finger because I thought it was her fault. Realized it was somebody else after the race and felt like poo poo, never did have the chance to apologize.

Ziploc posted:So I took my family to the local(ish) karting track. Karting can be a crap shoot. When you're new at it, showing up and racing with just anyone is pretty easy. You're off line, they're off line. Everyone is spinning. No big deal. After a while it starts to look like this and you stop having fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFa7fEiUUBw So, you end up showing up at league nights and realizing your slow as hell. Then a couple of months later, you look back at your videos and realize, drat, I was really slow. Keep at it, you'll get better. Edit: The poor girl in kart 5 was pretty much scared senseless and had no clue was going on around her. She sadly was not the slowest driver I've ever seen. One time there was a girl who would release the brake pedal, the kart would idle forward, she'd scream and hit the brakes and come to a complete stop. She was lapping above the 2 minute mark. I miss the old place in north Jersey I used to go to, Speedway 17, near Paramus. It was like a 1/10 mile smooth concrete oval, indoor, and the karts were quarter midgets running on propane. They'd put baby powder down on the turns so it was pretty much a clean dirt track. That place was so badass. Sadly they changed it to a more traditional kart road race setup, and it's not nearly as cool as it was.

I hope that wasn't directed at me. Those were motorcycle gloves I use when I go karting with racing buddies. We do a few 300 lap enduros a year for kicks. Gloves are nice. I had a blast, my family had a blast. It was all hilarious fun. The nice thing about such slow family members was that I was passing ALL THE TIME. I nearly lapped the field twice. I highly recommend karting with family. It's hilarious.
