I'm glad that the new Teen Titans isn't as polarizing here as it was when it first started. I like what I've seen, it's a lot of fun.

Does anybody else think that we're on the verge of seeing an openly gay main character on kid's TV? The public is ready for it and the the animators clearly want to do it. It's only the studio's collective fear of conservative backlash that's stopping things up. Once one of the big three (Disney, CN, Nick) sees that having the title of "first GLBT friendly kid's network" will make them look damned good in the long run they'll jump at the chance.
Superman: The Animated Series actually managed to have a recurring gay character in Maggie Sawyer, one of two main cops that Superman usually dealt with. They didn't regularly acknowledge her sexuality, but you can see her girlfriend sitting at her bedside and consoling her at a funeral in the amazing "Apocolips Now!" It's unfortunate that they probably only got away with it because S&P assumed she was just her sister or something.;

There's a bunch of basement-dwelling trolls who hate it that post on IMDB because it replaced Young Justice and/or it's not identical to the old show.

TTG is a lot of silly fun, and the episode length is just long enough to not wear out it's welcome.

Also because the first few episodes were between not very good and outright terrible. It wasn't till ghost boy, which is the 9th short in the series that I started to say "oh this show might be okay".

I was fully prepared to be one of those spergs but the show won me over by actually being funny. Chicken dance had me hysterical.

I definitely was turned off watching the first short. Actually, I watched Girl's Night Out and I basically skipped over the part with the boys since they were pretty terrible. There's definitely some redeeming features, but sometimes the humor flounders when it tries to be straight wacky.

It's had Cyborg explain the plot of the TV show Webster so the show is not afraid of weird references to things the target audience has no idea about. I really expected it to be absolutely terrible but it's really won me over as being an enjoyable and fun use of the property and if the comic it shares a name with was even a quarter this good it'd be the best that comic has ever been.

I've been watching old Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff Girls episodes on Boomerang with my kids, and there's this one PPG episode I never saw before that's a parody of the old Jay Ward cartoons like Rocky & Bullwinkle. It's pretty hilarious how spot-on it is, but I wonder how many kids got the reference 15 years ago let alone how many would today.

Given that Rocky and Bullwinkle was airing on the kids tv channel in Canada in the 90's I'd say it's plausible that more than a few would have got it.

I'd say the episode of PPG that kids are least likely to get is the one that's all Beatles references.

I did, thought it was alright, but I'm not really sold on Action Alfred the Combat Butler. I mean, I like Alfred, and I like that he has a military background, but turning him into Jason Statham is weird. Also, minor design quibble, but Alfred should always have a mustache in my mind and changing that is just one thing that bothers the gently caress outta me.

I didn't have near as much of a problem with the animation style as a lot of other people though. Thought it looked a hell of a lot better than GL: TAS if nothing else.

I like that Alfred is basically training Batman this time around. For me, I don't mind him getting into the action or even the no mustache thing (did he have one in the Nolan films?).

The next episode with Magpie looks really fun (Grey DeLisle sounds like she's having a ton of fun voicing her).

Speaking of Greg, her Wikipedia photo is hilarious. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_DeLisle

Well, this was inevitable...and by "inevitable", of course, I mean completely evitable. The Marvel crossover looks hilarious, though, and knowing the usual output of the show (and all the sci-fi pastiches they've done in the past) I'm expecting this will be just as interesting.

quote:

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away -- in summer -- Phineas and Ferb are living happily on Tatooine, just one moisture farm over from Luke Skywalker. They love simply hanging out and creating new adventures under the twin suns, however, they find themselves thrust into a global rebellion when the plans for blowing up the Death Star accidentally fall into their hands.

Now that fate has suddenly pulled them into the fight for freedom, they must go in search of a pilot who can take them to the Rebels so they can hand over the plans. Complicating matters, Candace -- the boys' sister -- has a Stormtrooper-like intent on "busting rebels" who chase Phineas and Ferb across the galaxy in hopes of retrieving the Death Star plans.

Meanwhile, back on the Death Star, Dr. Darth Enshmirtz, a low level Darth, has created a Force-powered "Sith-inator" that he plans to use against the Rebel Alliance. Agent P, working undercover for the Rebellion, is dispatched to stop him, but quickly gets trapped in carbonite. Then, things take a startling turn when Ferb is accidentally hit by the full blast of Dr. Darth Enschmirtz's "inator" and becomes...an evil Sith.

What bothers me about Kung Fu Alfred is that he has the exact same silhouette as Bruce. One of the most important thing you learn about character design is to mix up your silhouttes and shapes, and to have two out of what, three main characters look identical in dim light seems like a major faux pas to me.

I was really surprised by the quality of the animation, though. Those smoke effects were fantastic.

For the love of God please make Disney stop snapping up all of the franchises. I'll probably watch both the Marvel crossover and the Star Wars crossover because I'm an idiot, but at some point they're going to make the crossover world from Patton Oswalt's filibuster from Parks and Recreation come true, and the only people who will like it are tropers and Wiki editors.

Well that and the fact that it's easy money for them.

Honestly, Phineas and Ferb/Star Wars is more debasing to P&F than it is to Star Wars. Also we'll have so many Star Wars fans saying that George Lucas never would have made this happen, along with other stupid bits of nerdrage.

It looks like it's going to be a "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" style thing where Phineas and Ferb's story is taking place in the background of A New Hope, which is actually a clever way to do it, in my opinion:

Also, that trailer is sharp as hell! Which network is picking it up? Think they'll rerun the original series to promote it? Probably not, seeing as how old it is but it would be cool if someone did that.

The story is a lot better than the first episode and the voice acting was good too.
