Have an awesome sprint car heat race. I went to Williams Grove for the first time this year back in May, my buddy and I just made our plans to go back in October for the National Open. One of the biggest dirt track races in the world. e- This was shot the night I was there earlier this year. e2- Totally unrelated, but here's a Late Model "run what ya brung" race. Basically no rules, the big panels help the cars stay stable while running wide open sideways. last edit, I promise- Dirt track racing at its finest Seizure Meat fucked around with this message at 23:34 on Jul 18, 2013 |

I started cracking up when that one cylinder went off and all three of them decided they didn't really need to be that close after all.

Meh. Big lumps of American steel, of course there's room for massive motors. A better sleeper would be the Swedish safety tank that your grandmother/elderly aunt/school teacher drives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymi0xkErqWI Of course non-Swedish cars can apply too. But trucks? Meh.

I agree, sure its a sleeper if you're looking at a picture of it. If you are seeing it in person the gently caress off loud exhaust kind of betrays its performance potential.

True, if it were mine I'd put a quieter exhaust on it. Actually that's not true, if it were mine I'd be dead in a ditch somewhere. I have no illusions regarding my ability to handle a car with 1200 hp and 1970's steering. Those sleeper trucks are awesome, but I think the Volvo is my favorite.

I guess they kind of figured "Hey, since it's got electric steering, let's be German and design it weird because we can!" Either it's got a weird offset gear, or it's drive-by-wire and there isn't any physical steering linkage at all.

Carteret posted:I guess they kind of figured "Hey, since it's got electric steering, let's be German and design it weird because we can!" I think it's because of the "active steering" that some BMWs have, with variable assist power steering. More or less CVT gearbox in the steering column, in effect. You can be 100% sure there's a mechanical linkage in there. We don't even dare do brake-by-wire yet, steer-by-wire is even more complicated than that.

Actually, the Infiniti Q50 will be a 90% Steer by wire system. A clutch will keep the mechanical link disengaged until there is a failure in the electronic units. Some simple overtaking, DTM style https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4bOQsdH4Ic and a Russian dash cam with Kobayashi doing what he does best. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kHqsIRA_sk

So NASCAR let the Truck series run at Eldora last night, the first time NASCAR has been at a dirt track in 43 years. The whole night was amazing, but this clip was the best part. Norm Benning is terrible. He's unsponsored, looks like Shrek, and finishes last a whole bunch. He wasn't a guaranteed starter in the feature race, and he did poo poo in his heat race. So he had to make it in through the last chance qualifier. For those that don't know, big dirt races run a qualifying segment for times, which then sets up the heat races. A certain number from each heat advance to the feature, while the rest race their way in through the LCQ. This is what the video shows, Norm Benning, trying to make the biggest race of his life, in an unsponsored truck, hanging on to the last transfer spot for dear life. He's in the red #57. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLKfkmKjo00
