I haven't given the new ABR a deep listen yet but from what I've heard It's got good aspects from all of their library. There's definitely a lot of progression from the composition direction they started on leveler as well as some tracks that could fit on messengers or constellations. Pretty well rounded for them. I like.

What do you guys think of the new Stray from the Path track? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxnjdXOxLCU I'm not... really sure how I feel about it? Like, it sounds like they're trying to be RATM way too hard. It's a cool and fun sound, but I much more preferred when they were trying to be Converge instead. The track on its own is fun and all but if the whole album is like this, I'll be a little upset.

I'm seven tracks in and I feel like I'm the only who's not digging it all that much. Maybe it's because I never listened to Misery Signals before so I wasn't all that excited going in. It's weird, because it reminds me a lot of Shai Hulud's newest album, which is my second-favorite album of the year right now.

This is probably going to sound cliche as gently caress, but the Misery Signals has really "grown up" on this album. Its a really good piece of music, extremely well rounded and paced. I also think this will be the album that alienates a few fans that decide they don't want to change with the band. Which is totally fine, I just think that if Misery Signals goes on to make a few albums after this one that most people will separate their discography in a sort of "before and after Absent Light" kind of way, if that makes any sense.

The new Misery Signals is loving fantastic. It's different enough that it's clear they weren't just sitting around but actually really trying to push their sound, but at the same time it sounds very familiar and very much like the Misery Signals I know and love. I got to catch a couple of the songs live for the first time last week on the second day of their tour. I was right up front and center, probably the best spot in the entire room. It was an incredible experience to say the least, the new songs absolutely tore it up live. Edit: For some reason this made me want to go listen to 7 Angels 7 Plagues. I had never noticed this before: in the lyrics to Someday, there's the line: "Tormented by my every undying devotion to you," which is also in Nothing off Controller. I'm guessing it's some sort of homage? That's pretty awesome reversefungi fucked around with this message at 12:44 on Jul 22, 2013 |
